Hearing the fireman's words, Tanjiro realized he'd been manipulated by the demon and felt a surge of pity.
"Tanjiro, are you alright?! Let me kill this guy!" Inosuke noticed the sudden turn of events, saw Tanjiro stabbed, and prepared to kill the fireman.
"Wait, Inosuke! He's innocent! Don't hurt him!" Tanjiro stopped him.
"Why?!" Inosuke couldn't understand Tanjiro's reasoning. In his mind, anyone who threatened his life was fair game.
"He's been manipulated by the demon! Once we defeat the demon's main body, he'll regain his senses," Tanjiro explained.
Tanjiro swiftly knocked the fireman unconscious with a hand strike, pulled the knife from his abdomen, and tossed it into the burning furnace.
The furnace was filled with glowing coals. Tanjiro didn't want to risk the fireman getting up and interfering, so he didn't just drop the knife on the floor.
"Inosuke, no more delays. I can clearly smell the main body under the floor. Let's break it open!" Tanjiro urged.
Inosuke replied, "Got it! If I wasn't worried about you, I would've already dealt with this iron centipede!"
Tanjiro didn't argue, focusing on regulating his breathing. The stab wound, however slight, still affected him.
"Beast Breathing, Second Form: Rip and Tear!" Inosuke swung his Nichirin Blade, striking the floor of the combustion chamber.
"Bang!"
A shattering sound echoed, accompanied by the clang of metal.
A large cross-shaped hole appeared in the floor, revealing a massive bone resembling a spinal column.
Tanjiro saw the weak point before him—Lower Rank One's vital spot. Without hesitation, he launched a finishing blow.
"Water Breathing, Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin!"
Tanjiro raised his Nichirin Blade high and brought it down heavily on the exposed cervical vertebra.
Almost instantly, numerous tumors sprouted from the vertebra, protecting the vital area.
Tanjiro's blade only struck the tumors, causing no damage to the vertebra itself.
The Waterfall Basin only created a large gash in the tumors, briefly exposing the vertebra for a second before the tumors healed.
The tumors twisted and writhed, transforming into numerous hands that lunged at Tanjiro.
Tanjiro swiftly cut down the approaching demonic hands and said to Inosuke, "Inosuke, the demon's regeneration is too powerful! One person can't sever its neck. We need to coordinate our attacks."
