Volume 1 Chapter 268: Suspicious Lily!
"You're coming back tomorrow?"
"Yeah… I think so?"
"Be careful, alright? Did you pack your spray?"
"Yup, got it!"
It was Friday evening, and after their last class, Ning Chu and Wen Yang had walked together to the girls' dormitory gate.
Ning Chu was carrying a change of clothes—this was her first time staying over at another girl's house, and honestly, she was a little nervous.
Still, since she was a girl now, hanging out and bonding with other girls was something she couldn't avoid forever.
"If any girls try to hit on you while I'm gone, you better tell me."
"I will, don't worry."
"I mean it. You have to tell me!"
What she was really worried about was a random "punishment scenario" popping up and embarrassing her in front of Lily's parents.
Granted, Lily was a succubus, so maybe her parents were more open-minded about certain… sudden urges.
But even if they understood, just imagining that kind of shameful situation made Ning Chu want to dig a hole and hide in it.
"I heard from Xinya that Lily lives in a freaking mansion or something?"
"Pfft, don't listen to her nonsense…"
Ning Chu rolled her eyes. "Xinya totally said that just to mess with Lily. Her family's probably well-off, sure, but a manor? Come on."
"Oh right—lemme send you 50 yuan first. Use it for food or whatever the next two days."
She suddenly remembered that Wen Yang's money was still in her account, and quickly pulled out her phone to transfer the money.
"Fifty yuan is definitely enough for food, don't waste it."
"That's… kind of a lot..."
Wen Yang's money is all with her, so it's hard for Wen Yang to notice when she spends money on him.
This would be the last month she'd be "supporting her man with her brother's cash"!
Next month, her novel would finally be published for money!
And judging by how it was performing now… it might even earn more than she expected.
This could turn out to be her most successful novel yet!
While she was still daydreaming about her bright author future, two familiar figures appeared at the dorm entrance.
Yan Xinya was hauling a bulky blanket bundle, and Lily was dragging two large suitcases, it's like they were moving houses.
"Whoa, that's a lot of stuff!"
Yeah, girls always had tons of things, but to pack two whole suitcases just for rotating out summer clothes and bedding?
There had to be some stuff in there that couldn't be shown in public…
Ning Chu hurried forward to help, taking one of Lily's suitcases.
"So how are we getting there? High-speed rail?"
"Taxi."
"Oh, then it must be pretty close."
"About an hour."
Well, the school was already on the outskirts of the city, so a one-hour cab ride was probably enough to hit the neighboring city.
"Wen Yang! We're off!"
"Okay, take care!"
Wen Yang watched the three girls walk off, stretching lazily before turning to head back to his rental apartment.
At the very least, he needed to clean up once a week—otherwise the place would be a disaster.
Meanwhile, the three girls squeezed into the backseat of their ride-share. Ning Chu stared out the window but couldn't help her curiosity.
"So, Lily… what's your place really like?"
"An apartment in a housing complex."
"Oh~"
Ning Chu figured Lily's family had to be fairly well-off.
After all, the toys she linked to her were always fancy—at least 70% more expensive than average, so it means they must be big-name brands.
"Princess Lily totally lives in some big manor~"
Yan Xinya joked as she reached out to pinch Lily's cheek.
But Lily tilted her head back to avoid it, and the car was so cramped she ended up practically lying across Ning Chu's lap.
"Quit messing around."
Lily's expression was as flat as always as she gently shut her down.
"Okay, fine~" Xinya pouted.
"Are your parents easy to get along with? I'm kinda nervous."
"They're not home."
"Huh?"
"They both work out of town."
"Ehhh~ You're a left-behind child?"
"…"
Ning Chu noticed that Lily was talking more than usual.
It's probably because they were only surrounded by friends…
Outside the car window, the scenery grew bleak and quiet. Hills rose and fell on both sides of the road, and the vehicle sped through tunnel after tunnel.
The sky gradually darkened, and Yan Xinya was starting to doze off, head drooping sleepily onto Lily's shoulder.
Lily, ever the ice queen, sat stiffly in place, her face expressionless as she stared at her phone screen.
Ning Chu, meanwhile, just gazed out the window in silence, watching the hills and ridges slowly fade away.
Eventually, houses and signs of civilization started appearing on both sides of the road.
"Are we almost there?"
"Yeah."
About ten minutes later, the ride-share pulled up to the gate of a residential complex on the city's edge.
As soon as they stepped out, Yan Xinya instantly perked up again like a husky let off its leash—dragging her suitcase around and bouncing in excitement.
Ning Chu glanced around curiously at the rather sparse surroundings, eyeing the towering 40-plus-story apartment buildings nearby.
"Doesn't seem like many people live here..."
The area was practically deserted. A few cars drove past now and then, but there weren't any pedestrians in sight.
Even the trees lining the road were tiny, leafless sticks—clearly just planted recently.
This had to be a newly developed district; no wonder the infrastructure looked half-finished.
She had kind of expected a villa… maybe even a full-on manor.
Even though Ning Chu never really believed Yan Xinya's teasing about Lily living in a mansion, she had secretly held on to a sliver of hope.
But once they actually arrived at Lily's apartment…
Yeah. Her family was definitely loaded.
One elevator, one apartment per floor. Direct elevator access into the unit.
"Whoa, what the hell!"
The moment they stepped into the elevator, Ning Chu couldn't hold back her awe.
"You don't have to take your shoes off."
"Okay!"
She darted through the entryway, taking a quick sweep of the spacious, brightly lit living room. Her eyes sparkled with excitement.
"How big is this place?"
"Two, three hundred square meters?" Lily replied uncertainly.
Yan Xinya followed Ning Chu in and immediately began tearing around the place like a kid in a candy store.
"Help me clean up," Lily pointed toward her bedroom. "Just the bedroom."
"Got it."
Ning Chu looked around with curiosity… when suddenly, something on the coffee table caught her attention:
A Cthulhu tentacle ornament.
"Whoa, Lily! You like Lovecraftian mythology too?"
Following her gaze, Lily's face visibly twitched.
"This tentacle looks awesome!" Ning Chu rushed over and picked it up.
It was a standalone octopus-like tentacle, sleek and detailed, covered in dozens of tiny suckers.
It even felt satisfyingly squishy in her hand. A super well-made figure.
Ning Chu loved quirky little trinkets like this.
"Where'd you get this? It's so cool!" she asked, excited.
"..."
"The base is a suction cup too, huh~" Ning Chu toyed with it for a moment, then looked up.
"Why are you blushing?"
Lily mumbled something under her breath, turning away quickly and scurrying toward her bedroom.
"You girls actually like this kind of stuff?" Yan Xinya came over to peek.
"Octopus tentacles… they're tasty, I guess."
Ning Chu stuffed the tentacle figure into the wolf girl's hands and hurried after Lily.
But Lily seemed even more flustered now, practically bolting into the room like she was fleeing.
When Ning Chu followed her in, she caught sight of Lily hastily shoving another tentacle-shaped object into her bedside drawer.
"If I wanted one, I could buy it myself, you know."
She rolled her eyes at Lily's frantic movements.
"..."
"How much was it?"
"D-depends on the size… a few hundred?"
But as she watched the rare blush spreading across Lily's normally stoic face—and the guilty panic in her body language—Ning Chu started to suspect something.
Lily wasn't usually stingy.
She had even gifted her some pricey makeup samples before, and let her borrow jackets without a second thought.
Plus, Lily was the type who could keep a straight face even while in heat.
So why was she red-faced and fidgeting now?
