Chapter 687 - Chapter 542.1

The winding spiral staircase descended into the heart of the earth, its steps slick with moisture and worn smooth by centuries of water. The air grew cooler, heavier, the scent of ancient stone was a faint, sweet decay of something that had been sealed away for far too long.

The chamber opened before them, vast and partially submerged. Water lapped at the edges of the stone floor, its surface dark and still. The walls were covered in carvings—intricate patterns that told a story of power and betrayal, of alliances forged and broken, of a gate that had been sealed and a world that had been lost.

Charlie stood in the center of the chamber, his back to them, his face inches from the wall as he read the inscription with intensity, as if he had found the answer to a question he had been asking his entire life. A shattered Poneglyph lay in pieces next to an open slot that clearly housed two others. In the center of the partially submerged chamber, a stone pillar rose from the water, its surface carved with symbols that shifted in the dim light.

Oak whistled low, the sound echoing through the chamber.

Charlie's head whipped around, his eyes blazing with the fire of discovery. He jumped to his feet, his voice rising with barely contained excitement. "This is truly fascinating!"

Tori stood nervously at the edge of the chamber, her eyes darting about with anxious energy. Her ears were flat against her skull, her voice dropping to a nervous whisper. "Are you sure we should be down here?" She shivered, her whiskers twitching. "It feels wrong."

Charlie's voice was sharp with dismissal. "Preposterous!" He threw out a sweeping arm, his gesture encompassing the entire chamber. "The purpose of this place is clear!"

Kaburo's voice was flat, unimpressed. "And what would that be?"

Charlie cleared his throat, his voice rising with the cadence of a lecturer who had found an audience worthy of his brilliance. "Based on the wall depictions, they clearly state: during the peak of the Ancient Kingdom, Quiloa was a vital hub connecting Ushirika's resources to a vast oceanic network. During the Void Century, Quiloa was identified as a key strategic point of the Alliance of Dawn—the pact between Minks, Lunarians, and the Three-Eyed Tribe."

He paused for breath, his eyes scanning the walls with fevered intensity. "It was heavily shelled by an assault that pre-dated the modern Buster Call, utilizing weapons that warped the very geography of the seafloor. Now, it is a largely submerged 'Sunken Empire,' half-swallowed by aggressive mangrove roots and subjected to highly volatile sea tides caused by the unnatural geography of the Stygian Abyss nearby."

His voice dropped, taking on the solemn weight of delivering a truth that had been buried for centuries. "The Maigotsuki Mink Tribe of Ushirika are the sworn, ancestral guardians of Quiloa. They were charged with a sacred rule: 'Until the Dawn returns, guard the shattered stone where the song was silenced.'"

He gestured at the walls, his voice rising with excitement. "This explains the Eopolis Barrier Reef! It also talks about the Ritual of Unbound Dawn—to ensure no one unearths the secrets within before the promised Dawn Bearer arrives. To wait for the day when they must repeat their ancestors' sacred dance to fulfill the ritual that opens the Gate of Lythe." He paused, his eyes narrowing with concentration. "There is a clear connection with Angkor'thal and Ushirika and the Gate of Lythe."

Tora's voice cut through his enthusiasm, flat and practical. "Gate of what?"

Charlie continued, his voice rising with the urgency of the found final piece of a terrible puzzle. "It continues on to say something about guardians and—"

Tala, standing next to the shattered Poneglyph and the empty spaces, interrupted. "Any idea what this is?" She gestured at the broken stone, with flat curiosity.

Oak's voice was soft. "It appears to be the original locations of the relocated Poneglyphs."

Charlie perked up, his eyes blazing with new excitement. "Relocated? Relocated where?"

Tora's replied, "On the other side of the island. Astralux. The Lost Citadel."

Charlie held his chin, his eyes distant as he considered this new information. "I wonder..."

Tora continued, "This must be the lost chamber, then. Where they were relocated from."

---

Everyone's heads turned at the sound of a splash. Galit had jumped into the waist-deep water, moving toward the stone pillar with focused determination, sensing something important.

Kaburo's voice was sharp with suspicion. "What are you doing?"

Galit shook his head, his emerald eyes fixed on the pedestal. "I am not really sure. But there is something about this pedestal."

Tori's nervously asked. "Are you sure that is wise? That water could be—"

But Galit didn't hear her. He closed the gap between himself and the stone pillar, his hands reaching out to touch its surface. His fingers traced the carved symbols with the careful deliberation, listening to something only he could hear.

Charlie cleared his throat, his voice rising with excitement as he just made a connection. "Could it be—"

The sound that erupted was deafening.

An overwhelming resonance of B♭7 filled the chamber, vibrating through the very stones with the force of a scream that had been waiting centuries to be released. Everyone except Galit—who remained focused on the pedestal—covered their ears, buckling over from the sheer intensity of the sound.

Oak's voice was barely audible over the resonance. "What is—"

The ground began to quake and shake. Debris rained down from the ceiling, chunks of ancient stone crashing into the water with the force of a terrible judgment. The pedestal shifted violently, its surface cracking open with a sound like the earth itself was tearing apart.

Galit's eyes went wide. There, concealed and whole in the center of the pillar, lay the Wani Wani no Mi, Model: Ginga.

The water in the chamber began to pull back, retreating from the walls with the force of a tide that had been held back for centuries. The entire structure began to shift, its ancient foundations groaning with the weight of a world that was about to break.

Tora's voice cut through the chaos, sharp and commanding. "Everyone out of here!" She waved her arms, her massive frame moving with surprising speed. "Let's go!"

Oak rushed to Charlie, scooping the scholar up. He bounded up the stairs, his long legs eating up the distance.

Tala scooped up Tori, her aardwolf form moving with the speed of a creature built for quick escapes. "Hold on!"

Kaburo jumped down, his hand closing around Galit's arm just as the younger man reached in and gripped the fruit. The ceiling above them began to crack, a massive chunk of stone threatening to crush them both.

Tora leaped from the side, her massive frame knocking Kaburo and Galit out of the way just as the ceiling collapsed, the stone crashing into the water with a thunderous roar.

She pushed herself up, her dark eyes fixed on the two men sprawled on the floor. Her voice was sharp with concern. "Are you alright?"

Kaburo nodded, his dark hair falling across his face.

Galit coughed, beating his chest with desperation as if choking on something he never expected to swallow. His voice came out in a wheeze. "I swallowed it."

Kaburo's brow furrowed. "Swallowed it?"

Galit nodded, his emerald eyes wide with the shock of what he had just done. "The devil fruit—"

Tora grabbed them by the arms, pulling them to their feet. "No time for that! We need to go before this whole place falls down on us!"

She ran up the quaking steps, her massive frame moving with surprising speed. Galit and Kaburo followed close behind, their feet pounding against the ancient stone as the chamber collapsed behind them.

---

They burst out into the open air, gasping for breath. They immediately covered their eyes as a blinding flash consumed their vision. When all was silent they tentatively dropped their arms and looked up. The sky was clear above them, the sun still shining down on the ruins. But something had changed. Something fundamental had shifted.

Charlie stood at the edge of the islet, his voice rising with wonder. "You have to see this!"

They ran to the edge, looking down. The water had receded, pulling back from the ruins with the force of a tide that had been broken free. And there, laid bare for the first time in centuries, was the Eopolis Barrier Reef.

The ancient structures rose from the seabed like a drowned city rising from its grave. Step pyramids stretched toward the sky, their surfaces covered in carvings that had been hidden beneath the waves for millennia. Causeways connected the structures, their surfaces worn smooth by time but still visible. The architecture was breathtaking—a blend of coastal design and something older, something that predated the Void Century by an age.

Tora blinked, a tear rolling down her cheek. Her voice was barely a whisper. "In all my days, I would have never imagined."

Galit pointed, his emerald eyes fixed on the horizon. "Don't get too excited." He said in flat warning, just seen something impossible.

Their heads snapped up. A massive wave was taking shape on the horizon, a wall of water that stretched from the sky to the sea.

Kaburo swallowed hard, his hand resting on the hilt of Kalamaru. "What are we supposed to do with that?"

Oak stood, with calm certainty, noticing something important. "No wait. It isn't moving."

They looked up as the sky began to darken. Rain began to fall in sheets, a downpour that came from nowhere. And then the islands began to fall.

Massive chunks of land descended from the sky, their surfaces covered in the white clouds and ancient architecture of the Sky Islands. They plummeted toward the earth with the force of a judgment that had been waiting centuries to be delivered.

Tala cursed, her voice sharp with stress. "We need to take cover!"

Tora nodded, with commanding authority. "Get to the mainland!"

Charlie opened his mouth to protest, his voice rising with the indignation of a scholar who had just found the discovery of a lifetime. "But the ruins—"

Galit grabbed his arm, his voice cutting through the scholar's protests. "No time!"

Tora's voice cracked across the chaos like a whip. "NOW!"

They ran for the shore, their feet pounding against the ancient stone as the sky began to fall around them. The rain poured down in sheets, and the islands descended like the judgment of a world that had been waiting centuries to break.
