"Yes. Even if they find you here, they won't be able to take you away."
He pulled out his phone and handed it to her.
This wasn't her phone... it was his. A tiny thrill shot through her, sharp and unexpected.
Fortunately, Rachel had a good memory. She still remembered Josephine's number. And Sister Lauren's.
So, she dialed Josephine first.
The moment Josephine answered and heard Rachel's voice, she nearly dropped her phone.
"Rachel! Oh my god, where are you? Do you know Jeffrey just took you? I've been going out of my mind! Did he hurt you? That jerk literally kidnapped you! This is, like, actual kidnapping!"
A hot wave of embarrassment crashed over Rachel. The call was on speaker. Jeffrey could hear every single word.
He shot a half-amused, half-dangerous glance toward the phone. Heart lurching, Rachel cut in before her friend could say anything else to provoke him.
