Chapter 229 - Chapter 228: Avengers meet Deadpool

Before deciding to go to another universe in a different time, Kakashi decided to inform the Avengers before leaving.

The portal opened in the middle of Avengers Tower, and Kakashi stepped through first, followed by Deadpool, who stumbled slightly before straightening his jacket as if he had entered the room exactly as planned.

"And we're back!" Deadpool announced, spreading his arms. "Nobody panic. The multiverse has been temporarily unfucked."

Kakashi glanced at him. "That's not how any of this works."

Deadpool pointed at him. "See? That's why you're the ninja and I'm the guy who explains things to the audience."

Before Kakashi could respond, several Avengers turned toward them, and Natasha was already walking over, her expression changing from curiosity to concern the moment she saw Kakashi.

"What happened? And who is this?" Natasha asked, looking directly at Kakashi.

Kakashi said, "I will explain it in short. This guy here is from some other Universe and his universe dying. There is a way to save him universe. His anchor being was killed, and I am going along with him to travel back to a point before that happened."

Natasha's eyes narrowed slightly. "We?"

Kakashi nodded. "This Guy and me." The answer immediately made her expression more serious. "You're going into another timeline?" she asked, and Kakashi gave a small nod. "Yes."

Natasha stared at him for several seconds before quietly asking, "And you don't know what you're going to face there?"

Kakashi's visible eye softened. "Not exactly." She folded her arms, clearly unhappy with the answer. "Then don't go." Kakashi smiled faintly. "You know I can't do that."

Natasha's voice became quieter as she had become familiar with the heroism that Kakashi had it in him. "I know. That's what worries me."

Deadpool stood several feet away, slowly looking between the two of them. His head moved toward Natasha, then toward Kakashi, then back toward Natasha.

"Oh, wow," he muttered. "Okay, I see what's happening here." Natasha glanced at him. "What?"

Deadpool pointed between them. "Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I'm just observing the incredibly subtle exchange of romantic tension happening approximately three feet away from me."

Kakashi sighed. "Deadpool." Deadpool held up both hands. "I'm just saying, I've seen enough movies to recognize the look. She says, 'Don't go,' you say, 'I have to,' she says, 'That's what worries me,' and suddenly there's dramatic music playing somewhere."

Tony, who had been watching from the other side of the room, smirked. "He's not entirely wrong."

Natasha shot Tony a look. "Don't encourage this lunatic which by the way we are meeting for the first time."

Deadpool immediately pointed at Tony. "See? Even Iron Man agrees with me. This is now officially canon."

Kakashi shook his head and turned toward the assembled Avengers. "I need to leave soon. The Ancient One made it clear that only Deadpool and I can cross the timelines freely. If the rest of you try to follow, you could become trapped or destabilize the branch we're entering."

Steve frowned. "Then we're staying behind?" Kakashi nodded. "For now."

Thor immediately stepped forward and declared, "I shall accompany you. No threat across the realms shall stand against the God of Thunder."

Deadpool looked at Thor, then at Kakashi, before quietly saying, "I like him."

Kakashi sighed. "You can't come." Thor looked offended. "Why?"

Deadpool answered before Kakashi could. "Because apparently the universe has a strict two-person guest policy, and you're already too majestic for the paperwork."

Thor considered that seriously. "I accept this explanation." Kakashi looked at Deadpool. "That wasn't an explanation." Deadpool shrugged. "It worked."

As the conversation continued, Deadpool suddenly noticed several unfamiliar people standing near the other side of the room.

His head slowly turned toward the first one, and he froze. A man with a visor stood beside a woman with white hair, while another man with metal claws leaned against the wall with a permanent expression of irritation.

Deadpool stared at Wolverine for several seconds before slowly pointing at him.

"No way." Wolverine's eyes narrowed. "What?" Deadpool walked closer, staring at him like he had just seen a ghost. "You're alive." Wolverine frowned. "Yeah. I tend to be."

Deadpool looked back at Kakashi, then at Wolverine again. "This is weird. This is really, really weird."

Wolverine pushed himself away from the wall. "Do I know you?" Deadpool shook his head. "Not personally. But I've seen you before."

Wolverine's expression became suspicious. "Where?" Deadpool paused. "Long story. Involving timelines, death, resurrection, and at least one terrible movie." Wolverine growled, "I don't like the sound of any of that."

Deadpool then turned toward Storm, his attention immediately shifting. "And you're Storm." Storm raised an eyebrow. "Yes."

Deadpool looked genuinely delighted. "This is amazing. I thought I'd never get to see the whole team together like this."

Cyclops frowned. "You know us?" Deadpool pointed toward him. "You shoot optic blasts." Cyclops corrected him immediately. "They're not lasers."

Deadpool nodded seriously. "Right. Right. Very important distinction. Lasers are light. Optic blasts are apparently angry eye punches."

Cyclops stared at him. "I already don't like you." Deadpool grinned. "That's okay. We just met. Give it time."

Storm covered a small smile while Wolverine simply looked annoyed. Deadpool glanced at her and whispered loudly, "He's always like this?" Storm answered calmly, "He is."

Deadpool nodded. "Excellent. Some things are apparently consistent across universes."

Natasha approached Kakashi again while everyone else continued talking. She lowered her voice so only he could hear. "How long will you be gone?"

Kakashi looked at her and admitted, "I don't know. Time doesn't work normally when you're crossing timelines."

Natasha's expression tightened. "That's not reassuring." Kakashi smiled slightly. "I'll come back." Natasha studied him for a moment before saying, "You'd better." Kakashi's eye softened, and for a moment neither of them said anything.

Deadpool happened to look over at exactly the wrong moment. He slowly turned toward Tony and whispered, "They're doing it again." Tony glanced over. "Doing what?"

Deadpool nodded toward Kakashi and Natasha. "The staring. The meaningful silence. The whole 'come back to me' thing. I'm telling you, Stark, there is something happening here."

Tony smirked. "I've noticed." Deadpool placed a hand on his shoulder. "Then you understand the importance of my role."

Tony looked confused. "What role?" Deadpool answered solemnly, "Professional third wheel."

Kakashi finally turned toward the portal forming behind him. "Ancient one has already done his preparations. It's time."

Natasha looked at him one last time, and Kakashi gave her a reassuring nod. "I'll be back."

She answered quietly, "I know." Deadpool watched the exchange, then walked beside Kakashi and lowered his voice. "So, you and Black Widow."

Kakashi didn't even look at him. "No." Deadpool blinked. "I haven't said anything yet." Kakashi replied calmly, "You were going to." Deadpool nodded. "Fair."

He stepped toward the portal and then glanced back at Natasha. "Don't worry, I'll bring your man back in one piece."

Natasha's eyebrows rose. "He's not my man." Deadpool immediately looked at Kakashi. "Ooh. Rejection arc. This is getting spicy."

Kakashi grabbed Deadpool by the shoulder and pushed him through the portal. "Goodbye, everyone." Deadpool's voice echoed from the other side as he disappeared. "Remember, if I don't come back, avenge me! Preferably with a statue! A tasteful one!"

The portal vanished, leaving the Avengers staring at the empty space where the two had disappeared. Natasha remained silent for several seconds before turning away.

Tony glanced at her and smiled knowingly, but wisely decided not to say anything. Wolverine, however, looked toward the spot where Deadpool had vanished and grunted, "That guy is insane."

Storm gave him a faint smile. "Perhaps." Cyclops adjusted his visor and muttered, "Definitely."

Thor folded his arms thoughtfully. "I believe he is also correct about the romantic tension."

Natasha immediately looked at him. "Don't start." Thor nodded solemnly. "I shall not."

A brief silence followed before Tony quietly said, "He's definitely right, though."

Natasha turned toward him with a glare, and Tony immediately looked back at his holographic display. "Not saying another word."
