They did not leave the chamber right away.
Fenric listened again.
Carefully.
No movement.
No sound from above.
"This should be the edge of the next floor," he said.
Liana looked around and pointed to a cracked stone ramp at the far side.
"Downward," she said. "Different air."
They approached slowly.
The ramp led into a wider drop.
Not a sharp fall, but a clear change.
As they stepped down, the air changed.
Warmer.
More humid.
Fenric felt it immediately.
"Flying types," he said. "I can feel movement in the air."
Liana nodded. "Ceiling is higher too."
The new area opened into a broad cavern.
The ceiling was tall.
Jagged stone hung down in sharp points.
Small holes dotted the walls and ceiling.
Fenric raised his bow but did not aim yet.
Then it happened.
A fluttering sound.
Soft at first.
Then louder.
Shapes dropped from above.
Dungeon bats.
Large wings.
Thin bodies.
Sharp screeching cries.
"Above us," Fenric said.
"I'll cover close range," Liana replied.
