Chapter 769 - Chapter 585.1

Sanji stands at the railing of the lower deck, his visible eye fixed on the spot where Robin disappeared. His cigarette has burned down to the filter, forgotten. His body is coiled, ready to launch—

"ROBIN!"

He's already moving, his legs tensing for a sky-walk, his mind already calculating the trajectory, the intercept point, the exact angle needed to—

A figure appears in front of him.

Aurélie Nakano Takeko stands with her feet planted, her long silver hair drifting in the heated wind, her steel-gray eyes fixed on Sanji with cold intensity. Her hand rests on the hilt of Anathema—the black blade humming with a sound that makes Sanji's teeth ache.

Sanji staggers backward. His body moves before his mind can catch up—one knee hitting the deck, his hand rising to press against his heart. His eye goes wide, then soft, then... dreamy.

"You are beautiful."

The words escape him like breath. Like prayer. Like inevitability.

Sanji drops his head. His voice comes out muffled against his own chest. "I am your servant. Do as you want with me."

Aurélie's brow furrows. Her grip on Anathema tightens. She studies the man kneeling before her—the legendary Black Leg Sanji, chef of the Straw Hat Pirates, a warrior whose kicks can shatter steel—reduced to a lovestruck fool by nothing more than her presence.

"I see now," she mutters. "This is what he was talking about."

Sanji looks up. His visible eye is wide, pleading, filled with the desperate devotion of a man who has found his reason for living. "How may I serve you?"

Aurélie's expression doesn't change. She glances at him—just once, just briefly—and then dismisses him entirely, her attention shifting to the forward mast of the Sunny.

The dismissal hits Sanji like a physical blow. A chill races up his spine, cold and sharp and wonderful. He shudders, his breath catching in his throat.

"So cold," he whispers. "I am yours to command. I will follow wherever you go."

Aurélie nods—a small, absent gesture, the way one might acknowledge a persistent insect. She unsheathes Anathema in one smooth motion, the black blade singing as it leaves its sheath. The sword glows crimson, sensing... something. Lies? Truth? The distinction has never mattered to Anathema.

She swings.

The arc of Haki that leaves the blade is invisible but felt—a wave of pressure that makes the air itself tremble. It strikes the forward mast with a sound like a thunderclap, and the massive wooden pole—thick as a man's torso, tall as a building—shatters. Wood chips rain down like snow, splashing into the sea, clattering across the deck.

Franky's voice rises above the chaos, raw with outrage and grief.

"SUNNY!"

He charges forward, his massive frame moving with surprising speed, his arms already transforming, his eyes fixed on the woman who dared to harm his masterpiece—

Jean Bart lands in front of him.

The former slave—now a loyal member of the Heart Pirates—plants himself like a mountain, his massive frame blocking Franky's path. In his hands, he holds a wrench the size of a small tree, the metal gleaming with the promise of violence.

Franky skids to a stop. His eyes narrow, recognition flickering across his features.

"Wait... aren't you Traffy's crew?"

Jean Bart doesn't answer. He lets the ends of the massive wrench rise and fall in his palm, the motion casual, almost lazy. He glances at Clione beside him—a thin, nervous-looking man with a long face—and nods once.

"I got this," Jean Bart rumbles. "You know what to do."

Clione nods. He races toward the lower decks, his footsteps echoing against the wood.

Franky's arm transforms, the cannon emerging from his forearm with a mechanical whir. "Hey! Where do you think you're going?!"

He points his arm at Clione's retreating back. "STRONG RIGHT!"

The cannonball launches—but Jean Bart intercepts it, swinging his massive wrench in a perfect arc that deflects the projectile into the sea. The splash is swallowed by the chaos.

Franky stares at him. His expression shifts—confusion, hurt, then something harder.

"What gives?! I thought we were friends!"

Jean Bart's jaw tightens. His eyes carry something that might be regret, might be sorrow, might be nothing at all.

"Not anymore."

Franky's face contorts. He rolls his shoulders, his massive frame settling into a fighting stance. His voice comes out low, almost sad.

"Well... if it's like that... we'll fight like men!"

---

Yamato hears Nami yelling—the particular pitch of frustration that means something has gone wrong in a way that involves Nami's personal space being violated. She pivots, club rising, ready to charge to her nakama's aid—

A figure appears in her path.

Atlas Acuta stands with his hands in his pockets, his rust-red fur gleaming in the firelight, his blue sapphire eyes fixed on Yamato with an expression of lazy confidence. The scar across his left cheek catches the light. His lynx-like ears twitch.

Yamato doesn't stop.

She charges—full speed, club swinging, her massive frame moving with the momentum of a runaway train. Atlas's eyes widen. He shifts—fast, faster than should be possible—and when Yamato's club comes down, he's already in his Sulong form.

His fur turns pure white. His eyes burn blood-red. His body grows—30%, 40%, 50% larger—his mane wild, his tail thrashing, electric sparks dancing across his skin. Blue-white lightning crackles around him, arcing from his claws to the deck and back.

He punches.

The blow catches Yamato mid-charge—too much momentum to stop, too much speed to dodge. The Electro-infused fist connects with her face, and the force of it sends her spinning through the air. She crashes onto the deck, wood splintering beneath her, her club clattering away.

For a moment, she lies still.

Then she rises.

Atlas watches her, his red eyes gleaming. He cracks his knuckles—slowly, deliberately, each pop echoing across the deck.

"You're tough."

Yamato plants her feet. She points her club at him, her Oni blood boiling, her fangs bared in a grin that promises violence.

"Get out of my way!"

Atlas shakes his head. His nub swishes behind him, sparks trailing from their tips. His voice carries the particular smugness of someone who has already decided how this fight will end.

"Make me."

Yamato's grin widens. "Okay then!"

She charges.

---

Brook, Usopp, and Chopper run through the smoke, their lungs burning, their eyes watering, their legs pumping with the desperate energy of prey fleeing a predator. The explosions have stopped chasing them directly, but the fire has spread, and the smoke is thick enough to choke on.

Chopper trips.

His small body hits the deck hard, his hooves scrabbling against the wood, his breath coming in panicked gasps. He looks up, eyes wide, and sees his nakama disappearing into the smoke ahead.

"Wait! Don't leave me!"

Usopp looks over his shoulder. His long nose twitches. His eyes widen.

"CHOPPER!"

Ember emerges from the smoke behind the fallen reindeer, her mismatched eyes fixed on her prey, her lips peeled back in a grin that has nothing to do with joy. The Helltide slingshot rises, a sparkler round already loaded, already glowing with destructive potential.

Chopper freezes.

Usopp's hand moves before his brain can catch up. Black Kabuto appears in his grip, the massive slingshot already drawn back, already loaded with a specially prepared round.

"OH NO YOU DON'T!"

He releases.

"FIRE BALL STAR!"

The projectile ignites as it leaves the pouch—a sphere of concentrated flame that streaks through the air like a comet. It intercepts Ember's sparkler round mid-flight, and the two explosions merge into one, a blossom of fire that illuminates the deck in stark white.

Ember looks up. Her eyes find Usopp's through the smoke, through the fire, through the chaos.

Usopp's blood runs cold.

"Oh no... she found me..."

Ember's cackle echoes across the deck—high, manic, delighted. She turns toward Usopp, her slingshot rifle already reloading, her body already coiling for the chase.

"Look, Josiah! We have a new game to play!"

Usopp screeches. He turns and runs—legs pumping, arms flailing, his voice rising in a continuous stream of terror.

"WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME?!"

Ember gives chase, her laughter trailing behind her like smoke.

Chopper lies on the deck, tears streaming down his face, his body trembling with fear and guilt and grief.

"NO! Don't leave me!"

A figure appears running towards him—tall, skeletal, radiating the particular dignity of someone who has been dead for decades and has decided to make it everyone's problem.

"I am coming for you, Chopper!"

Brook reaches down, his bony fingers extending toward the fallen reindeer—

A shadow falls over him.

Bō-Zak Kaminosukei descends from the sky like judgment incarnate. His body has shifted—not fully, but enough. Wings sprout from his shoulders, vast and dark, feathers shimmering with an iridescence that has no place in the natural world. His eyes glow with molten gold. His talons—sharp, curved, designed for gripping prey—close around Brook's arms.

Brook has time for one indignant screech before he is lifted from the deck, pulled into the air, carried away into the gray.

"Oh no! I am being carried off! Someone save me! I am being carried off!"

His voice fades into the fog, swallowed by the distance.

Chopper stares at the empty space where Brook was. His tears flow faster, his sobs growing louder, his small body shaking with the force of his grief.

"BROOK! NO!"

Three shadows materialize around him.

Chopper looks up. His tear-blurred vision makes out shapes—tall, familiar, wrong. He sniffles, his nose twitching.

"What...?"

He blinks. Sniffs again. His eyes widen.

"Wait a minute..."

He pushes himself up. Wipes his nose with his forearm. Studies the figures standing over him—the polar bear in the jumpsuit, the man with a penguin hat, the man with the hat and the unsettling grin.

"I know you."

Bepo steps out of the shadows, his massive frame somehow gentle, his expression carrying the particular awkwardness of someone who has been caught doing something they shouldn't.

"Hey, Chopper."

Chopper jolts. His tears stop. His body moves before his brain can catch up—launching himself at Bepo, wrapping his small arms around the bear's neck, burying his face in the familiar fur.

"It's you! I was so scared! I thought..."

He pauses. His grip loosens. He pulls back, looking up at Bepo's face, then around at the chaos—the fires, the explosions, the sounds of battle echoing from every direction.

He looks back at Bepo.

"Hey, wait!"

He pushes himself away, landing on the deck, his expression shifting from relief to confusion to dawning horror.

"Why are you attacking us?!"

Bepo jolts. His ears flatten against his head. He looks away, his massive body somehow managing to convey guilt.

"Well, you see..."

Penguin interrupts, his voice carrying the particular strain of someone who has been dreading this exact conversation.

"This is awkward. We can't tell you!"

Shachi nods, his grin firmly in place despite the circumstances. "Yeah, these are Captain's orders."

Chopper's eyes bulge. His body vibrates with outrage.

"You mean Traffy told you to?!"

The forward mast shatters behind him—Aurélie's Haki arc finally reaching its target. Wood chips rain down like snow, and Chopper's outrage transforms into something closer to panic.

"NO!"

He looks at Bepo, Penguin, Shachi—his friends, his fellow pirates, the people who shared meals with him, who laughed with him, who fought beside him.

"I won't let you destroy the Sunny!"

Bepo's ears drop further. His voice comes out small, miserable.

"Sorry."

Chopper's jaw tightens. His body shifts—fur rippling, limbs reshaping, muscles expanding. Kung Fu Point. His small form becomes stocky, powerful, built for combat.

"No! Stop this now!"

Penguin shakes his head. His expression carries genuine regret.

"Sorry, we can't do that."

Chopper's fists clench. His voice rises, raw with emotion.

"Well, I won't let you hurt the ship!"

He charges.

Bepo meets him.

"Hai-ya!"

The two collide—reindeer against polar bear, kung fu against karate, friend against friend. The deck shakes beneath them, wood splintering under the force of their exchange.

Penguin and Shachi exchange a glance. Penguin jerks his head toward the lower decks.

"We're going to help Clione."

Bepo doesn't reply. He's too busy blocking Chopper's strikes, too busy dodging, too busy trying not to hurt his friend while also not letting his friend hurt him.

The battle continues.

---

The Sunny burns.

The crew fights.

And above it all, lost in the gray, a laugh echoes—deviant, delighted, hungry.

The silhouettes have descended.

The world has begun to break.

And somewhere in the fog, Monkey D. Luffy is still laughing.
