Chapter 289 - Chapter 290: Awakening of the Op-Op Fruit

Under the Infinite Tsukuyomi, life energy continuously poured into Ōtsutsuki Reishiki's body. A look of ecstasy spread across his face.

"This world's life energy is overflowing… it's far stronger than anything before!"

Before becoming Ōtsutsuki Shibai's guardian, Reishiki had eaten Chakra Fruit, but the energy contained within those fruits was nothing compared to what he was absorbing now.

Even though he had only siphoned off a small portion of the energy through the Infinite Tsukuyomi, the benefits had already far exceeded his expectations.

Kaito's heart tightened. If Reishiki kept absorbing energy like this, his power would skyrocket to unimaginable heights—long before that, Gion and the others wouldn't be able to hold on.

Right now, the most urgent task was to eliminate Ōtsutsuki Reishiki and break the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

The twelve Truth-Seeking Orbs seemed to sense Kaito's anxiety. They automatically floated before him, transforming into a long spiral-shaped sword.

Kaito froze at first, then joy flashed across his face.

"This is… the Nunoboko!?"

This was a "sword of the heart"—its strength shifting with the wielder's conviction. The stronger the belief, the greater its power.

And Kaito's conviction at this moment was unshakable: kill Ōtsutsuki Reishiki.

In the anime, Obito's Nunoboko had shattered after Naruto's Talk no Jutsu broke through his defenses. But Kaito wouldn't make the same mistake.

He gripped the floating Nunoboko tightly and leveled it at Reishiki below.

"Die!!!"

The Nunoboko suddenly extended, piercing down toward Reishiki, who was still absorbing life energy.

Reishiki's expression hardened—he didn't dare take it lightly. He halted his absorption, and behind him ten black tails materialized, lashing out together to bind the incoming spear.

Buzz!

The instant they collided, waves of black ripples spread outward, casting the entire space in alternating brightness and darkness.

A purple gleam flashed through Kaito's Rinnegan as he shouted:

"More-More Power!"

The Nunoboko swelled in size, shattering the ten tails wrapped around it, then speared Reishiki straight down into the ocean below.

Kaito raised his free hand and unleashed several bolts of violet lightning at the sea.

After the bombardment, he swept his hand. The ocean split apart under an invisible force, revealing Reishiki at the seafloor.

Half of his body had been destroyed by the Nunoboko, and the rest was charred black—his appearance utterly miserable.

With such injuries, Reishiki's mind returned to clarity. Looking at his missing lower half, he cursed under his breath.

"Damn it… those fruit abilities of his are such a nuisance. A single mistake and you're caught off guard!"

The portion destroyed by the Nunoboko wasn't regenerating. For now, he could only control his upper body and fly upward.

Kaito frowned. Reishiki's undying body was truly troublesome. Against an immortal opponent, the only real option was a sealing technique.

He considered using a massive-scale Chibaku Tensei, like the Sage of Six Paths had used to seal Kaguya Ōtsutsuki.

But to seal someone of Reishiki's caliber… just how enormous would that Chibaku Tensei have to be? Would it mean pulling in all the land of the entire pirate world?

Kaito couldn't help but recall that classic line:

"What exactly have you been protecting!?"

Reishiki, meanwhile, seemed convinced Kaito had no way to finish him. He floated up to face Kaito, grinning smugly.

"What's wrong? Why stop now? Don't tell me you've run out of tricks?"

Kaito ignored the taunt, still trying to think of a way to finish him for good.

Meanwhile, the severed parts of Reishiki's body began writhing—at this rate, he'd be fully restored in moments.

Kaito couldn't allow that. In a flash, he appeared before Reishiki and slammed a punch into his face, sending him hurtling several kilometers away.

But during the flight, Reishiki's body fully regenerated. He steadied himself, gave a wicked smile, cracked his joints, and charged back in.

The two clashed again—abandoning all other powers, fighting purely with taijutsu. They battled from sky to sea and back again, their collisions ripping countless cracks through the fabric of space until it was riddled with wounds.

After yet another clash, they separated, facing each other in midair.

Reishiki couldn't help but praise,

"I didn't expect your strength to reach such heights. Among the Ōtsutsuki, you'd be considered outstanding!"

It was also Kaito's first time meeting an opponent who could push him this far. But he had no mood to enjoy the fight. If Reishiki wasn't eliminated, Gion and the others would remain trapped in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, until they were drained as his nourishment.

Glancing at the crimson sun above, Kaito grew increasingly anxious. He couldn't afford to drag this out.

To end Reishiki, he needed to separate him from the Ten Tails. Otherwise, killing him was impossible.

The only method he could think of—was the power of the Op-Op Fruit.

He focused all his Rinnegan power into the magatama representing the Op-Op Fruit. A purple ROOM expanded, enveloping both him and Reishiki.

This time, Reishiki dared not underestimate Kaito's Devil Fruit ability. He pointed a finger, firing a jet-black beam of light at him.

But before it even reached Kaito, the beam twisted off course, shooting harmlessly upward.

Reishiki tried again and again, but every attack veered away. He couldn't even graze Kaito's clothes.

Kaito, eyes shut, calmly felt the power of the Op-Op Fruit. With the Rinnegan boosting it, the fruit had fully awakened. The purple ROOM was its awakened form.

Within this ROOM, even Reishiki's Ōtsutsuki body appeared "transparent" to Kaito's eyes. He saw a mass of pitch-black energy floating inside him.

Based on his experience absorbing other Devil Fruits, Kaito deduced it was the Ten Tails within Reishiki.

He opened his eyes and yanked his hand sharply toward Reishiki.

Reishiki's heart sank. He tried to retreat out of the ROOM, but it was already too late.

A lump of black matter emerged from his abdomen, being pulled toward Kaito.

This time, true panic seized Reishiki. He clutched the black mass with both hands, trying desperately to stuff it back into his body.

But Kaito wouldn't give him the chance. A slight opening of his eyes triggered explosions across Reishiki's body. Though the blasts caused no real damage, they froze his movements for just an instant.

In that moment, Kaito pulled with all his strength—ripping the Ten Tails completely out of Reishiki's body.

Reishiki's eyes widened in shock as he let out a roar of fury.

"No!!!"
