Aurelia Shaw noticed a red lipstick mark on his shoulder and reached out to wipe it off for him.
Mason Nightshade turned his head, sensing something.
He glanced at her first, then saw the lipstick mark on his clothes, his face instantly darkening. Almost instinctively, he blurted out, "This lipstick mark has nothing to do with me!"
Huh?
Aurelia Shaw looked at him puzzled.
She knew it had nothing to do with him; it was from her.
But Mason Nightshade thought she didn't believe him and said in a deep voice, "Damn it! Where did this thing come from? The elevator? It's a private elevator; this kind of thing wouldn't happen. I don't know how this lipstick mark got on me either."
Was he explaining to her?
It was only then that Aurelia Shaw realized this. Her heart pounded fiercely, and when she looked at Mason Nightshade, her gaze deepened, filled with continued, complex darkness.
"Mason Nightshade, pull over to the roadside," she said in a calm voice.
