Chapter 41 - Dragon Form

The kids kept playing.

The Duel went back and forth.

Yugi managed to summon several monsters and nearly turned the Duel around.

Kaiba refused to give up.

Albion kept pushing his Dragons forward.

Eventually, the Duel came to an end.

Albion had won.

For a few seconds, the three boys just stared at the cards.

Then Yugi laughed.

"That was fun."

Albion grinned.

"Yeah."

Kaiba crossed his arms.

"I'm going to win next time."

Albion laughed.

"Sure you are."

Kaiba glared at him.

"I will."

Yugi smiled.

"You two really are becoming rivals."

Albion shrugged.

"Maybe."

A car suddenly pulled up nearby.

Kaiba looked toward it.

"My ride is here."

He picked up his Deck.

"I'll see you tomorrow."

Yugi waved.

"Bye, Kaiba!"

Albion waved too.

"Later."

Kaiba walked toward the car.

The door opened.

He climbed inside.

The car drove away.

Soon, only Yugi and Albion were left.

Yugi looked at him.

"So, are you going home?"

Albion nodded.

"Yup."

Yugi smiled.

"Okay. Bye, Thomas."

"Bye, Yugi."

The two boys walked in opposite directions.

Albion continued down the street.

He kept walking until he reached a quiet alley.

He looked around.

Nobody was there.

"Okay."

He leaned against the wall.

"Time to go back."

Albion closed his eyes.

His breathing slowed.

His body began to fade.

It didn't disappear all at once.

His hands became transparent first.

Then his arms.

His legs slowly faded away.

The rest of his body followed.

It looked almost like his body was turning into mist.

Within seconds, there was nothing left.

No clothes.

No body.

Nothing.

Because the human body had never been real.

It was only a form created for Albion's mind to interact with the Human World.

His real body was still in the Monster World.

Albion's consciousness slipped away from the Human World.

Then everything went dark.

A few seconds later...

Albion opened his eyes.

He was back in the Monster World.

He blinked.

"Morning."

He yawned.

Then he sat up.

His first thought was simple.

'I'm hungry.'

Albion got out of bed and headed toward the bathroom.

A few minutes later, he finished brushing his teeth.

He walked toward the dining room.

The smell of breakfast reached him before he entered.

Albion's stomach immediately growled.

"Yep."

He walked inside.

"Definitely breakfast."

King Albion was already sitting at the head of the table.

He was calmly eating his meal.

Beside him sat Focalors.

She was holding baby Furina in her arms.

Furina was still tiny.

She happily opened her mouth as her mother fed her.

"Here you go."

Furina made a small noise.

"Ah."

Focalors smiled.

"Good girl."

Albion stopped at the entrance.

He watched them for a moment.

His little sister looked completely peaceful.

Albion smiled.

"Morning, Mom."

Focalors looked up.

"Good morning, Albion."

King Albion looked over.

"Morning."

Albion walked toward his usual seat.

He climbed into his chair and sat down.

Then he looked at his father.

"Morning, Dad."

King Albion nodded.

"Sleep well?"

Albion nodded.

"Yeah."

He reached for his breakfast.

"Pretty good."

King Albion continued eating.

"Did you have any strange dreams?"

Albion paused.

He thought about the Human World.

The card shop.

Yugi.

Kaiba.

His new Dragon Deck.

The Duel.

Albion smiled.

"No."

He picked up his food.

"Nothing strange."

King Albion raised an eyebrow.

Focalors looked at him.

Albion immediately started eating.

"Well..."

He thought about it.

"Maybe one thing."

Focalors smiled.

"What?"

Albion looked at his breakfast.

"I think I made two friends."

King Albion stopped eating.

Focalors smiled warmly.

"That's nice."

Albion nodded.

"Yeah."

He took another bite.

"They're both really weird."

King Albion chuckled.

"Then you'll fit right in."

Albion looked at him.

"Thanks, Dad."

Focalors laughed softly.

Furina reached toward Albion with her tiny hand.

Albion looked at her.

"You want some too?"

Furina made another happy sound.

Focalors smiled.

"She seems to like you."

Albion grinned.

"I'm her big brother."

Furina grabbed at the air again.

Albion gently held her tiny hand.

"Morning, Furina."

Furina smiled.

For a moment, Albion forgot about the Human World.

No Duel Monsters.

No rivalries.

No strange gods.

No Elemental Kingdoms.

Just breakfast with his family.

Then King Albion looked at him.

"So."

Albion looked up.

"Yeah?"

King Albion took another bite.

"What did you do yesterday?"

Albion froze.

He slowly looked at his father.

'Oh.'

He had forgotten one important detail.

His father still didn't know about everything that happened during his fishing trip.

Albion swallowed.

"...Fishing."

King Albion nodded.

"Anything interesting happen?"

Albion stared at him.

He thought about Aqua.

The Water Kingdom.

King Triton.

The Cat Shark.

The Liquid Soldiers.

The accidental royal meeting.

Albion smiled awkwardly.

"Not really."

King Albion stared at him.

Focalors stared at him.

Albion continued eating.

"...Okay, maybe a little."

King Albion continued eating for a moment.

Then he looked toward his son.

"Since you are ten, almost eleven, it's time."

Albion stopped eating.

His eyes widened.

"Wait."

He slowly put his fork down.

"Do you mean..."

His eyes began to sparkle.

"I can finally learn to access my Dragon Form?"

King Albion nodded.

"Yes."

Albion practically jumped out of his chair.

"YES!"

Focalors laughed.

Furina looked at her brother in confusion.

Albion turned toward his father.

"When do we start?"

King Albion raised an eyebrow.

"After breakfast."

Albion stared at him.

"After breakfast?"

"Yes."

"But I want to start now!"

"You haven't finished eating."

Albion looked down at his plate.

Then at his father.

Then back at his food.

He sighed.

"Fine."

He quickly grabbed another bite.

King Albion shook his head.

"Slow down."

Albion swallowed.

"I've been waiting for this for years!"

Focalors smiled.

"I know."

Albion looked at her.

"You knew?"

"Of course."

She gently adjusted Furina in her arms.

"You've asked your father about your Dragon Form almost every month."

Albion looked embarrassed.

"Not every month."

King Albion immediately replied.

"Every month."

Albion frowned.

"Traitor."

Focalors laughed.

King Albion smiled.

"Your Dragon Form is not something you should rush into."

Albion's excitement settled slightly.

He looked at his father.

"Why?"

King Albion placed his utensils down.

"Because transforming isn't simply changing your appearance."

Albion listened carefully.

"Your Dragon Form is part of your true nature. Your strength, instincts, magic, and emotions all become connected."

He paused.

"If you lose control, your body may react before your mind does."

Albion nodded slowly.

"So I need to control it."

"Exactly."

King Albion looked directly at him.

"You've spent years learning how to control your magic."

Albion nodded.

"Now you will learn how to control your Dragon."

Albion's eyes sparkled again.

"That sounds awesome."

Focalors smiled.

"It can be."

She looked at him.

"But it can also be dangerous."

Albion nodded.

"I understand."

King Albion stood.

"Good."

He looked toward the courtyard.

"Finish breakfast."

Albion stared at him.

"Then we train?"

King Albion nodded.

"Then we train."

Albion immediately grabbed his food.

Focalors laughed.

"Slowly."

Albion slowed down.

"...I'm trying."

King Albion shook his head with a small smile.

"Some things never change."

Albion looked toward the courtyard.

For years, he had watched other dragons transform.

He had seen their wings grow.

Their bodies change.

Their magic surge.

He had always wondered what his own Dragon Form would look like.

Now he was finally going to find out.

Albion smiled.

'Finally.'

'I'm going to become a real dragon.'

Later that morning, Albion had gathered everyone in the library.

He was standing in front of the group with a huge smile on his face.

Dharc sat nearby with his book.

Hiita looked like she was barely containing her excitement.

Wynn and Eria, however, looked worried.

Lyna leaned against a bookshelf, clearly interested.

Aussa looked toward Asterion.

Asterion noticed.

So did Scarlet.

Asterion sighed.

"As someone who recently unlocked his Dragon Form, I can tell you, Albion, it's not as exciting as it sounds."

Albion's smile faded slightly.

"What do you mean?"

Asterion crossed his arms.

"Well, for starters, it hurts."

Albion blinked.

"It hurts?"

"Yeah."

Asterion pointed at himself.

"My bones changed. My muscles changed. My wings grew. Even my senses changed."

Albion slowly looked toward his own arms.

"That sounds..."

He paused.

"Really painful."

Asterion nodded.

"It is."

Scarlet nodded as well.

"Yeah. But I think the King will do it differently from the Red-Eyes Clan or Blue-Eyes Clan."

Albion looked at her.

"Why?"

Scarlet shrugged.

"Because you're not from either clan."

She pointed at him.

"You're a Dragon Prince."

Albion blinked.

"So?"

Asterion answered.

"Your bloodline is different."

He leaned back.

"Most dragons awaken their Dragon Form through their clan's natural method."

Albion listened carefully.

"Red-Eyes dragons usually awaken through their own instincts and power."

Scarlet nodded.

"Blue-Eyes dragons are similar, but their transformation is much more focused on raw spiritual energy."

Asterion looked at Albion.

"But your father rules a nation filled with different Dragon types."

Albion slowly nodded.

"So my Dragon Form might not follow one clan's rules."

"Exactly."

Hiita raised her hand.

"Does that mean Albion could have a completely unique Dragon Form?"

Asterion looked at her.

"Possibly."

Hiita's eyes sparkled.

"That is so cool!"

Wynn frowned.

"Unless it hurts."

Hiita paused.

"...Oh."

Eria crossed her arms.

"How bad is the pain?"

Asterion thought about it.

"Bad enough that I don't want to do it again."

Albion swallowed.

"That bad?"

Asterion nodded.

"Imagine your entire body deciding that the shape it's had for your entire life is wrong."

Albion's expression slowly changed.

"That's..."

Asterion continued.

"Then imagine every part of your body changing at the same time."

Albion's excitement was starting to disappear.

Wynn looked worried.

"Maybe Albion shouldn't do it."

Albion looked at her.

"What?"

"You don't have to."

Wynn stepped closer.

"If it hurts that much, you can wait."

Albion smiled softly.

"I can't."

Wynn frowned.

"Why?"

Albion looked down at his hands.

"Because I'm a dragon."

He looked toward the others.

"And I'm going to be King someday."

Asterion went quiet.

Albion continued.

"If I'm going to rule dragons, I should understand what they go through."

Scarlet smiled slightly.

"That's a good answer."

Lyna finally spoke.

"There's another reason."

Everyone looked at her.

She pushed herself away from the bookshelf.

"His Dragon Form might tell us something about his nature."

Albion looked confused.

"What do you mean?"

Lyna pointed toward him.

"Dragon Forms aren't just physical transformations."

She tapped her temple.

"They can reflect the dragon's soul."

Albion blinked.

"My soul?"

Lyna nodded.

"Your instincts. Your magic. Your bloodline."

She paused.

"Sometimes even your personality."

Hiita looked excited again.

"So we get to see what Albion's Dragon Form says about him!"

Wynn looked at her.

"That's not helping."

Hiita smiled.

"Sorry."

Dharc finally closed his book.

"I think everyone is forgetting something."

Albion looked at him.

"What?"

Dharc adjusted his glasses.

"King Albion is going to be the one teaching him."

Everyone went quiet.

Asterion slowly nodded.

"That's true."

Scarlet smiled.

"And that changes everything."

Albion's eyes widened.

"So Dad knows how to do this?"

Dharc nodded.

"He's the Dragon King."

Albion grinned.

"Then I'm not worried."

Wynn still looked nervous.

"You're not?"

Albion shook his head.

"Nope."

He smiled.

"My dad wouldn't let anything happen to me."

Asterion looked at Scarlet.

Scarlet looked back.

They both smiled.

Asterion nodded.

"Then I guess we're going to see what kind of Dragon Prince you really are."

Hiita raised both fists.

"I'm going to watch!"

Eria sighed.

"Of course you are."

Aussa smiled.

"This should be interesting."

Albion looked around at everyone.

"Tomorrow."

He grinned.

"Tomorrow I become a dragon."

Dharc sighed.

"You've been a dragon your entire life."

Albion froze.

"...You know what I mean."

Everyone laughed.

Even Wynn smiled.

Albion crossed his arms.

"Tomorrow."

He looked toward the window.

"Dragon Form."

His eyes sparkled again.

'Finally.'

The next morning arrived.

The training grounds outside the royal castle were quiet.

Albion stood in the center of the field, practically bouncing on his feet.

King Albion stood across from him.

Focalors stood beside the King, watching her son with a warm smile.

Before they began, King Albion looked at Albion.

"Before we start, we must tell you something, son."

Albion straightened.

"Yes?"

Focalors smiled.

"You are a hybrid Dragon."

Albion blinked.

"A hybrid?"

She nodded.

"I am a White Night Dragon."

She looked toward King Albion.

"Your father is an Albion Dragon."

King Albion nodded.

"That means your Dragon Form won't be exactly like either of ours."

Albion's eyes widened.

"Wait. So I'm actually part White Night Dragon and part Albion Dragon?"

"Yes."

Albion looked at his hands.

'That explains a lot.'

King Albion stepped forward.

"There's something else you need to understand."

He looked at Focalors.

They exchanged a glance.

Then both began to transform.

Albion's eyes widened.

Focalors' body became covered in pale scales.

Her arms shifted as enormous white wings spread from her back.

Her body grew larger.

Her horns appeared.

A bright, almost moonlike glow surrounded her.

The White Night Dragon stood before Albion.

Albion stared.

"Wow..."

He had seen his mother in this form before.

But only a few times.

Seeing her transform right in front of him still left him speechless.

Then King Albion transformed.

His body expanded.

Red scales covered his body as enormous wings unfolded behind him.

His horns grew.

Flames began to flicker around his claws.

The powerful red Dragon stood beside the White Night Dragon.

Albion looked between them.

His father.

His mother.

Two completely different Dragons.

Yet both were unmistakably his parents.

King Albion looked down at his son.

"You have only seen these forms a few times."

Albion nodded.

"Yeah."

King Albion continued.

"But I can tell you one thing."

He lowered his head slightly.

"Your Dragon Form will be different from both of ours."

Albion blinked.

"Different how?"

King Albion returned to his human form.

Focalors did the same.

"That's what we're here to find out."

Albion's excitement returned immediately.

"So I won't look like you?"

King Albion shook his head.

"Not exactly."

"Or Mom?"

"Not exactly."

Albion grinned.

"Then what will I look like?"

Focalors laughed softly.

"We don't know."

Albion froze.

"You don't know?"

King Albion shook his head.

"Your Dragon Form is your own."

He placed a hand over Albion's chest.

"Your blood comes from both of us, but your Dragon Form will be shaped by you."

Albion looked down.

"My personality?"

"Partly."

"Magic?"

"Partly."

"My bloodline?"

"Definitely."

King Albion stepped back.

"There may even be something in your form that neither of us possesses."

Albion's eyes widened.

"So I could have something completely unique?"

"Yes."

Albion smiled.

'That's awesome.'

Focalors walked over and gently placed a hand on his head.

"But don't get too excited."

Albion looked up.

"Why?"

"Because your first transformation may not look impressive."

His smile disappeared.

"What?"

Focalors giggled.

"You heard me."

King Albion nodded.

"Your first transformation may be incomplete."

Albion frowned.

"Incomplete?"

"You may only manifest your wings."

"Or your scales."

"Your horns may appear before the rest of your body changes."

Albion looked increasingly confused.

"So I might turn into a half-dragon?"

"Possibly."

Albion looked at his father.

"That sounds embarrassing."

King Albion laughed.

"It is."

"Great."

Focalors smiled.

"But don't worry."

She crouched down so she was at Albion's eye level.

"Your first transformation doesn't have to be perfect."

She tapped his chest.

"You only need to take the first step."

Albion took a deep breath.

"Okay."

King Albion moved toward the center of the training ground.

"Stand here."

Albion walked over.

King Albion raised one hand.

"Close your eyes."

Albion did.

"Now breathe."

Albion slowly inhaled.

"Think about what you are."

Albion remained still.

"A Dragon."

King Albion nodded.

"Not what you want to become."

He paused.

"What you already are."

Albion's breathing slowed.

He could hear the wind.

The trees.

His mother's breathing.

His father's heartbeat.

Then something else.

A faint rumble inside his chest.

Albion's eyes remained closed.

'What is that?'

The rumble became stronger.

His fingers tightened.

A strange warmth spread through his body.

King Albion's expression changed.

He could feel it.

"Good."

Focalors smiled.

"He's starting."

Albion opened his eyes.

"What do I do now?"

King Albion smiled.

"Let your Dragon come out."
