MGSFV?! Chapter 331. Griseo Is One of the Flame-Chasers Too

The players' emotions were still brewing.

Or rather, the sudden return to the battlefield interface made them pause before venting the surge inside.

That didn't mean they wouldn't be venting something else in a few minutes.

Back to the story—

Time in the game had returned to the present.

And the Herrscher of Corruption now understood what had happened earlier.

"So that's what it was?"

"So even though it looked strange… that 'Kosma' from before… was actually his real self."

"And yet he says he's not someone who speaks one way and thinks another..."

She said this, then turned to Griseo and asked, "But Griseo, if you already knew all this... why would you still appear before me?"

"Aren't you afraid of letting his efforts go to waste? Kosma... stayed behind precisely so you wouldn't have to sacrifice yourself."

Griseo replied softly, "Because I... cannot leave."

Her reason for staying was also her final decision.

"You're right, I shouldn't have asked—because the answer is too obvious."

The Herrscher of Corruption changed her tone: "If Kosma could see this, I'm sure he'd be comforted."

"The Radiant Light he inherited from Ato… hasn't it already been passed on?"

Now she was sighing as if she felt some kind of deep empathy, but never once did she reflect on why things had come to such an irreversible point.

Players immediately started screaming internally in their beautiful native tongues.

Comforted? Comforted your ass! Who are you to feel comforted?!

They were already seething from the earlier plot developments.

And this Herrscher still had the nerve to comment on Kosma's sacrifice? Comforted???

How were they supposed to hold back now?!

Blood pressure, once again, soaring—courtesy of the Herrscher of Corruption.

Yet she remained blissfully oblivious, showing no sign that she saw anything wrong with her actions.

"Well then... little Griseo."

"I'll take his place… and take good care of you."

That was the final straw.

The crowd of players couldn't hold it anymore—fingers flying toward their keyboards, ready to let loose a torrent of furious, scathing comments.

But—

Their hands froze mid-air.

Because...

"Kosma's decision... truly fills me with regret."

"So please, Griseo… promise me you won't do anything that would make me sad too."

As soon as she finished speaking, the game cut back to the combat screen.

The player-controlled character was still the Herrscher of Corruption.

And standing across from them—

Was Griseo???

They recalled the last fight against Kosma, and their expressions instantly twisted.

Then, instinctively—ESC. They hit the pause menu.

?????

Scriptwriter, are you out of your mind??

How could you do this???

Earlier—

Sakura's sacrifice? It was tragic, but they accepted it.

Kosma's sacrifice? A willing and honorable death—they gritted their teeth and bore it.

But now—now you want them to personally have the Herrscher of Corruption attack Griseo???

Their mental state completely collapsed.

[This is psychological torture layered on top of murder. My blood pressure's at its limit.]

[Congratulations, scriptwriter. You've finally gone all out. You're now worthy of being taken out.]

[What's the point of playing anymore?! I'm uninstalling Honkai—...damn, no I can't, I still need to bring Elysia home. Ugh. This hurts. It really hurts.]

"You actually… really did it…"

Mobius looked toward Hokuto, visibly shaken.

"If you can't go through with this, Dr. Mobius, feel free to switch out… or let me handle it. After all… everyone keeps saying the scriptwriter has no heart," Hokuto replied slowly and with crystal clarity.

"...Hmph."

Mobius hesitated briefly, then scoffed.

"I don't believe it… maybe this is just a bluff."

She hovered her finger over the attack key, but at the last moment, instinctively pulled back.

Realizing her own hesitation, she forcefully stiffened her expression and gently pressed the button.

In-game, under her control—

The Herrscher of Corruption loosed an arrow that struck Griseo dead-on.

To the left, the Herrscher's corruption meter rose: +1 "Joy."

Mobius: "...???"

Crack—

Her grip on the device tightened audibly.

"..."

"Dr. Mobius?"

Hokuto glanced at Mobius' hand, noting her pale fingers from the excessive force. Quietly, he scooted his seat a little farther away.

Thankfully, the situation didn't spiral further.

Mobius squinted at the screen for a long moment before turning her gaze toward the stream overlay.

She happened to catch sight of Griseo and Kosma—still chatting off-screen.

"Kosma, everyone… what's going on? The mood… it's a little strange… Wasn't Kosma doing great? Why does everyone seem so upset?"

"Griseo… it's not about Kosma's performance," Kosma faltered, "it's because…"

"Because?"

Griseo tilted her head, earnestly waiting for an answer.

Kosma opened his mouth, but no words came out.

He could only glance helplessly toward Elysia, standing nearby.

"..."

Elysia saw his silent plea for help, paused to think, then gently clapped her hands to get everyone's attention.

"Everyone, maybe… it's best not to act too strangely around Griseo right now."

"After all, it might affect her…"

She paused, then added, "If you have something to say, wait until the stream ends and talk to him afterward…"

Upon hearing that, several people nodded in agreement.

"She's right. No need to bring this up in front of the child… Also, I still want to hear what Elysia has to say…"

The tense atmosphere gradually eased.

Mobius also looked away from the screen.

Elysia had a point.

Griseo was the type to be deeply affected by others' emotions.

Mobius took a deep breath and relaxed her grip on the controller.

She looked like she was ready to continue the story.

But before she could resume—

"So… this is Griseo's decision? Not wanting to hide behind the 'grown-ups' anymore?"

She posed a question.

"...She's one of the Flame-Chasers," Hokuto replied.
