"I will introduce myself again, my name is Phil Coulson." Coulson said from the upper walkway of the warehouse.
He kept his hands resting lightly on the metal railing and looked down at the gathered group with a smile.
"Thank you for all coming here and accepting the invitation." Coulson said.
"Alright enough with the pleasantries, let's cut to the chase. Why do you want to form this organisation and most of all how can we trust you." Jessica said. She stood with her arms crossed.
Naruto mumbled to Peter while still invisible, 'I like her. She is feisty and asks the right questions.'
"You see the Avengers, while formed with government approval, is now an independent group. We are making an organisation that will be completely under the control of the government. While the Avengers work to protect the world and deal with the big potato stuff, you all would be dealing with the small potato stuff." Coulson said.
The Avengers handled world ending threats and cosmic dangers. This new team would handle the everyday threats that still needed powered help, the kind of problems that never reached the news but still hurt ordinary people.
"Quit sweetening your words. You are just trying to form a group that could take down the Avengers if they went rogue." Jessica simply said. She did not soften the accusation.
In her mind the true reason was obvious, and she wanted Coulson to admit it rather than hide behind polite language about small potatoes and big potatoes.
Coulson smiled wryly. "That is correct. But currently we are on good terms with the Avengers and let's hope that we never go to face the Avengers because fighting a thunder god like Thor or an angry green monster like the Hulk would be very disastrous."
He did not deny Jessica's point. The possibility of the Avengers turning against the government was a real concern for the people who signed the orders, and this team was meant to be a quiet countermeasure if that day ever came. At the same time Coulson made it clear that no one wanted that fight. The power levels involved would leave cities in ruins.
"And you don't seem to say that their leader is much of a threat?" Peter suddenly asked. The young hero could not stay silent after hearing Coulson list Thor and the Hulk but skip the man who led the Avengers.
"Oh, if Kakashi turns rogue, you all would not be enough to take him out and you would be dead before you know it." Coulson simply said, sending a chill down everyone's spine.
"Anyways you can keep fighting crimes like you are doing. But now you have a team to call for backup and you might be called if there is an emergency." Coulson continued after the silence had stretched long enough.
Each person in the room already risked their lives alone. Having others who could answer a call in minutes would change the way they worked.
"And as for how you can trust us, the president himself has signed the permission to form your group. You can now fight crime and don't have to worry about being persecuted for vigilantism and the police would even help you." Coulson said.
The official paper from the highest office in the country carried real weight. For the first time the people in the warehouse would not have to look over their shoulders for police lights every time they stopped a crime.
"Anyways, let me introduce the other members of the group." He said, introducing the members to his side. Coulson gestured toward the people who stood with him on the upper walkway. One by one they stepped forward so that the heroes below could see their faces clearly.
"These are the other members." Coulson announced.
One by one everyone introduced themselves in turn. A young woman with dark hair spoke first. "Well, my superhero name is Quake, but you can call me Skye."
"Never heard of you," Jessica replied without malice, simply stating a fact. Most of the powered people in the room had operated in the public eye for some time, and a new name was always met with curiosity.
"Well, we have not become public yet. And well, I just got my powers," Skye answered honestly.
Next came a woman with a confident stance and a slight accent. "Yo-Yo Rodriguez."
"Tech specialist, Simmons," said a woman with a bright expression.
"Lincoln Campbell," a young man introduced himself.
"Agent Grant Ward," the last of Coulson's side said. He carried himself like a trained soldier.
"We are waiting for two final members and see if they accepted the invitation before moving forward," Coulson said. He glanced toward the far end of the warehouse as if expecting movement at any second.
"Well we are already here. I was just seeing if there was any weird things going on." A voice called from near the entrance. Peter saw a man in a red suit wearing a helmet suddenly appear or rather enlarge.
The figure grew from the size of a toy to full human height in the space of a heartbeat. Along with him came another person wearing a suit with wings that folded neatly against her back.
"You can call me Ant-Man," the man in the red suit said once he finished growing.
"And you can call me Wasp," the woman with the wings added. She hovered a few inches above the floor for a moment before landing lightly beside Ant-Man.
"Alright so we have a spider, a wasp and an ant. Let's hope we never have a cockroach man. Of all the creepy crawlies, I hate them the worst," Jessica said.
Luke Cage and Iron Fist mostly kept to themselves along with Peter.
"Doctor Pym accepted our proposition?" Coulson asked with a smile. He looked genuinely pleased that the two newest arrivals had chosen to join.
"Well, he gets to one up Tony Stark, Howard Stark's son. He was not going to miss this chance," the woman in the Wasp suit said.
"Good, good. Now for your first task, we have come to know that Hydra, a terrorist organisation, has sprung back up again." Coulson's voice grew more serious as he moved into the real reason for gathering everyone so quickly.
"While you are fighting at ground level, I want you all to find traces of them and eliminate them. Some of them are even high up in the society so be on the lookout for everyone," Coulson said.
