Chapter 768 - Chapter 585

The silhouettes stand motionless against the gray, fifteen figures carved from shadow and malice. The crew of the Thousand Sunny stands tense, weapons drawn, every eye fixed on the railings where these intruders have materialized like nightmares given form.

Then one of them moves.

The tallest silhouette—a figure with an impossibly long neck that curves in an S-shape—dissolves. Not falls, not jumps. Sinks. His body melts through the railing like water through sand, leaving nothing behind but a faint ripple in the wood.

Jinbe's massive hands tighten on the wheel. His blue skin gleams with sweat despite the cold. "Are you with her?"

Zoro's head snaps toward the helm, his single eye narrowing. His grip on Enma's hilt turns his knuckles white. "Who are you talking about, Jinbe?"

Jinbe opens his mouth to answer. His head swivels over his shoulder, lips parting, words forming—

The deck beneath his feet explodes.

Not with fire. Not with force. With teeth.

Massive jaws—serpentine, scaled, dripping with something black and viscous—erupt from the wood itself. They snap shut around Jinbe's legs, his torso, his shoulders. The fish-man has time for one strangled cry before the jaws yank downward, dragging him through the deck like a hooked fish pulled beneath the surface.

"JINBE!"

Zoro is already moving, his boots thudding against the wood, his hand extended toward the spot where his nakama vanished. He reaches the helm. The wheel still spins from Jinbe's grip. The deck shows no hole, no crack, no evidence that anything just happened.

Jinbe is simply... gone.

BOOM.

The first explosion rips through the aft section of the deck. Wood shards spray outward like shrapnel from a grenade. A second blast follows—closer this time, close enough to rattle Zoro's teeth in his skull. A third. A fourth.

Smoke billows across the Sunny, thick and acrid, stinking of sulfur and burning tar. Flames lick upward from a dozen different spots, painting the gray fog in shades of orange and hellish red.

A silhouette leaps through the smoke—small, wiry, moving with the erratic energy of a firecracker. Ember. Her neon-pink space buns bounce as she lands on the railing, her mismatched eyes wild with delight. The Helltide slingshot rifle rests against her shoulder, still smoking from its last shot.

"Pretty lights! Pretty lights!" She fires another round into the deck, cackling as the sparkler round detonates in a shower of white-hot sparks. "Look, Josiah! They dance!"

Chopper, Brook, and Usopp sprint across the deck, hands flailing above their heads, voices raised in a chorus of pure panic.

"NOT THE FACE! NOT THE FACE!" Usopp shrieks.

"MY AFRO! I ONLY HAVE ONE I DON'T WANT IT TO BURN! YOHOHOHO—wait, that's not funny!" Brook's skeleton legs pump furiously.

"WHY IS EVERYTHING EXPLODING?!" Chopper wails.

Zoro plants his feet, his body coiling like a spring. He's about to launch himself at Ember—about to end this chaos before it spreads—

A shadow falls over him.

Kaburo Gusaki materializes from the smoke like a predator stepping out of a nightmare. His low ponytail sways in the heated air. The scar across his face catches the firelight, twisting his features into something carved from stone and suffering. Kalamaru rests in his hands—the ōdachi's blade dark as obsidian, humming with a sound that makes Zoro's teeth ache.

The blade stops an inch from Zoro's throat.

Zoro's eye slides sideways. He doesn't flinch. Doesn't step back. His body remains coiled, ready, his hand still wrapped around Enma's hilt.

The deck continues to burn around them. Explosions rock the ship in steady rhythm, a percussion section for the symphony of destruction. Ember's laughter rises above it all, high and manic.

Kaburo's voice cuts through the noise like a blade through silk. Low. Measured. Devoid of anything resembling warmth. "My brother will rest peacefully upon your death."

Zoro's eye narrows. His jaw tightens. "Revenge, then?"

Kaburo tilts his head—a predator sizing up prey, calculating the exact angle of attack. "Your death is my penance."

Zoro's lips curl into something that might be a smile on a less terrifying face. He releases Enma's hilt, letting his hand fall to his side. His posture shifts—still coiled, still ready, but somehow looser. Almost... relaxed.

"You still have time to walk away."

Kaburo's expression doesn't change. His grip on Kalamaru doesn't waver. "I will walk away when you have fallen to your death."

The words hang between them like a challenge. Like a prayer. Like a promise.

Zoro's smirk widens. His hand moves—fast, faster than most eyes can track—and suddenly all three of his blades are drawn. Wado Ichimonji gleams white in his teeth. Sandai Kitetsu and Enma are held ready in each hand. The firelight dances along their edges like it's afraid to touch them.

"You assume that I will die so easily?"

Kaburo's eyes narrow. His nostrils flare. Something shifts in his expression—something that might be respect, or might be hunger. He can sense it. The Haki radiating from Zoro is like heat from a forge. The weight of a man who has walked through hell and come out the other side carrying the souls of the fallen.

Kaburo's grip on Kalamaru tightens.

The blade answers.

Three serpentine heads erupt from the steel—vast, scaled, dripping with something that hisses and smokes where it touches the deck. The Head of Decay gnashes its teeth, corrosive mist curling from its jaws. The Head of Judgment fixes its eyes on Zoro, and the air itself vibrating with a frequency that makes thoughts scatter like startled birds. The Head of Rebirth hisses, its tongue tasting the air, hungry for organic matter to consume.

The heads coil around Kaburo like living armor, their scales gleaming with iridescent decay, their presence pressing down on the deck like the weight of the ocean itself.

Zoro's grin becomes something feral. Something eager.

"Good." He rolls his shoulders, settling into his stance. "At least this won't be boring."

---

Nami stands on the balcony overlooking the main deck, her knuckles white around the Clima-Tact. The explosions below paint her face in shifting shades of orange and black. Robin stands beside her, arms crossed, her dark eyes tracking the chaos with the analytical calm of someone who has survived far worse.

When the deck lights up—a particularly close blast that sends flames licking up toward the railing—Nami makes her decision.

"ZEUS!"

The cloud streams from the Clima-Tact with a pop of displaced air, his small form crackling with barely contained electricity. His cloud face splits into a grin.

"Hey, Nami! What is—"

"I need you to put those fires out." Nami points at the inferno spreading across the deck. Her voice carries the particular urgency of someone who has watched their home catch fire more than once.

Zeus's grin widens. "Okay! But I'm gonna need some snacks."

Nami's jaw tightens. Of course. Of course the sentient cloud wants payment. She grips the Clima-tact, fingers tightening with the familiar motion—

A golden disk appears beside Zeus.

Nami's hand freezes. Her eyes go wide.

Sanza Kaplan Figarland stands on a glowing floating platform, his small tiger body looking over the edge. His shoulders are tense, his eyes trying to track as much as they can in the chaos. His three tails flick back and forth as he crouches down, looking over the edge of the floating, golden disk.

And riding on his back—clinging to his shoulders like a particularly enthusiastic backpack—is Jelly "Giggles" Squish.

The jellyfish-human hybrid's translucent blue body wobbles with barely contained excitement. His massive, starry-eyed pupils fix on the crackling end of Nami's Clima-Tact with an expression of pure, uncomplicated wonder.

"Bloop... shiny..."

Nami blinks. Her brain, which has been running at combat speed for the past several minutes, screeches to a halt. She stares at the two figures—one a small, white three tailed tiger cub, the other a bouncing, blue jellyfish creature—and for a moment, she has absolutely no idea what to do.

"What are you—"

The words die in her throat.

She snaps back to herself. The fires are still burning. The crew is still fighting. She doesn't have time for confusion.

She releases the weather eggs.

The charged spheres flow upward in a stream, crackling with contained lightning, each one a perfect snack-sized morsel of atmospheric energy. Zeus's eyes go wide with hunger.

"SNACK TIME!"

Jelly's entire body vibrates.

"BLOOP SNACKS!"

The jellyfish creature launches himself off Sanza's back with the reckless enthusiasm of a puppy chasing a ball. His mouth opens—wider than should be physically possible for something with a face—and he intercepts the stream of weather eggs mid-flight.

Nami watches in disbelief as Jelly swallows egg after egg, his translucent body filling with crackling energy. The weather eggs fizz and pop inside him, little bursts of lightning dancing through his gelatinous form before fading into nothing. His body glows briefly with each one, a soft blue pulse that makes him look like a living lantern.

Then his open mouth lands on the end of the Clima-Tact.

Nami blinks.

She blinks again.

"Hey!" Zeus's voice cracks with outrage. "Those are my snacks!"

Nami shakes the Clima-Tact—violently, desperately—trying to dislodge the jellyfish creature that has attached himself to her weapon like a limpet to a rock. Jelly's body wobbles with each shake, his eyes spinning in lazy circles, but his mouth remains firmly clamped around the staff.

"Get off!" Nami snarls. "Get off!"

Jelly makes a happy gurgling sound around the Clima-Tact.

Zeus's face contorts with fury. He opens his mouth, electricity crackling between his teeth, and fires a bolt directly at Jelly's head.

The lightning passes through the jellyfish's translucent body, making him glow brighter for a moment before the energy fades. Jelly burps. A small puff of smoke escapes his lips.

Zeus's eye twitches.

Nami's eye twitches.

Sanza, meanwhile, has dropped from his golden disk and shifted into his hybrid form—white fur rippling across his skin, claws extending from his fingertips, three tails swishing behind him. He holds a practice bamboo sword in both hands, his expression set in the grim determination of a child who has decided to play soldier.

Robin leans over the railing, her lips curving into a smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes. "And what are you going to do?"

Sanza's brow furrows. He plants his feet, raises the bamboo sword, and points it at Nami with all the gravitas of a general commanding an army.

"I am going to disarm the girl with the orange hair."

Robin's grin widens. "Is that so."

Sanza doesn't dignify her with a response. He charges—small legs pumping, bamboo sword swinging, white fur gleaming in the firelight—straight toward Nami, who is still distracted by the jellyfish attached to her weapon and the thundercloud trying to electrocute it.

He makes it three steps before a shadow falls over him.

The Hatzegopteryx descends like a thunderbolt from the gray sky above. Gosan's massive wingspan—easily ten meters across—blots out the fog, blots out the fire, blots out everything but the terrifying majesty of an apex predator from a forgotten age. His beak, thick as a stone pillar, opens to reveal a maw that could swallow a man whole.

Jannali Bandler stands atop the creature's back, her afro bouncing with the motion, her headscarf firmly in place covering her third eye, her golden hoop earrings glinting in the firelight. Her hands gripping her boomerangs. Her posture is relaxed, almost casual.

Gosan screeches—a sound that cuts through the chaos, chilling, deafening —and his talons close around Robin's arms.

Robin has time for one surprised "Oh my" before she is yanked off the ship, pulled into the air, carried away into the gray.

"Sorry, love," Jannali calls down, her accent stretching the vowels. "But that won't do. You're dealing with me now."

Robin's voice drifts back through the fog, calm despite her situation. "How terribly inconvenient."
