Volume 2 Chapter 6 / Chapter 287: Terrible Dorms
With her mother's departure, Ning Chu's identity issue was finally resolved.
She even received her new ID card from her mom.
She kept staring at the "Female" printed under the gender section, flipping the card over and over, feeling both ridiculous and a little sad.
Now, both biologically and socially, she was a full-fledged woman.
Instinctively, she touched her ears, casually controlled the tail hidden under her skirt to swish slightly, and pictured the heart-shaped silver tattoo on her lower belly.
She pressed her lips together.
She was also now a full-fledged succubus.
"Focus."
Wen Yang, sitting beside her, noticed her distraction and reminded her.
"Oh, right."
With finals approaching, she had specifically asked Wen Yang to help her study seriously—she didn't want to end up with grades worse than a dog's.
The school was pretty lax about things like sneaking off-campus, but when it came to cheating on exams, they were notoriously strict. On the first floor of the teaching building, a "Wall of Shame" listed the names of students caught cheating last semester.
Anyone caught would be socially dead for at least a whole semester—and it would go on their record too.
Just as the afternoon class was about to end, their counselor—the one everyone called "Old Witch"—appeared outside the classroom and gave a light knock on the door.
The teacher glanced over and said, "That's it for today."
The counselor took over the remaining few minutes and walked up to the podium. "Tonight, there's a New Year's Gala and Welcome Party on the sports field—"
Technically, New Year's had already passed a few days ago. The holiday was over.
Yan Xinya perked up, ears practically twitching as she excitedly said to Ning Chu, "Lin Li has a performance tonight! She's dancing!"
"What kind of dance can a vixen even do..."
Ning Chu muttered, but immediately noticed the counselor's eyes lingering on her.
She looked up and met her gaze, body tensing.
God knows what kind of weird misunderstanding the counselor might have about her—like maybe thinking she'd gone to Thailand for surgery or something? Hopefully, her mom had explained everything clearly.
"The teaching building will stay open until 10 p.m. during finals..."
The counselor only gave a few simple notices before leaving. She seemed to be in charge of four classes and was clearly running herself ragged.
"Class is over~"
Ning Chu stretched lazily, but then heard Zhang Shaoqing pop his head in and ask, "You two watching the show tonight? Or are you gonna go back and, you know, get all lovey-dovey?"
"We'll go watch. I'll head back to the dorm first."
If she didn't go back now, she might not get another chance.
She turned and asked, "Shaoqing, how's the matchmaking thing going?"
"Don't even bring it up. As soon as break starts, I'm running away from home." Zhang Shaoqing hooked an arm around Wang Jie's neck, puffing up his chest. "I'm spending New Year's at Wang Jie's house! Let's see if that pisses my mom off!"
"So childish~"
"You've got a good relationship with your mom, you wouldn't understand." Zhang Shaoqing had seen Ning Chu joking around with her mom in the hallway earlier and sighed. "I'm so jealous..."
"What's there to be jealous of..."
Ning Chu mumbled as she followed behind Wen Yang out of the classroom.
Back in middle school, she and her mom didn't get along very well either. Like most teens, she'd gone through a rebellious phase—hated everything, resented her mom's rules.
And then... there was no "then."
They'd had a big fight. She stormed out, slamming the door behind her. And by the time she heard any news of her mom again, it was already too late to regret it.
One of the greatest blessings in life is losing something and getting it back. So when Ning Chu found out she was in a parallel world where her mom hadn't died, all her bitterness—about becoming a girl, or even a succubus—started to fade. She could accept the trade-offs.
So what if she lost her little buddy of over twenty years?
So what if she'd fully "gone girly"?
So what if her future included becoming a literal milk-filled dumpling? …Okay, maybe let's not go that far.
"Whoa! You haven't been back to the dorm in ages, have you?"
As they walked along the familiar path, Zhang Shaoqing hollered, "There's no way you're getting in through the front gate while dressed like that. If you manage it, I'll take your last name!"
"The dorm supervisor's memory isn't that bad, right?"
"Who knows~" He leaned in mysteriously, lowering his voice as he called the others over. "I heard the dorm supervisor was caught dating a student. Now the student's parents are causing a huge scene. No one knows how much longer he'll even be working here."
"Huh?"
Ning Chu froze.
No way! That was the only pure love subplot in my story!
Sure, the age and status difference was a little questionable—but it is genuine love, okay?!
Wen Yang was stunned too. "You mean that girl who's always in the dorm supervisor's room?"
"Yeah! You've seen her too? She's actually pretty cute~"
"I thought she was a relative or something..."
As they reached the dorm building entrance, Ning Chu immediately spotted the dorm supervisor.
He didn't look happy. Sitting on a small stool by the gate, smoking a cigarette, he looked pretty defeated. Some students had clearly heard the rumors already—whispering and pointing as they passed by.
Ning Chu sighed.
And not just because of the subplot going off the rails.
The real problem was—if the dorm supervisor's love story really had ended... she was in trouble tonight.
Just last night, Wen Yang had introduced a new "game". That teasing, frustrating touch—like scratching an itch through a layer of clothes—nearly made her lose control and flip the script. If tonight came with another "punishment-induced heat" debuff... who knew what might happen?
But the worst part was, Ning Chu had never been directly involved with the dorm supervisor. She had no connection to that side story, so even if she wanted to interfere now, there was no real way to do it.
The dorm supervisor took another drag from his cigarette and glanced up, spotting Ning Chu in her full-on feminine outfit.
He blinked in surprise. Then he recognized Wen Yang standing next to her—and the very next second, he realized who Ning Chu was too.
"A perfectly good man, but insists on dressing up like a girl..."
As they passed by, Ning Chu barely caught the muttered words from the dorm supervisor.
Her mouth twitched.
Seriously?! I was just thinking of helping you!
"Insists on dressing up like a girl~" Zhang Shaoqing mocked in a singsong tone, grinning like a troll. "The dorm supervisor thinks you're a sissy!"
"Scram!"
Ning Chu kicked at him. The grinning idiot yelped and ran off.
Up the stairs they went, and at long last, they arrived at the dorm room. Ning Chu pushed open the door—
—only to be hit in the face with a wave of rank foot odor that made her go pale on the spot. She stumbled backward in horror and bumped right into Wen Yang.
Wen Yang sniffed the air—and instantly turned green.
"Holy crap! Do you guys never wash your feet?!"
Wang Jie scratched his head awkwardly. "Maybe we just let the socks pile up too much..."
"What's going on?"
Zhang Shaoqing stepped in from the balcony, totally oblivious. "Why aren't you coming in?"
"You don't smell anything?!"
"Nope?"
"Oh no..." Ning Chu groaned. "Your noses must be broken."
There were two fewer people in the dorm than usual, which apparently gave Wang Jie and Zhang Shaoqing free rein to let loose. From the hallway, the dorm looked more like a giant garbage dump—random junk, trash, cigarette butts all over the floor.
There was barely room to walk.
"This is disgusting..." Ning Chu muttered, holding her nose as she peeked inside.
"Zhang Shaoqing! Wang Jie!"
"What now?! Why are you yelling like my mom?!"
"Clean this place up—now!"
"Geez, you're more annoying than my actual mom!"
