The plot twist was so sudden, the audience barely had time to react.
How could Togekiss, who had been suppressed just a moment ago, land a decisive blow and turn the tables?
The crowd was frozen in stunned silence.
"Phew… Leaf Pokémon, return! That was a brilliant comeback," Master Lin exhaled deeply as he retrieved his fainted Leaf Pokémon. He handed the Poké Ball to the staff, then turned to Chen Xiaoxiao, his voice filled with respect.
He couldn't help but admire Chen Xiaoxiao's sharp tactical thinking daring to commit to a high-risk, high-reward move like Air Slash, with its elevated critical hit ratio, and trusting Togekiss to capitalize on Serene Grace and battlefield positioning.
"Thank you, Togekiss. Come back and rest you did great!" Chen Xiaoxiao called back her injured partner. "Just a bit of good luck, I think," she added humbly, stroking the Poké Ball.
"In battle, luck is part of strength. No need to downplay it your Togekiss was excellent," said Master Lin with a serious nod.
Chen Xiaoxiao smiled modestly, the kind of genuine expression only a dedicated Trainer could show.
"Both sides, please send out your Pokémon!"
The referee's voice rang out, signaling the start of the next round.
"Let's go Sun Pokémon!" Chen Xiaoxiao called.
"Lilligant, I choose you!" said Master Lin firmly.

"Battle, begin!" the referee announced.
"Sun Pokémon, use Psybeam!"
In a flash, a dazzling spiral of psychedelic light burst from the gem on Sun Pokémon's forehead, surging with psychic energy.
"Lilligant, dodge and counter with Petal Blizzard!" Master Lin ordered, aware that Sun Pokémon had likely received specialized training over a long bond with its Trainer. Direct confrontation would be reckless.
Lilligant nimbly side-stepped with practiced grace clearly trained in evasive footwork and launched a flurry of razor-sharp petals. The attack exploded outward like a storm of spring snow.
BOOM!
Psybeam crashed into the arena floor, shattering rock and raising dust. At the same time, Petal Blizzard surged toward Sun Pokémon.
"Quick Attack to evade, then counter with Signal Beam!" Chen Xiaoxiao commanded.
With blinding speed, Sun Pokémon blinked out of the Petal Blizzard's path, reappearing several meters away. Then, its forehead glowed again, firing off a beam laced with insect-type energy effective against Grass-types like Lilligant.
"Protect!" Lin shouted immediately.
A shimmering barrier flashed in front of Lilligant just as Signal Beam struck it.
BOOM! The beam collided with Protect, cracking it but failing to break through.
"Now Psychic!" Chen Xiaoxiao seized the opportunity.
The jewel on Sun Pokémon's forehead radiated red, unleashing a blast of psychic force.
"The follow-up came too fast Lilligant, evade!"
Still recovering from the Protect, Lilligant managed to twist her body slightly but not enough.
THWAM! The blast connected with her side, sending her staggering with a pained cry.
"Follow up with Psyshock!" Chen Xiaoxiao shouted.
Another glint from the gem, and waves of psychic energy hardened into kinetic force, launched in a precise arc.
"Double Team!" Lin barked, his voice sharp.
Dozens of Lilligant illusions split away from the original, scattering just in time.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Psyshock blasted through over a dozen clones but the true Lilligant was still safe.
"Energy Ball, now!"
The real Lilligant, hidden among her doppelgängers, began charging radiant green energy, condensing nature's life force into an orb of destruction. She launched it toward the Sun Pokémon.
"Double Team, then Hyper Voice!" Chen Xiaoxiao countered immediately.
Sun Pokémon split into its own phalanx of clones, all scattering in different vectors. The Energy Ball struck the ground where one of them had been, exploding harmlessly.
Then came a resonant cry.
WAAAAAHHHHH!!
Hyper Voice thundered across the battlefield, the sound pressure rattling the air itself.
Lilligant's clones all vanished her real body trembled from the hit, visibly weakened.
"Quick Attack, now finish it!" Chen Xiaoxiao called, pushing the tempo.
Sun Pokémon flashed forward, faster than the eye could track.
"Lilligant, move !"
But there was no chance to dodge. Lilligant had used most of her stamina to shield and dodge there was nothing left in the tank.
SMACK!
The Quick Attack struck cleanly. Lilligant fell with a soft thud, her eyes swirled and her limbs motionless.
"Lilligant is unable to battle! The winner of the Guancheng Gym Battle is Chen Xiaoxiao of Shencheng!"
The referee's voice echoed, followed by a split second of stunned silence then thunderous applause.
"Master Lin actually lost!"
"She's incredible!"
"Best Gym match I've seen in years!"
Cheers erupted from the crowd, some still stunned by the reversal, others already rising to their feet in respect.
Master Lin retrieved Lilligant, his expression proud despite the loss. He walked over to Chen Xiaoxiao.
"Xiaoxiao… your strength is undeniable. You've earned this." From a velvet-lined box, he pulled out a deep green badge shaped like a polished leaf. "This is the Verdant Badge. Proof that you've overcome the Guancheng Gym."
"Thank you, Master Lin!" Chen Xiaoxiao said with radiant joy, taking the badge with reverence.
She opened her bracelet's storage compartment, pulled out a carved glass badge case, and carefully placed the badge inside as if it were treasure.
"Since you've come all this way, why don't we share some tea in the study?" Lin offered warmly. "You've more than earned a break."
"Thank you—I'd love that," Chen Xiaoxiao replied with a smile.
She also had a question in mind one she'd been saving.
And Gardevoir still hadn't returned. That left her just a little uneasy.
