Chapter 589 - Chapter 589: Sabo’s Thoughts, the Purpose of Creating a God!

Chapter 589: Sabo's Thoughts, the Purpose of Creating a God!

At this moment, Ryuunosuke had no idea their actions had shaken Devil's Island so badly that even its most vicious pirates were considering retreat.

And even if he did know, he would not care.

Those people were no longer within his sight, and once you fell out of his sight, you fell out of his mind.

Meanwhile, out on the Grand Line.

"Boss."

"Big Brother and the others are already engaged in biological warfare with Vegapunk's research team at Marine Headquarters."

"Are we really not going to participate?"

Kerla tried to stop him, but Sabo walked straight past her and approached Dragon anyway.

He spoke calmly, but his meaning was direct.

"And Ace's Whitebeard Pirates are heading there too."

"I… want to go take a look as well."

Dragon looked at him for a long moment, then let out a low breath.

"Sabo, it's not that I don't want you to go."

"But with things like this, if you show up there, you might become Captain Ryuunosuke's Achilles heel."

There was helplessness in Dragon's voice.

Sabo's strength was already on a level comparable to a Marine Admiral.

But when facing those monsters, even that level felt inadequate.

"Leader."

"What we're doing now is completely different from what we were doing before."

"The World Government has been overthrown, and the Dragon Hunter Pirates deserve a lot of that credit."

"If, at this moment, none of us can show up and represent us in the fight…"

"Then we really have become the ones doing odd jobs behind the Dragon Hunter Pirates."

Sabo stabbed Dragon right where it hurt.

Dragon had spent his entire life trying to overthrow the World Government and build a new order.

Yet now, on the seas, the only name people truly acknowledged was the Dragon Hunter Pirates.

No matter the Revolutionary Army's reputation, no matter its ability, in the eyes of the world they were supporting characters.

Handymen.

Because the most important work had been done by Ryuunosuke's crew.

Everyone else sounded like they were just repeating what they had heard.

"If you go now, it'll probably be too late," Dragon said, refusing to yield.

"With the Dragon Hunter Pirates' way of doing things, the battle will already be over by the time you arrive."

"Sabo, instead of chasing that, think about the next phase."

"Think about the action plan Captain Ryuunosuke entrusted to us."

Sabo's fist tightened, then loosened.

He had pushed as far as he could.

If Dragon was still going to respond like this, Sabo had no reason to keep arguing.

"I understand."

He nodded, then turned and left.

Dragon's gaze followed him, then shifted to Kerla.

"Kerla, follow Sabo."

"Don't let him act on his own."

"Understood," Kerla answered immediately, then hurried after Sabo.

Sabo heard it too.

Dragon did not even bother lowering his voice.

The two of them had always acted together.

And their bond had long since gone beyond simple comrades in the same cause.

Using Kerla to limit Sabo was the most effective method Dragon had.

Soon, both of them disappeared from sight.

Just then, a figure in a black cloak appeared beside Dragon, voice low and gloomy.

"Dragon, it's almost time to start the next stage."

"Otherwise, it really will become exactly what Sabo said."

"We'll only be following behind the Dragon Hunter Pirates."

Dragon's expression hardened.

"I don't need you to teach me how to do things."

He did not explain, and he did not argue.

He simply turned and vanished.

Behind him, the man in the black cloak let out a cackling laugh.

Then it was time to wait.

Wait for the catch to bite.

The Dragon Hunter Pirates were ultimately too young.

Meanwhile, at Marine Headquarters.

"Carmel."

"Vegapunk will be here soon."

Ryuunosuke looked at Nirvash in front of him and spoke directly.

"Are you still prepared to abandon your soul and sacrifice yourself for others?"

His voice carried the power of the soul itself.

It pierced through Nirvash's armor at the bow of the ship and sank straight into the creature's body.

Deep inside, at the core, Carmel suddenly opened his eyes.

"I… I'm not dead yet?"

He heard Ryuunosuke's voice.

At the same time, he could think clearly.

He could feel herself.

That made no sense to him.

Logically, once he entered Nirvash's body, he should have lost this kind of independent consciousness.

What Carmel did not know was simple.

Nirvash had not even had time to evolve to the next stage.

Before that could happen, Ryuunosuke and his group had already injured it so badly that it could not stabilize itself.

And a severely injured Nirvash had no time to fuse fully with Carmel's consciousness and soul.

"Miss Bakkin is still waiting for you," Ryuunosuke said again.

"If you truly lose consciousness, she'll probably rush into Nirvash's body as well."

"Then the proof that you ever existed will disappear."

"Is that what you wanted?"

Nirvash grew even more irritable.

It tried to wrench itself free from Gaino's restraints and lunge at Ryuunosuke.

But even if Gaino could not kill it, stopping it was easy.

And as a new consciousness awakened inside its body, Nirvash sensed danger.

Two consciousnesses in one body was never a good thing.

Even a creature with barely any awareness could feel that.

That was why it became so violent.

Then, a voice reached Ryuunosuke's ears from nearby.

"Captain Ryuunosuke sent me here, not to show me how you negotiate with Carmel…"

"But to let me watch you do it, is that right?"

Ryuunosuke smiled.

"Mr. Vegapunk, you're fast."

He had known Vegapunk had special methods to reach this place.

He just had not expected him to arrive so quickly.

Still, faster was better.

Ryuunosuke had no time to waste.

He was busy searching for the next Laugh Tale, not playing god making games at Marine Headquarters.

"Captain Ryuunosuke," Vegapunk said, cutting straight to the point, "you called me here and said you want to cooperate with me to create a god."

"Does this count as cooperation?"

"Of course it counts," Ryuunosuke replied.

"But I think you've already considered the conditions required for cooperation."

He sat casually on Gaino's shoulder, looking down at Vegapunk.

"Tell me."

"Why do you want to create a god?"

At this moment, Gaino had already stopped attacking Nirvash.

Vegapunk had arrived in person.

Continuing to beat down his experimental subject would be, at best, bad manners.

"Creating a god…"

Vegapunk's eyes narrowed.

"Because we are human."

"There are things we cannot do ourselves."

"So we can only do them through a god."

"There is a god that threatens the safety of this world."

"And the god I create will be used to find her…"

"Then drive her out."

He stated his purpose without hesitation.

Ryuunosuke's brows drew together.

"The god you're talking about…"

"It's Lilith, isn't it?"

"No," Vegapunk answered immediately.

"Lilith is not a god."

"She's only a tool used by the gods."

"The reason I want to drive them away is also for her freedom."

"She is imprisoned by eternal shackles."

"And only a god can free her."

Vegapunk spoke again, each sentence sharper than the last.

Ryuunosuke had finally started to understand, and then he stopped understanding entirely.

Create gods, then drive away the gods.

Then save Lilith.

It was a plan that sounded like it came from a mind that never slept and never learned fear.

Ryuunosuke stared at Vegapunk for a moment, expression shifting into genuine confusion.

What exactly was this man trying to do?

Was there some other story between Vegapunk and Lilith that Ryuunosuke did not know yet?
