Chapter 3 - First Kills

The Breaking

"AAHHH—!"

Pain tore through me.

Not clean.

Not controlled.

Wild.

My body twisted, bones snapping in ways they weren't meant to. My vision blurred—red fading into something deeper… something older.

Gold.

A body lay beside me.

Lifeless.

Drained.

"Elijah—!" I heard my own voice break. "What is happening to me?!"

Footsteps.

Fast.

Heavy.

Elijah Mikaelson reached me first.

"Niklaus!"

Behind him—

Mikael.

Watching.

Not confused.

Not afraid.

Understanding.

"Father…" I strained, voice raw. "It hurts…"

Mikael's expression hardened.

"He is a beast."

A pause.

"An abomination."

Elijah stiffened.

"Look after your brother," Mikael said coldly. "I will speak to your mother."

Esther's Truth

The door slammed open.

Esther Mikaelson froze where she stood.

She already knew.

"Explain yourself," Mikael said.

Quiet.

Dangerous.

Silence.

"ANSWER ME!"

Esther trembled.

Not like a witch.

Like a woman.

"After Freya…" her voice broke slightly. "You changed."

Mikael didn't move.

"You were gone more than you were home. And when you were here…"

She hesitated.

"You were angry. Always angry."

Mikael's jaw tightened.

"I was afraid of you," she admitted.

The words hung in the air.

Heavy.

Unforgiving.

"And I sought comfort," she continued softly. "From someone who didn't look at me like I was… something to endure."

Mikael stepped closer.

"With a beast?" he said. "With the thing that killed our son?"

Tears fell freely now.

"I didn't plan it. I regretted it the moment it happened."

A breath.

"I still loved you."

Silence.

"I was already carrying him," she whispered.

Mikael's expression shifted.

Not softened.

But… understood.

He exhaled slowly.

"I see your reasoning."

A pause.

"But I do not forgive it."

And just like that—

The moment passed.

That night—

He slaughtered an entire pack of wolves.

And when he returned—

He made his demand.

"Bind him," Mikael said. "Suppress the wolf. Forever."

But I was already ahead of them.

The First Kill

I moved before they could act.

Speed.

Instinct.

Purpose.

Her scent led me there.

Tatia.

She woke as I entered.

Confused.

Then afraid.

"Niklaus… what are you—?"

I stepped closer.

Calm.

"This isn't personal," I said quietly.

A beat.

"But doppelgängers… complicate things."

My fangs sank into her throat.

Silence filled the room.

No scream.

No struggle.

I had already cast the spell.

Her blood filled me.

Warm.

Powerful.

Necessary.

When she fell—

I staggered.

Pain.

Real pain.

Bones shattered.

Reformed.

Burned.

I dropped to my knees—

But I didn't scream.

I endured.

Because I knew what this meant.

When it ended—

I stood.

Breathing steady.

Power humming.

Not vampire.

Not witch.

Not wolf.

Something beyond all three.

The first Tribrid.

The Attempt

They moved quickly.

Faster than before.

Mikael dragged me into the courtyard.

Forced me against wood.

"Elijah—hold him."

I looked at him.

Not begging.

Just—

"Don't."

Elijah hesitated.

"DO IT!" Mikael roared.

And he did.

Hands pinning me down.

"Help me…" I whispered.

Not to Elijah.

To someone else.

Impact.

Mikael was thrown back.

Magic cracked through the air.

Kol Mikaelson stood there—

Smirking.

"Was I late?"

I smiled faintly.

"Perfect timing."

The words left my lips—

Sharp.

Precise.

"Me ne de qual suurentaa."

Mikael's body snapped.

Neck breaking.

Esther tried to speak—

Kol silenced her instantly.

"She won't be talking," he said casually.

"Good," I replied. "Let's move."

Because Mikael…

Wouldn't stay down.

Fractures

We found the others quickly.

Rebekah didn't wait.

Her hand cracked across Elijah's face.

"How could you?" she demanded. "He is our brother!"

Elijah didn't answer.

Because there wasn't one.

Ayana's Warning

Back at the compound—

Power shifted.

Ayana stood before them.

Calm.

Certain.

"I warned you," she said.

Esther said nothing.

"You have not created immortality," Ayana continued. "You have broken balance."

Mikael stepped forward.

"They are my children."

"And now," Ayana replied, "they are something the world will answer."

A pause.

"For every predator… prey will rise."

She turned.

"You cannot win against nature."

And left.

Inevitable

I stood beneath the night sky.

Alone.

Feeling it.

The shift.

The world adjusting.

Trying to correct what we had become.

I smiled.

"Let it try."

Because this time—

I wasn't reacting.

I was shaping.

"I am not an abomination."

The wind carried the words.

"I am Klaus Mikaelson."

And now—

Everything changes.
