"He locked you in your room?" Clara asked, disbelief thick in her voice as the car carried them farther and farther away from Eclipse, heading east. "That's insane."
Serein rested her forehead against the cold window. Outside, the city lights blurred into overlapping blocks of concrete and neon, flashing and fading like her thoughts. She didn't know if she'd made the right call. After tonight, there was no going back to Eclipse. And there was no way she could face Zane again as if nothing had happened.
"Why would he do that, Se?" Clara pressed on, refusing to let the silence swallow her question.
Zane had treated Serein well before this. He'd even mobilized an entire unit to storm Maledictus and pull her out. And now he wanted to lock her away, claim her for himself. Clara's mind spun with half-formed theories. Serein hadn't even been at Eclipse that long. Saying Zane had lost his mind over love sounded ridiculous, like a cheap melodrama.
