The next morning, when Arthas awoke, Grayfia was gone.
A faint scent of Grayfia lingered. Arthas inhaled deeply, then rose.
Sirzechs was reading a newspaper in the living room, while Grayfia was busy in the kitchen, preparing breakfast.
Their interaction was normal, making Arthas wonder if last night was a bizarre dream.
But Sirzechs's words confirmed it was real.
"How was it, last night?"
Sirzechs's question almost made Arthas choke. What kind of question was that? Giving his wife away, then eagerly asking about it the next morning?
"Sirzechs-sama, are you joking? Do you think I'm charming enough to win Grayfia-san over in one night? She left with me to spite you."
"You're calling her Grayfia-san already. So close. It's a good start. Keep it up, Arthas."
Though teasing, Sirzechs showed no displeasure, as if genuinely blessing them.
"Sirzechs-sama, you don't exactly love Grayfia-san anymore, do you?"
Arthas sighed. Sirzechs nodded.
"You're right. If I still loved Grayfia deeply, I wouldn't allow this. No man would willingly give up his beloved."
"Neither Grayfia nor I love each other anymore. We thought our love would last centuries, but we were wrong. Centuries of living like strangers eroded our feelings, leaving only responsibility."
Sirzechs seemed lost, unsure of his feelings for Grayfia. Perhaps the change in his destructive power had altered not only his body but also his emotions.
"Regardless, I entrust Grayfia to you, Arthas."
"I understand."
Arthas replied solemnly. Grayfia entered with breakfast, ending their conversation.
Grayfia seemed to have been momentarily swept away by her emotions last night, giving Arthas an opportunity. During and after breakfast, she avoided eye contact with him.
Grayfia left for the Underworld, giving Arthas no chance.
Sirzechs expressed his desire to sightsee, lacking a guide, so Rias generously lent Yuuto to him for several days.
According to Yuuto, Sirzechs was surprisingly approachable. They played games at an arcade (Sirzechs wanted to open one in the Underworld), had a burger eating contest (he wanted to open a chain in the Underworld…), and even visited a shrine (he didn't want to open a shrine in the Underworld, did he?).
Meanwhile, Arthas was busy with Student Council duties. Parents' Visitation Day was approaching, requiring preparations.
Today's task: cleaning the pool, which was opening for summer. Arthas and Souna represented the Student Council, requesting assistance from the Occult Research Club.
It seemed Souna, the president, had orchestrated this, wanting to show off her swimsuit.
The sun shone brightly.
Yuuto was apparently still sightseeing with Sirzechs, leaving Arthas as the only male.
Arthas rubbed his nose, anticipating an exciting scene.
"You're late, Arthas." Souna said, displeased.
Rias approached, arms crossed, her fair skin gleaming in the sun, wearing a vibrant red swimsuit.
"How's my swimsuit?" Rias asked, showing it off, spinning.
"Nice. It suits you." Arthas complimented her generously. Another voice followed.
"Ara, ara, Arthas-kun, what do you think of my swimsuit?"
It was Akeno, in a stark white swimsuit, contrasting with Rias's red one!
"Akeno, I think black would suit you better." Arthas said, raising an eyebrow.
"Black… too bad, I didn't buy one." Akeno sighed, but mentally noted his words.
"Um… Arthas-kun, we're ready too." A shy voice. Asia stood nervously beside a composed Xenovia and Irina.
The three girls wore relatively conservative one-piece swimsuits, but they were still alluring.
"Everyone's here! Let's have some fun!" Rias cheered, suggesting a celebration after cleaning.
"Hey, Rias, ignoring me is troublesome." Souna said, pushing up her glasses, approaching slowly.
