Chapter 502: Kobayashi's Dragon Maid!
"Miss Kobayashi?!"
Sevien turned his head, and his eyes widened. The person who had stepped in front of him was really Kobayashi.
But that made no sense.
Kobayashi almost never joined their training or battles. And even within the Dragon Hunter Pirates, not everyone was a walking disaster in combat.
Kobayashi, Nojiko, Mario, and the others were the clearest examples. Their roles were more about function than pure fighting strength.
Nojiko was a navigator, handling communication with the Eternal Ship and assisting with operations onboard. She was also Gaino's direct contact.
Mario was basically the ship's helmsman, keeping the Eternal Ship moving smoothly through hellish waters.
But Kobayashi…
From Sevien's perspective, she was the kind of gentle girl everyone treated like an adorable mascot.
A soothing presence. A safe presence.
If anything, the only mascot he had seen recently was Kobayashi herself.
And now there was an even smaller one beside her, a cute little girl Sevian had never met before.
"Go rest for a while."
Kobayashi's calm voice cut through the chaos. She stepped toward Sevian, holding a small vial.
"This is Life Essence the captain asked me to bring you. Take it and recover properly."
"Don't let this fight leave your body with nightmares later."
Sevian's breath hitched.
Before he could say a word, a cold shout snapped across the deck.
"Damn it, who are you?"
Cynthia's scarlet arrow, which had been locked on Sevien a moment ago, swung toward Kobayashi instead.
"You people know nothing about this place, yet you dare act so arrogant."
"Die!"
Whoosh.
The charged crimson arrow tore through the air and reached Kobayashi in an instant.
"You must not touch Kobayashi!"
The tiny girl next to her raised one hand and caught the arrow barehanded.
Then she squeezed lightly.
Crack.
The scarlet arrow shattered into dust.
"What?!"
Cynthia stood there, stunned.
That arrow was not casual. She had been charging power into it while pressuring Sevian. It was meant to end the fight in one strike.
Yet a child had crushed it like a twig.
"Kobayashi, are they enemies?" the little girl asked, voice soft and childish.
"People who hurt Kobayashi are bad people."
"Can I fight them?"
Her words were innocent, but the pressure behind them was not.
This girl was Kobayashi's companion and in a way her dragon maid, Kanna.
The moment Sevian heard that name, his heart jolted again.
He understood now.
After Ryuunosuke recruited every member of the four main Divisions, the system had revealed another group.
A special operations team.
Kobayashi and her Dragon Maid Team had been unlocked.
And as the first one who followed Kobayashi, Connor was naturally the first person Ryuunosuke recruited.
"Don't kill them," Kobayashi said gently.
"The captain said they still have uses."
"And once everyone finishes integrating their new power, they will test it on these people."
"So a small lesson is enough."
She held the Life Essence out to Sevian.
"Come on. Drink this."
Sevian was completely dazed.
A girl this kind, this quiet, yet standing beside something that could crush Cynthia's attack without blinking.
And Kobayashi had never shown even a trace of this side of her on the ship.
"…Yeah."
His hand trembled as he accepted the vial. He drank it in one gulp.
Warmth surged through his body, sealing wounds and pulling him back from the edge.
But his eyes never left Kobayashi.
Kobayashi did not notice his stare. She was already watching Kanna.
Kobayashi knew Kanna was terrifyingly strong.
But she had still never seen Kanna truly fight.
And the enemies in front of them did not look weak at all.
"No matter who you are, or why you're interfering," Cynthia snarled.
"You're all dying here."
She did not care that Kanna looked like a harmless child. Anyone who blocked the Guardians deserved death.
Besides, no child on the Dragon Hunter Pirates was really a child.
A person who could catch her Scarlet Arrow of Destruction with bare hands was proof enough.
A halberd formed in Cynthia's grip, and she charged Kanna directly.
"Roar!"
Kanna lifted her head and opened her mouth.
A true dragon's roar detonated across the deck.
The shockwave swallowed Cynthia's charge whole.
By the time everyone could even blink, Cynthia had already crashed onto the ship, her body slammed into the boards, blood spraying across the air.
Every inch of her looked broken.
Yet somehow, the blast had perfectly avoided her vital points.
Not a single fatal wound.
That kind of control was terrifying.
Even if the Guardians tried, they could not cripple someone without killing them at this level of precision.
Who was this little girl?
Was she Captain Ryuunosuke's child?
"Kobayashi, one down," Kanna said brightly as if she had just finished a chore.
"I'll handle the rest."
She kicked Cynthia aside like a rag doll.
Then halos of light appeared around her small body, forming circles in the air.
This was the unique aura of the dragon race, the protection of the divine dragon.
Each halo was a blessing from the dragons.
And Kanna had more than ten layers.
That level of protection would make even dragons cry in envy.
It was said the dragons could only give so much power to one of their own.
Clearly, Kanna had caused a lot of trouble back home to earn this many blessings.
Boom.
In the next moment, Kanna transformed.
Her tiny figure exploded into her true form, an enormous dragon rising into the sky, wings blotting out the light.
Cynthia, who had just been trying to flee, was instantly blocked by that overwhelming silhouette.
"Impossible…" Cynthia whispered, frozen in terror.
"How can a creature like this exist in this world?"
"Besides the Heavenly King, there's actually another…"
She could not finish.
The aura alone crushed her courage. The form itself felt like something that should not belong here.
Smack.
Kanna ignored her disbelief and swatted her away with one casual claw.
"Kobayashi said none of you can leave."
"So stay here."
"And lose your mobility too."
Her milky childish voice rang out again, completely mismatched with the dragon body that could tear islands apart.
Kanna struck Cynthia because she had already sensed it.
Cynthia wanted to run.
Truthfully, the moment Kanna caught that first arrow, Cynthia had already considered fleeing.
She only hesitated because she clung to one last hope.
Maybe the others could still overwhelm this child.
But after seeing Cynthia's fate, despair poured over her like cold seawater.
This was a level of power they could not withstand.
Worse, they could not activate their awakened state on their own right now.
So escape was the only option.
And Kanna had crushed it immediately.
"Sika, hurry and undo it!" Cynthia shouted desperately, trying to force herself upright.
"Only you and Kiracol can lift the restrictions. If this continues we…"
Bang.
A body slammed down beside her.
It was Sika, his form already undergoing a strange transformation.
Kanna massive tail lifted, shaking off blood in a lazy arc.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Kanna said softly, almost pouting.
"But it sounds like bad stuff."
"So are you still not giving up?"
Her childish tone carried a dragon's certainty.
