"Thud, thud, thud."
From a distance came hurried footsteps. Brandan looked up, and saw Iris Harris running over quickly, her hair disheveled and face pale.
Her eyes were red. When she saw Brandan sitting on the bench, her legs went weak, and she collapsed to her knees.
Brandan immediately stood up, ran over, and lifted her from the ground. "Iris, are you alright?"
Iris clung to him tightly and started to cry in terror: "You scared me to death!"
She was truly petrified.
She only heard the sound of explosions and crying people over the phone, and Brandan hadn't responded. She thought something had happened to him too.
She ran over, terrified all the way, not even knowing how she got out of the house and drove here.
Brandan held her, saying nothing until she calmed down, then brought her to the bench and said in a low voice, "I'm sorry. Things were too urgent, I lost my phone and didn't have time to call you."
Iris held onto him, crying, still shaken and cold all over.
