Chapter 75 - Chapter 71: Interrogation

Last Chapter Recap: "I have no idea what you're talking about, woman!" Adam shouted, his frustration growing. "Why don't you test them for nanomachines or something?!"

NOW

"We already know King Black was involved in some shady research..." Heidi said, her gaze piercing. "It would not be strange for his prized son to inherit some of it."

"Did you arrest me because of such stupid hunch?" Adam said, his voice filled with disbelief. "Counterintelligence already did triple check on my background and found nothing!"

Hah.

"So, you insist on playing dumb..." Heidi said, her tone dripping with contempt.

Another hit from the gravity hammer shatters my body, yet…!

"I'll treat myself, Adam," Heidi said, her voice icy. "No matter what you say, it won't convince me of your innocence. We already know you're an enemy agent."

"Ha ha," Adam laughed inwardly. "Agent, huh?"

"Fuck! You have no evidence!" Adam said, his voice trembling fakely. "I know you and the captain have something! If you had anything, you'd have killed me already!"

"Captain never wastes useful resources, Adam," Heidi said, her voice cold and calculating. "As for evidence, we have plenty. We knew you were an enemy agent from the very beginning."

Hahahahahahahaha!

I laugh internally at this foolish woman. Who does she think I am?!

She didn't find the secret room… no, she still holds some trust in my slaves. That's why they were made occupied with busy tasks, instead of being detained.

In other words, this interrogation is her last-ditch effort with little chance of success…!!

"So, you've already decided I'm the enemy, and now you want to extract a confession from me?" Adam said, his voice shaking with frustration. "Fuck! I thought the Alliance was... No, the Space Titans Fleet was better than this!!"

"I see," Heidi said, her tone unbothered, while taking a syringe from her pocket. "I guess I should've done so from the very start."

I feel a small pang on the back of my neck, and then, a familiar feeling spreads all around my body.

Truth serum. The ultimate interrogation tool, the agent that paralyzes parts of your brain seeps into my head, preventing my mind from even contemplating untruth…!

"Just so you know, you have no right to remain silent," Heidi said, smiling coldly. "I'll take silence as a yes answer."

Of course, the usual tactics of remaining silent won't work. However, I have no intention of staying silent!!

"That won't be necessary," Adam said, smirking with defiance. "I'll talk."

"Confident, aren't we?" Heidi said, her voice sharp. "Then state your allegiance and goal on board the Goliath."

"Yes, my allegiance is to the Neo-Terran Society," Adam said, his voice steady. "My goal is to take over this ship and enact revenge on Captain Selana for Platinum planet."

My answer is half lie and truth, Adam thought. The truth about revenge, but allegiance with the Neo-Terran? No way. I'm on my own, but to the Commander.

"You..." Heidi asked, her voice cold with disbelief. "Do you have no honour?!"

"Honor is unnecessary," Adam said, his tone mocking. "I value efficiency."

"You bastard..." Heidi spat, her eyes narrowing. "Did you pass any classified information to Neo-Terran? Were you behind the carrier downed?"

"No, since my defection, I had only two brief contacts with the Society, with someone," Adam said, his voice steady. "The carrier found us on their own."

"Impossible..." Heidi said, her voice sharp. "No truth serum is absolute..."

"I can see my answer confused the Commander quite a lot," Adam thought, smirking. "As expected, she has no idea that she's being deceived by my words. Truth serum works on ordinary people, but me? No way. I have System Ava. I'll take this chance to..."

"In that case," Heidi asked after a moment of thought, "how did you compromise Lt. Chand?"

"I didn't," Adam said, his tone cool. "Lt. Chand was a wildcard and frankly, more trouble than help."

"Of course, it's a lie, " Adam thought, a wry smirk tugging at his lips.

"I don't believe you," Heidi said, her voice filled with disbelief. "There's no way a good soldier like Lt. Chand would start a mutiny on his own!"

"I already gave my honest opinion to the princess on the matter," Adam said, his voice calm but firm. "I had nothing to do with the mutiny, except what I did on the captain's orders."

Even more confusion appears on the commander's face, Adam thought. I can tell her theory is falling apart... No, she might even question the efficiency of the truth serum at this point.

"Explain your operation to me then," Heidi asked after a moment of thought, her voice sharp.

"That's not a yes or no question, Commander," Adam said with a grin. "I refuse."

"You bastard...!" Heidi said, her voice seething with rage.

"Relax, Commander," Adam said with a sly smile. "I was joking. Since I already admitted to being a spy, I'll tell you everything."

Commander relaxes somewhat, but her hand instinctively wanders towards her gun on her hip… what a hip!! Mmm… if it wasn't for the gravity prison, I'd feel very insecure.

"My goal from the start," Adam said, grinning, "was to enact revenge on Captain and the crew by turning you all in to my slaves."
