I. In the Abyss of the Tree
Silence hung over the distorted forest where the majestic Tree of Edenfall had once stood . Now, everything was shrouded in a grayish mist, with the tree's black roots extending skyward like tentacles piercing through reality itself . The city, once a place of life and activity, now seemed lifeless , absorbing the new energy emanating from the tree, which seeped through its deep roots into the earth .
Akihiko advanced slowly, his katana "Kurai no Kiba" hanging at his side, a look of intense concentration on his face. Kaede walked beside him, her black kimono billowing gently in the breeze, her eyes taking in the emptiness that seemed to emanate from every corner of the place. With each step they took, the distortion in the air seemed to intensify, and the ground beneath them sank slightly , as if everything were being drawn in by an unknown force .
" We're bringing it closer to the core ," Kaede murmured , her voice echoing faintly in the dense atmosphere. "The void is expanding from here."
Akihiko nodded, his gaze fixed on the dark force that seemed to be forming on the horizon, where the Tree's roots plunged deep into the earth . The golden light of Edenfall's flower still shone, but something in its radiance was beginning to change. It wasn't the same radiance as before , the one that had symbolized hope . Now, that light looked twisted , as if the tree's energy was being absorbed and altered by the void.
" What if this emptiness isn't just an external force?" Akihiko asked , pausing for a moment and looking around. "What if all of this is... connected?"
Kaede looked at him with a hint of doubt in her eyes.
" Connected? What do you mean?"
Akihiko tightened his grip around his katana, feeling the distortion in the air
intensify . " It's not just the Tree. The void isn't just here; it's in all of us, can't you feel it? Like a presence that feeds on our emotions. Every doubt, every fear… every unresolved desire becomes part of this distortion. The Tree and the void are connected. They're changing us, transforming us. Everything we touch is being rewritten, including memory."
The air grew even heavier as they advanced, and Lirea suddenly appeared from the shadows, her ethereal presence illuminating the path as she floated lightly above the ground.
" Akihiko is right," Lirea said , her voice resonating softly, yet with a wisdom that seemed to come from another dimension. "The void doesn't just consume, it also shapes. It's doing more than distorting the world we know. It's weaving new realities, connecting our souls to something much greater."
Kaede frowned, watching as the Tree's roots began to twist uncontrollably.
" What does that mean?" he asked, his tone filled with concern .
Lirea closed her eyes briefly before speaking, as if sensing something deep within the void itself.
" The Tree isn't just merging the roots of the physical world. It's merging reality and memory. Those who have already lost their connection to who they were, those who don't remember their past... they are the link to this new reality that the void is creating."
II. The Frontier of the Mind
Akihiko and Kaede walked deeper into the heart of the void , feeling a growing pressure in the air. The Tree's roots rose up around them like a living cage . As they advanced, the ground seemed to become more elastic , as if the terrain itself were being altered .
Finally, they reached a central abyss , where the emptiness grew denser. In the center, the roots of the Tree intertwined in a chaotic fashion , forming a kind of bridge into the unknown.
Suddenly, the golden flower began to glow with an increasingly intense light. A feeling of terror began to grip Akihiko and Kaede , and although fear tried to overwhelm them, Lirea held them steady with her presence .
Kaede looked at Akihiko , his face etched with a mixture of determination and distrust .
" Are we ready for this?" he asked, his voice barely audible, as if each word were being swallowed by the void .
Akihiko looked up into the center of the abyss.
" I don't know if we're ready for everything we'll find. But this isn't just our fight. It's a fight for what remains of the balance," he replied, his voice tense with calm, and stepped deeper into the abyss, where the distortion became more palpable .
III. Confronting the Unknown
As Akihiko advanced, the air grew denser and the shadows seemed to move on their own. In the center of the void, the ground opened , revealing an endless emptiness . But suddenly, a figure emerged from the darkness.
It was an entity formed of distorted light ; its form flowed, it was not entirely human. Its eyes shone with a white and gold glow , and its body was composed of broken memories , fragments of recollections that faded and reassembled in the air.
" Who are you? " Akihiko asked , unsheathing his katana, but showing no fear .
The figure smiled in a way that was not human, as if its presence overflowed reality itself.
— I am what remains, what cannot be forgotten. Emptiness consumes, but it also weaves the memory of what once was. You call it 'emptiness,' but it is the space between what you know and what you have yet to understand. This is the heart of emptiness, Akihiko. And within it, your souls will be rebuilt.
The figure drew closer, and the air began to distort even more, as if reality itself were a mask about to vanish.
Akihiko braced himself, ready to face whatever came. The void was finally before him . But was the void his enemy? Or was it perhaps something else he needed to understand ? The battle was about to begin.
