Chapter 503: The Might of the Dragon Maid!

"Puff!"

Kanna raised a hand and calmly caught a figure that had been blasted backward through the air.

It was Kaido.

Even Kaido was insanely strong, but once Kiracol went all out, Kaido still lost the clash.

"Eh?" Kanna blinked, tilting her head. "This is Mr. Kaido, right?"

"Kobayashi said you are not an enemy."

As she spoke, Kanna tossed Kaido down onto the deck as if she were setting a heavy bag aside.

Then she vanished from the spot.

Because she had sensed an even stronger presence closing in.

That power absolutely could not be allowed near Kobayashi. If it got close, Kanna feared she might not be able to protect Kobayashi in the end.

Watching Kanna shoot away, Kobayashi's brows tightened with worry.

Kanna was not weak, but their opponents were monsters too.

"Sevian, Sika and Jescano over there have already lost their fighting ability," Kanna's voice rang out from above, sharp and commanding despite the childish tone.

This was Kanna, Kanna to Kobayashi, speaking like a little tyrant.

"The rest of Cynthia is in your hands."

"Protect Kobayashi."

"Got it!" Sevien shouted. "I will protect Miss Kobayashi no matter what!"

He charged straight at Cynthia.

Now that Sika and the others had been handled by Kanna, the rest was simple.

Even though they were all Guardians, Sevian was a front line fighter while Cynthia was support. Their gap in real combat power was not huge.

On top of that, Sevian had been training on the Dragon Hunter Pirates' ship for so long that his instincts and toughness had skyrocketed.

"Cynthia, I am warning you," Sevian said coldly as he planted himself on the deck.

"Whether you are thinking of escaping or trying something else, do not move."

"If you ignore me, even once, I will kill you."

He sat down right there, senses locked on Cynthia like iron chains.

Even an accidental twitch would get her intercepted.

Kobayashi watched him for a moment, then smiled faintly.

"Actually, the captain and everyone else were awake the whole time."

"And it is not that they lost their fighting ability."

"But after seeing how brave you were, they decided to let you try."

"It seems you really are trustworthy."

Sevian's face froze.

So that chance was given to him on purpose.

If he stayed, then he truly stayed.

If he had chosen to run back to the Guardians earlier, then now

He did not even want to think about it.

Sure, he still had grudges and frustration, but this meant he was qualified to pass the Dragon Hunter Pirates' test.

The moment that sank in, Sevian convinced himself completely.

Everything else stopped mattering.

Bang.

He collapsed face first.

Truthfully, he had already been hanging on by a thread. The Life Essence could heal, but that storm of attacks had still wrecked his body.

He just could not afford to show weakness earlier. If he had, Cynthia would have struck Kobayashi immediately.

"Rest," Kobayashi said, kneeling beside him.

Then she glanced over at Cynthia.

"By the way, that one over there is Cynthia, right?"

"Stay still, or you get beaten again."

"I have more than one dragon maid behind me."

After saying that, Kobayashi turned to the side.

Tohru stepped out.

"Kobayashi, try my grilled dragon tail," Tohru said eagerly, holding out a plate. "It is delicious."

Kobayashi stared at her for half a heartbeat, then jumped up.

Bang!

She punched Tohru on the head.

"I told you not to do weird things like that!"

"Alright. Now watch that girl."

"Oof… got it," Tohru mumbled, slumping down on the deck like a scolded puppy.

She did not even look at Cynthia.

But Cynthia did not dare move anyway.

The aura coming off Tohru was terrifying. Not just raw strength, but something deeper.

Cynthia could not sense open killing intent from Tohru at all, yet the pressure felt like the calm of someone who had walked through endless slaughter.

Cynthia was certain of it.

If she tried anything now, she would not face only death.

This dragon maid who casually grilled her own tail meat definitely had a hundred other ways to make someone wish they were dead first.

"Please do not hit me," Cynthia whimpered, kneeling beside her fawn. "I will be very good."

Tohru looked at her, baffled.

She had not even done anything. Why was this woman trembling like that?

Inside the cabin, Najenda spoke quietly to Ryuunosuke.

"Captain, it is basically confirmed now that Sevian was not left behind on purpose."

"So my earlier guess was wrong?"

That was right. Everyone sitting down to absorb energy had been a deliberate illusion.

It was a trap to see Sevien's real intent.

If he had any hidden motives, he would never have let such a perfect chance slip by.

But Sevian's performance had been solid.

His loyalty to the Dragon Hunter Pirates was that extreme.

Honestly, even some pirate crews could not count on that kind of devotion from their own members.

Traitors existed everywhere. Blackbeard was proof.

"Mm."

Ryuunosuke nodded without much emotion.

There really was nothing to criticize.

Sevian had done well.

"Still," Ryuunosuke continued, "he stays a sandbag. He does not officially join."

"Also, have Machi check on Kaido. He looks seriously hurt."

"Understood, Captain."

Najenda bowed and left.

Even though she was puzzled, Ryuunosuke clearly had no intention of taking Sevian in as a formal crewmate.

Sevian had passed the test perfectly.

But compared to that, Ryuunosuke's judgment mattered more.

After Najenda left, Ryuunosuke lifted a hand.

Gaino appeared in his palm.

"Captain, what is it?"

"Replay everything that just happened on the ship," Ryuunosuke said. "From the start."

The Eternal Ship had a recording function. Every detail of that battle was stored.

"Understood, Captain."

Gaino nodded, and a screen spread open.

The footage rolled.

After Gaino's soul entered Jin's body, his own spirit could still roam freely across the ship. He did not need to move around using Jin's body at all.

Watching that scene, Ryuunosuke's eyes narrowed.

A flicker of doubt crossed his face.

Kanna returned fast.

Even though she was injured, she still dragged Kiracol back in her claws.

At this point, Kiracol could barely be called human anymore.

The mangled, enormous arm told one clear story.

Kanna had not fought alone.
