I blinked in confusion, unable to believe what was happening before me. I thought Layla was mad at Beowulf? But how could she switch so fast when she heard dragon meat? And if she was logical, she would realize we would have already starved to death before he comes back with the meat.
The two of them began sniffing each other, walking in circles, then Beowulf began licking her fur, and her face.
"Layla, get your head straight! Since you keep your hands to yourself, get back here!" I yelled through the mindlink, burning with fury.
She had not realized it, but she was already making things easy for the boys. Before she could protest, I mustered my remaining strength and fought for dominance.
Layla growled fiercely. "No, I don't want to take the back seat."
"Your time is out," I yelled back.
My body writhed on the ground, changing back and forth between my human form and wolf form. My claws retracted and protruded, growls and screams echoed through the air in intervals.
