Chapter 676 - Chapter 537

The streets of Symphoria Harbor thrummed with the chaotic energy of a city that had never known stillness. Coral-stone buildings rose in tiered layers from the harbor, their white lime walls gleaming in the morning sun. Intricately carved teak doors told the stories of generations, each panel a testament to the families who had lived and died within. The air carried the mingled scents of cinnamon, roasting coffee, and drying fish—the perfume of a thousand years of trade and survival.

Minks of every shape and size filled the narrow streets, their furred forms a living tapestry of ochre, charcoal, silver, and gold. They moved with the easy rhythm of a people who had never known the weight of outsiders, their conversations a melodic hum that washed over the newcomers like a wave.

Aurélie walked at the front of the group, her silver hair loose, her steel-gray eyes sweeping the crowd with professional assessment. Her hand rested on the hilt of Anathema, a constant reminder of the threat that lurked in every shadow. In front of her, Roan Rokkoh led the way, his striped tail lashing with nervous energy as he navigated the familiar streets.

Atlas walked beside Bō-Zak, his rust-red fur bristling with discomfort as the crowd parted around them. His blue sapphire eyes tracked the reactions of the Minks they passed—the gasps, the pointing, the whispered questions that rippled through the crowd like waves.

Vesta brought up the rear, her rainbow hair shimmering in the sun, her bright violet eyes drinking in every detail of the strange new city. She bounced with each step, her excitement infectious and utterly oblivious to the tension that crackled around her.

"Hi!" Vesta waved at a group of Mink children who had frozen in the middle of the street, their eyes wide as dinner plates. "I'm Vesta!"

The children blinked, their mouths hanging open. One of them, a small otter Mink, raised a trembling paw to point at her rainbow hair. "Mama—mama, look—"

The mother Mink grabbed her child's hand, her eyes darting nervously between the newcomers. She rushed off without a word, dragging her offspring behind her.

Vesta's smile faltered for just a moment. "Oh. Okay. That's—that's fine. I'm sure they're just—"

A squirrel Mink darted through the crowd, his bushy tail held high as he approached Roan. He leaned in close, his voice a sharp whisper that carried the urgency of a man delivering a warning. "What are you doing? Who are they?" His eyes darted to Aurélie, his whiskers twitching with barely contained fear.

Roan glanced over his shoulder, his raccoon features shifting to something more guarded. He leaned in, his voice low and hurried. "I am taking them to Amos Baboto."

The squirrel Mink's eyes went wide. He nodded once, his tail bristling. "Good thinking. He will know what to do." He cast one more nervous glance at the group and then scurried off, disappearing into the crowd.

Bō-Zak blew out a plume of smoke from his long wooden pipe, his gold-flecked eyes tracking a pair of female Minks who had stopped to stare. He flashed them his most charming smile, his voice dropping to a low, flirtatious purr. "Ladies. I couldn't help but notice you from across the—"

The female Minks recoiled, their fur bristling. One of them grabbed the other's arm and pulled her away, their tails lashing with indignation.

Bō-Zak's smile faltered. He took another drag from his pipe, his expression shifting to one of wounded pride. "Well, that's not the reaction I'm used to."

Atlas scanned the crowd, his brow furrowed with concern. The Minks' reactions were growing more pronounced—more gasps, more pointing, more whispered warnings. The crowd seemed to be pressing in on them, and yet somehow maintaining a careful distance, as if they were walking through a minefield.

Bō-Zak, noticing Atlas's expression, placed a hand on his shoulder. "What has you so bothered?"

Atlas gestured at the crowd, his voice carrying a note of genuine confusion. "Their reaction. It's like they've never seen an outsider before."

Bō-Zak shrugged, taking another drag from his pipe. "So they haven't seen any humans before. What's so odd about that? If they've never left the island—"

Atlas tilted his head, his brow furrowing. "Yeah, but—"

Bō-Zak clapped him on the back, his voice carrying a note of easy reassurance. "Don't worry about it." He gestured toward Vesta, who was now jumping up and down in the middle of the street, waving at a group of children who had gathered to stare. "Vesta will make sure they know all about us."

He winked, his gold-flecked eyes gleaming with amusement.

Atlas's jaw flexed. He opened his mouth to respond, but the words died in his throat.

Lieutenant Corin Rain, an African Wild Dog Mink, stood at a food stall near the edge of the market, his dark eyes fixed on the meat skewer in his hand. The vendor, a portly badger Mink, had been regaling him with tales of the morning's catch—a massive tuna that had nearly capsized his boat—but Corin's attention had wandered.

Something was wrong.

The murmur of the crowd had shifted. The easy rhythm of the market had become something sharper, more urgent. Minks were rushing past him, their voices carrying fragments of excitement and fear.

"Did you see them?"

"Outsiders—actual outsiders—"

"Roan was leading them toward the old hall—"

Corin's ears pointed forward, his instincts snapping to attention. He took a bite of his meat skewer, chewing slowly as he followed the flow of the crowd toward the disturbance.

When his eyes landed on the group, his jaw went slack.

Aurélie walked at the front, her silver hair capturing the sun like a beacon. Roan led the way, his striped tail lashing with barely contained anxiety. Atlas followed close behind, his rust-red fur gleaming, his blue sapphire eyes scanning the crowd with the wariness of a predator in unfamiliar territory. Bō-Zak walked beside him, his pipe trailing smoke, his gold-flecked eyes dancing with amusement.

And Vesta—Vesta was bouncing and waving at everyone she passed, her rainbow hair a riot of color against the pale stone of the city.

Corin's meat skewer lowered slowly. His voice was barely a whisper. "No way."

He watched them pass, his dark eyes tracking their movement with the intensity of a hunter studying his prey. Then he swallowed hard, his throat dry, and rushed off in the opposite direction.

---

The hypostyle hall rose before them like a monument to a forgotten age. Massive pillars of polished stone supported a roof that appeared to float above the gathered crowd, their surfaces covered in carvings that told the story of a civilization long past. The air inside was cool and still, carrying the scent of aged stone and the faint sweetness of incense.

Amos Baboto's, a Baboon Mink, voice echoed through the hall, with the weight of divine authority. He stood on a central dais, his towering olive baboon form draped in flowing robes of charcoal and crimson, his dark eyes burning with righteous fury.

"THE ORACLE HAS SPOKEN!" His voice crashed against the pillars like thunder. "THE DAWN IS UPON US! BUT WHAT ACTION WILL OUR KING TAKE? WILL HE STAND AND FIGHT, OR WILL HE COWER BEHIND HIS THRONE?"

The crowd of Minks gathered before him swayed with his words, their faces a mixture of fear and devotion. They leaned forward, hanging on every syllable, their collective breath held in anticipation.

Aurélie, Roan, Atlas, Bō-Zak, and Vesta entered the hall.

The hush was immediate.

Heads turned. Eyes widened. The crowd parted around them like water around a stone, their attention shifting from the prophet to the strangers who had dared to interrupt his sermon.

Amos Baboto continued his tirade, his voice rising with theatrical passion. "THE PEOPLE DEMAND ANSWERS! THE PEOPLE DEMAND—" He paused, his dark eyes finally registering the shift in the crowd. His head turned, his gaze landing on the group.

A slow, devious grin spread across his face.

"Friends," he said, his voice dropping to a silken purr. "We are standing in the shadow of the prophecy manifested."

He stepped down from the dais, his robes flowing behind him like a cloak of shadows. The crowd parted before him, their faces a mixture of awe and fear. He moved toward the group with the confidence of a man who had never doubted his place in the universe.

Atlas's jaw flexed, his hand instinctively moving toward his weapons. Aurélie's hand found the hilt of Anathema, her steel-gray eyes fixed on the approaching prophet.

Vesta rushed forward, her rainbow hair bouncing with each step. She jumped onto the central dais, her bright violet eyes gleaming with excitement. She swung Mikasi around, the living guitar humming in tune with her heartbeat, and struck a dramatic pose.

"The acoustics in this place must be amazing!" she announced, her voice carrying the enthusiasm of a performer who had found the perfect stage. "Can you hear that? The resonance is—"
