The court was packed. Ministers sat in white, faces hung like sacked oranges. The air was cold, but the environment felt heavy. The death of the prince and his fiancée couldn't be understood.
Some versions said they were okay, that they looked good together.
Others said it was a calculated act, and a few mentioned spirituality. But the truth remained: no one could be exempted, and no suspicion could be overlooked. Hence, everyone was invited.
As the council sat waiting for the queen, the doors opened, and the guests began arriving one after the other. First were the attendants of Adela and Edmon, those who had been present when the deed occurred. Then came the guards stationed outside and around their chamber.
"I think everyone is here," a minister voiced out.
"No," another quickly objected. "The witch is yet to arrive. We all know she is a close confidante of the queen, and I do see reason for her to have been involved."
The others nodded.
