Chapter 673 - Chapter 535.1

The corridors of the Dreadnought Thalassa stretched before them like the veins of some ancient beast, the curved walls gleaming with a soft, ambient glow that pulsed in time with the submarine's heartbeat. Barren Brahnn's massive brown bear frame filled most of the passageway, his thick fur brushing against the metal walls as he lumbered forward, his arms laden with slabs of sea king meat that dripped brine.

Roan Rokkoh followed close behind, his raccoon features twisted in a constant state of wide-eyed wonder, his striped tail twitching with each new marvel he encountered. His own armload of meat was considerably smaller than Barren's, but he carried it with the proud bearing of a hunter who had just bagged the catch of a lifetime.

Tori Torte brought up the rear, her river otter form sleek and efficient as she navigated the narrow passageways with practiced ease. Her whiskers twitched with curiosity, her dark eyes taking in every detail of the submarine's interior—the strange symbols on the walls, the humming consoles, the faint vibration that ran through the deck plates.

Jelly bounced ahead of them, his form rippling with barely contained energy, his voice a constant stream of enthusiastic chatter. "Sea king jerky! Sea king sandwiches! Sea king stew! Sea king—"

"Would you just focus on where you're going?" Eliane called out, with a mix of fond exasperation and genuine amusement. She led the way, her bundle of sea king meat balanced on one shoulder, her steps light and purposeful. "We're almost there."

Atlas walked beside her, his rust-red fur gleaming in the corridor's ambient light. He carried the largest portion of the catch, his lean form moving with the easy grace of a creature built for speed and precision. His blue sapphire eyes kept flicking to their new guests, studying them with quiet interest.

The galley door hissed open, revealing a spacious chamber that contradicted the submarine's otherwise cramped corridors. Long metal tables dominated the center of the room, their surfaces scarred with years of use. Cooking apparatus of unfamiliar design lined the far wall, their surfaces gleaming from being polished. The air carried the mingled scents of spices, dried herbs, and the faint metallic tang that permeated the entire vessel.

Barren Brahnn set his load on the nearest table with a grunt of effort, the sea king meat landing with a wet thud that shook the table's legs. "I have never been on a submarine," he said, his voice a low rumble that filled the room. "This is... different."

Roan glanced at him, his raccoon features twisted in amusement. "None of us have been, big guy." He set his own smaller load beside Barren's, his striped tail flicking with nervous energy. "You think we'd remember something like this?"

Barren blinked, his small black eyes filled with slow realization. "Oh. Right."

Tori placed her portion on the table with considerably more grace, her river otter form moving as if she never left the water. She turned to face Atlas, her whiskers twitching with curiosity. "Where are you from on Ushirika? I don't recognize your accent. Or your—" She gestured vaguely at his rust-red fur. "Your everything, really."

Atlas shook his head, a small smile playing at his lips. "I'm not from Ushirika. I'm from Zou."

Barren, Roan, and Tori tilted their heads in perfect unison, their expressions a mirror of confused blankness.

Roan's voice carried a note of genuine bewilderment. "Zou? What's a Zou?"

Atlas sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose with a gesture that suggested he had answered this question many times before. "It's an island. On the back of a giant elephant."

Tori and Roan exchanged glances, their expressions shifting from confusion to skepticism.

Barren's voice rumbled with earnest curiosity. "You mean like an elephant Mink?"

Atlas's hand dropped from his face, his expression one of profound weariness. "No. Um." He paused, clearly searching for words. "Don't worry about it. It's... complicated."

Roan's raccoon features shifted to something more calculating. "So if you aren't from Ushirika, why are you here then?" His striped tail lashed behind him, his instincts clearly on alert. "You didn't just surface under our boat by accident."

Everyone's heads whipped around at the sound of Marya's voice, her words cutting through the galley like a blade. "We are looking for a something. Or someone."

She stood in the galley doorway, her leather jacket creaking as she crossed her arms. Her raven hair cascaded down her back, and her ringed golden eyes, one partially silver, swept the room with the patient stillness of a hawk surveying its territory.

Atlas straightened, his posture shifting to something more respectful. "Hey, boss."

Eliane squealed with delight, her earlier task forgotten as she bounded toward the captain. "Marya, look! We have so much sea king meat now!" She gestured at the table with both hands, her enthusiasm infectious. "We can make sea king steaks, sea king burgers, sea king—"

Jelly bounced in place, his form rippling with barely contained energy. "Sea king rice balls! Sea king barbeque! Sea king—"

Eliane shook her head, with fond exasperation. "Just help me put it in the freezer already."

Jelly's form rippled with excitement. "Sea king ice pops!"

Marya blinked at the chaotic pair, her expression unreadable. Then her attention shifted to the three Minks standing nervously by the table, their arms still dripping with brine and their eyes wide with uncertainty.

Atlas stepped forward, for the introduction. "This is the Captain."

Barren, Roan, and Tori blinked in unison, their expressions shifting from confusion to something approaching awe.

Barren was the first to find his voice, his words tumbling out in a rush of gratitude. "Thank you! Thank you so much for saving us! We would have been—" He gestured helplessly at the door, at the water beyond. "We would have been—"

Roan stepped forward, his striped tail lashing behind him. "Yeah, what he said! We owe you everything! If you ever need anything, anything at all—"

Tori's voice cut through the chaos, her river otter form pressing forward with urgent sincerity. "Seriously! We're not a lot, but we're good people! We're fishermen, but we can—"

Marya waved them off, accustom to hearing a thousand similar offers. "You're welcome. But maybe you can help us out too."

Barren, Roan, and Tori perked up in unison, their expressions shifting to eager attention.

Barren's voice carried a note of earnest enthusiasm. "Anything! Whatever you need, we'll—"

Roan nodded vigorously, his striped tail bristling with excitement. "Yeah! We know this island like the back of our paws! Just tell us what you need and—"

Tori's whiskers twitched with keen interest. "Name it. We'll do whatever we can."

Marya studied them for a moment, her golden eyes unreadable. Then she spoke, her voice flat and direct. "Have you ever heard of the Wani Wani no Mi, Model: Ginga?"

Barren, Roan, and Tori tilted their heads in unison, their hands coming up to stroke their chins as they considered the question. The silence stretched for a long moment, broken only by the distant hum of the submarine's systems.

Barren's hand dropped from his chin, his massive paw slamming against his palm with a resounding crack. "What about Prophet Amos Baboto?" His voice carried a note of sudden realization. "He knows about a lot of stuff. He's always talking about the history of our island, about the old artifacts and—"

Roan clapped Barren on the shoulder, his raccoon features breaking into a wide grin. "Good thinking, big guy!" He turned back to Marya, his voice carrying a note of enthusiasm. "Amos Baboto is one of the elders of our people. He's always going on about the old days, about the prophecies and the ruins and—" He paused, his expression shifting to something more thoughtful. "He knows a lot of people too. Important people."

Tori nodded, her whiskers twitching with agreement. "If anyone knows about your Wani Wani whatever, it's him. He's connected to everything in Ushirika."

Atlas grinned, his rust-red fur bristling with barely contained excitement. "Great. Can't wait to meet him."

Marya nodded, her expression still unreadable. "Okay. Thank you." She turned to leave, her leather jacket creaking with the movement. "We'll—"

Galit's voice echoed over the loudspeaker. "Prepare to dock. ETA five minutes."

Marya paused at the door, glancing back over her shoulder. "I will be on the bridge. Meet you on the dock." She vanished into the corridor, her footsteps fading into the distance.

Atlas nodded, with quiet acknowledgment. "Sure thing, boss."

Barren, Roan, and Tori stood in stunned silence, their eyes fixed on the door where Marya had disappeared. The weight of her presence lingered in the air, heavy and undeniable.

Roan's voice was barely a whisper. "So she's the captain." His striped tail bristled with a mixture of awe and nervous energy. "She's... she's something else."

Eliane chimed in, her voice bright with enthusiasm. "She's so cool, right?" She bounced on her heels, her earlier task completely forgotten. "Did you see how she just—" She gestured vaguely at the door. "She's amazing!"

Jelly bounced in place, his form rippling with excitement. "Sea King Kabobs! Sea King Sushi! Sea king steaks for the captain!"

Eliane rolled her eyes, but there was a fond smile on her face. "Alright, alright, let's get this meat in the freezer before it starts to go bad." She turned to Barren, Roan, and Tori, her expression shifting to one of cheerful command. "You three, grab a piece and follow me. We've got a lot of work to do before we dock."

Barren nodded, his massive bear form already moving toward the table. "I can help," he said, his voice carrying the same earnest sincerity as before. "Just tell me what to do and I—"

"You already said that!" Roan and Tori shouted in unison, their voices carrying the comfortable exasperation of old friends.

Barren blinked, his small black eyes filled with confusion. "Oh. Right. Sorry."

Tori shook her head, a small smile tugging at her whiskers. "Just grab the meat and follow Eliane. That's all we need from you."

Barren nodded, his massive paws closing around another slab of sea king meat. "I can do that."

The galley hummed with activity as the group set to work, their earlier tension forgotten in the simple rhythm of shared labor. The sea king meat gleamed on the table, a testament to the power that rested in the hands of the Dreadnought Thalassa's crew.

And somewhere on Ushirika, Prophet Amos Baboto had no idea that a group of strangers was about to knock on his door.
