I remained hidden behind the SUV.
The cold metal pressed against my shoulder as I crouched lower.
I wasn't even sure why I was hiding anymore.
At first, I had followed my mother hoping for answers.
Now I wasn't sure I wanted them.
Because every answer seemed to create ten more questions.
The parking lot stretched around me, dimly illuminated by decorative hotel lights and the occasional headlights from arriving guests. Music from the event drifted faintly through the night air.
It sounded like a celebration. Many talents proving their years of expertise on the musical stage.
It was indeed a glamorous night.
A night that was supposed to be about dreams coming true.
Yet all I felt was dread.
My mother stood several feet away with her back partially turned to me.
Across from her stood Mrs. Paige.
Casey's mother.
