As Azula predicted, Fire Lord Ozai was very pleased.
Not only had they forced Jeong Jeong into a humiliating retreat, they had also captured the entire team he brought to support the rebels.
This result was far more impressive than simply arresting a minor figure like Devon.
Before defecting, Jeong Jeong had been one of the Fire Nation's undisputed Firebending Masters—a high-ranking Navy Admiral whose prestige was known across the country.
After his defection, he became a top-tier fugitive whose movements were unpredictable, a long-term thorn in Ozai's side.
And someone like that had been beaten back by his own daughter. Ozai couldn't help but feel satisfied.
The only regret was that Azula hadn't managed to kill Jeong Jeong outright.
He wondered if another opportunity like that would ever appear again. Still, even the most demanding father couldn't realistically expect a girl not yet twelve years old to slay an old Firebending Master.
Azula's performance was already perfect in his eyes.
Her strength wasn't fully developed yet, but Ozai firmly believed that in a few more years, Azula would become his greatest weapon.
He didn't forget about Kahn either. This time, it was Kahn and Azula together who had repelled Jeong Jeong.
Kahn's talent and strength were no worse than Azula's. As Iroh's direct disciple, he truly lived up to the name.
Even Ozai had to admit Iroh had an eye for talent.
And when he thought about the fact that Iroh's disciple was now assisting him, and even suppressing Iroh's potential supporters, Ozai felt even more satisfied.
He also caught wind of certain rumors among the palace staff—rumors that Azula treated Kahn differently from an ordinary subordinate, with hints of favoritism.
Some even speculated that Azula seemed to harbor… other feelings for him.
That was amusing.
Ozai didn't stop the gossip nor question Azula. He tacitly allowed it.
In truth, he welcomed the idea.
If the two of them truly ended up together, Kahn would be permanently bound to Ozai's side with no room for betrayal.
And judging from both of their talents, if they matured smoothly, they would become the strongest right and left hand he could ask for.
If they were a few years older, Ozai wouldn't have hesitated to arrange their engagement—just like what happened with him and Ursa.
And the thought that both possessed such terrifying talent, especially in Firebending…
If they had children someday, who knew what kind of monster prodigy would be born? Just imagining it made Ozai's mind race.
But the moment he thought of Ursa, his expression darkened, the emotions in his eyes impossible to decipher.
When Azula and Kahn returned to the city, the common people noticed immediately.
The story of them encountering Jeong Jeong's ambush but emerging victorious spread like wildfire.
And unlike before, this time the tale didn't only feature Azula—Kahn was finally mentioned too.
Though, unsurprisingly, the spotlight still leaned heavily toward Azula.
Compared to a low-profile rebel like Devon, defeating a nationally famous figure like Jeong Jeong was far more dramatic. Devon's death didn't interest anyone.
Ozai did question Azula about Devon's secret connection.
Azula omitted any mention of the White Lotus, but everything else she reported truthfully. Ozai didn't grow suspicious.
However, when he learned from her that there were still Iroh supporters hiding within the military, Ozai immediately took note.
A purge was inevitable.
Kahn could only silently hope those people survived.
Later, Kahn entered the Spirit World to speak with Iroh, updating him on the entire incident.
When he heard that Jeong Jeong had been forced to retreat by two children—and that Kahn still hadn't used his full strength—Iroh was genuinely stunned.
"I didn't expect you two to have grown this much," Iroh sighed. "It makes an old man like me feel my age."
Kahn rolled his eyes.
"You know my abilities naturally counter Firebenders. It's not real strength at all. Are you trying to praise me to death?"
"No," Iroh said firmly. "Strength varies by the person, but with your current ability, you're already top-tier among all benders in the world. Don't belittle yourself."
Kahn blinked, stunned.
"…Is that so?"
He wasn't used to such direct praise.
Kahn continued discussing the situation. Iroh confirmed that Jeong Jeong was indeed a White Lotus Elder, just like himself.
Before Jeong Jeong defected, the two often exchanged information. Iroh had even told Jeong Jeong about Kahn.
But ever since Jeong Jeong began wandering the world, communication had become rare.
As for the rescue mission, Iroh hadn't known anything about it. It must have been Jeong Jeong's side who initiated it.
Regarding the captured White Lotus members, they wouldn't be executed.
They would be scattered and forced into labor in different places, similar to Lidon's men.
Later, White Lotus agents would sneak in, contact them, and ensure they survived until the next uprising.
As for Devon, Iroh had no memory of him at all. He never imagined such a person had once served under him.
But he was relieved Kahn had stopped Devon's infiltration—otherwise the White Lotus would've been housing a living bomb.
Iroh also said he would find a way to reach Jeong Jeong and explain everything to avoid the absurd tragedy of White Lotus allies fighting each other by mistake.
After some thought, Kahn finally asked:
"How many White Lotus Elders are there? Are they all from the Fire Nation?"
If so, the Fire Nation was truly having a rough time.
"You'll find out when the time comes," Iroh replied with a mysterious smile.
Typical riddle-teller behavior.
Kahn sighed.
Iroh acted cryptic, Jeong Jeong was an abstract linguist—and both were Elders. Was this the recruitment criteria?
The image of the White Lotus in Kahn's mind grew increasingly bizarre.
Before leaving, Kahn hesitated, then said:
"By the way… Uncle Iroh, I've decided to seek instruction in Spiritbending from Guru Pathik."
"You've made up your mind? Good," Iroh said warmly. "Don't worry, the Guru really isn't a peeping tom."
He thought Kahn was still hung up on the privacy issue and smiled reassuringly.
Kahn opened his mouth, wanting to explain, but in the end chose silence.
I'm afraid of losing you, my golden leg!
