Charles glanced away before answering. "She hasn't been feeling well since the prep session."
"Why didn't you tell me before now?"
"I thought she'd get better in time to manage, but it only got worse."
"You should have replaced her with another model from your agency!" Selina snapped.
"They're busy with their own schedules. Everything must work in order no matter what," Charles replied smoothly.
Before Selina could say another word, he turned away.
Then, the voice of the MC vibrated through the speakers hanging from the ceiling.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the D-day of the Country C Fashion Show Gala. Let's call on slot number one!"
The room echoed with a round of applause, making the air backstage feel suffocating to Selina.
"I can't believe this. If she couldn't make it, why didn't he find a replacement? Charles has always been fickle," Annabelle lamented, frowning deeply. "What are we going to do? The event has already begun!"
