Chapter 4 - Chapter 2

Laura just returned home from her interview, more precisely she had just reached her door step, she opened the door and entered the small 2 story building

" I'm home " she said as she entered the house.

" Welcome back sweetie how did the interview go. " Asked a female voice that came from the kitchen.

" Let me see... " Said Laura before concentrating as if trying to gather her thoughts.

" From the first 30 minutes it seems it went well! " She replied as she moved towards the kitchen. On her way her gaze fell on their broken clock, making her realize something.

" How long was I gone ? " She asked.

" The whole day sweetie it's already 4 pm. " Her mother replied .

" The interview started at 9:30 what took me so so long! " She exclaimed frustrated at herself.

Laura began concentrating wanting to remember what took her so long.

" It's okay sweetheart, don't worry, it was your first time, even if things didn't go well at the end it's not a problem, for now just relax, you might not remember today , but your body sure does, just take a break for now okay?! "

Laura didn't fully agree with her mother, she was worried, more worried than she has ever been.

One could say she might have been overthinking, and she knew of that possibility as well, but it didn't matter to her, from her point of view overthinking could be a boon as long as one didn't take to much risk, so she continued to worry, worried what the article would be like, worried about what effect it would have on her reputation, worried on how it would affect her life style, worried if her parents would get mad at her again.

But dispite all that her mother had given her a request and it was her duty to fufil it, so reluctantly she agreed.

She sat down on the couch and let the memories of her worries to fade away.

The rest of the day was spent normally, with Laura and her mom chatting and watching TV and any other regular stuff. Her father had traveled out of the state for work while her mom would be leaving this night to go visit family, she would have loved to accompany one of them but she had school after tomorrow.

Eventually she fell asleep forgetting once more the majority of things that has happened this night.

***

It was morning, Laura had just woken up she wondered how long she had been asleep, verifying her memories, she remembered that yesterday was Saturday, so not bothering to check she assumed she had spent majority of her night on TV.

Rubbing her eyes, she stood and verified the time on her alarm clock.

It showed 09:02.

Laura was abit surprised by this, but didn't mind.

Today was Sunday and she had nothing to do, and unfortunately everyone she knew was occupied, her dad was at work, her mom was traveling to visit family, her friends were stuck at home studying for the test they had on Monday leaving her all alone on this Sunday.

So she went down stairs and decided to watch TV .

She thought about what to watch for a short while then remembered the name of a movie she had really enjoyed watching. Wanting to relive the trill she accessed Neflix on her TV and put the movie.

The movie lasted 3 hours, which pleased Laura who considered letting herself forget the movie to rewatch again, it sounded like a fun way to spend the day, but before that she decided to search the cable to see if there was anything else worth watching for the day.

Doing just that she went from channel to channel searching for anything interesting to watch. Eventually she reached the news channel and saw something weird, so weird she had to check her memory to make sure today wasn't April fool's day.

The head line read : BOY WITH SUPER POWERS DESTROYS KINDERGARTEN!

Forgetting completely about her search for excitement, she stopped at the news channel and listen to what the news was saying

In summary ( due to my laziness) apparently a boy with fire powers had reduced his kindergarten and everyone inside to ash.

" This is just stupid " Laura said at the edge of laughter, she didn't believe one bit of it, after all a boy powers was something that only happened in fiction, she was convinced it was some kind of prank.

And as if to prove her point the journalist saying the headline starter laughing.

"Are we doing jokes now? " The guy in the news said, clearly amused.

And as if to prove them both wrong, a video of the kindergarten in question was displayed on the screen behind him.

The building displayed was in ruin, majority of it was completely burned to ash while the remaining structures were either left as charcoal or melted metal.

Laura was incabable of knowing but the man on the screen was about to yell that it couldn't be possible for a child to have done this.

And she would never know for before he could even open his mouth to speak, the image was replaced with a video.

Seeing the video Laura didn't realize but her mouth dropped open.

She was terrified, so much so she forgot to breath ignoring he brains constant reminder, so much so her heart beat was so loud it could be heard in the other room, so much so she that even though she knew it was merely on screen and that the scene had surely passed she feared for her life.

The video showed the kindergarten burning in flames covering it in it's interity. The building it self could barely be seen with all the blaze sorounding it. And despite the sirens of the fire truck ariving, the numerous civilians sorounding the scene, the birds running from the area and the various phones and camera's video taping the scene, the only sounds that could be heard was that of the burning wood and the screams of the children inside. Not because the other things didn't produce sounds but because those where the only words her mind could concentrate on.

A few more moments later after the screams could no longer be heard, the sounds of laughter erupted from the fire.

The laughter wasn't diabolical or evil but gentle and chaotic like that of child mocking someone after pulling a prank.

This left Laura confused, nothing was making sense after all. So remembering her teachers wise words ' if you don't understand something then get more information ' she decided to further analyze the scene and hopefully get the tiniest bit of information on how the fire had started not realizing it, she had simply forgotten about the news headline about the child causing it.

A few seconds later after carefully analyzing the entire frame she was left more confused than before, she verified all the frames of the video through her memory to make sure she wasn't making an error, but that only confirmed her observation.

The fire of the building wasn't waning, it was increasing in size but was reducing at all. The flame looked less of that of a burning building but more like that of a candle and the most shocking was that the flame wasn't propagating, despite the fact that sorounding the school were flameable items each more than the last.

Laura's confusion just grew more and more as time passed as that fire kept on breaking the laws if physics and if she didn't know better she would have thought the flame had a mind of it's own.

After a while a boy came out of the burning building, a young boy, he looked a little cute , and wore normal clothes for someone his age he looked normal completely normal and acted so too, he acted as though he wasn't the one who just walked out of a burning building unscratched. Then suddenly the flame started to move the moved into the boy as though it was water entering a sinkhole.

Laura had enough not standing the nonsense anymore she took the remote and of the TV and decided to use her phones instead .

" But what was my password again." She pondered for a while.

" Oh right I don't have one!" she finally remembered, they had taken off her password since she forgot it too many times but no body honestly expected her to forget she had one .

Online she was taken aback by what she saw thousands of stories all about the same topic.

People were awakening as they called it.

The more she researched the less doubt she felt.

" This is real!!! " She exclaimed, finally accepting the reality in front of her.

She then decided to do more research on the subject and discovered that the latest time someones ability had manifested was at about exactly noon. And she spent time doing more research until eventually she lost track of time.

Her battery eventually ran down and realizing that she had probably spent too much time on her phone she checked what time it was on the analog clock on the wall in the living room.

It read 3 : 48 pm.

But before she could even think she felt immense pain and screamed, a scream deserving of such.

" Huh! Huh! " She breath, she then checked her time and it was currently precisely noon.

" It was all a dream " she muttered and went back to sleep.
