Chapter 221 - Chapter 221: Shindai's New Discovery

Shindai lay on the windowsill, staring intently at a spider on the potted plant.

Obito, Kakashi, and Rin Nohara thought Shindai must've had another brain fart—actually studying whether spiders could take off from flat ground?

How the heck could a spider fly? Even if it could, so what?!

Shindai saw the spider's tail releasing silk threads again, then flying from one leaf to another.

"It took off again!"

Obito and the other two also witnessed the spider taking off indeed.

Kakashi asked doubtfully, "So?"

Shindai pinched his chin, puzzled. "It's right there, like having something on the tip of your tongue—just out of reach. What exactly is the principle behind this?"

Obito scratched his head. "No clue what you're up to. Why don't you come with us first and check out the notice? It's about Minato-sensei becoming Hokage!"

Shindai turned to Obito, about to decline, when he noticed a few strands of hair sticking up after Obito scratched his head.

Shindai suddenly felt like he'd been struck by inspiration—he finally got it!

Shindai's face lit up with excitement. "That's it! I understand! Finally!"

Obito frowned. "Understand *what*?! Just tell us already!"

Shindai excitedly explained, "Spiders can take off using the electric field around us! Opposite charges attract while like charges repel. It's just like when you scratched your head and some strands of hair stood up—they follow the same principle!

"As long as the repulsive force between the spider and the ground exceeds gravity, the spider can use this repulsion of similar charges to fly into the sky, and releasing silk threads is the key for the spider to lift off.

"When the spider releases its silk thread, it accumulates negative charges. Finally, by means of the repulsion between the negative charge and another negative charge, the spider takes flight!"

Pakura and the others listened with dazed expressions.

What in the world was he talking about?!

Shindai became even more enthusiastic now, saying, "Although an electric field doesn't necessarily produce a magnetic field, and vice versa, changing electric fields create magnetic fields, and changing magnetic fields create electric fields.

"Constant electric or magnetic fields do not generate corresponding opposing fields. Uniformly changing ones will create steady counterparts, while periodically changing ones will produce periodic counterparts.

"In other words, by applying this principle and manipulating [Magnet Release]'s magnetic properties, I can freely fly without ever needing Iron Sand Wings!"

Obito couldn't help but be speechless. "So let me get this straight—you watched spiders fly all day, and figured out that you could fly too? What's the point of figuring that out when you could fly anyway?"

Shindai sighed. "I knew you wouldn't get it. Iron Sand Wings drain tons of chakra. But if I fly like this, I use almost no chakra at all. I'm merely altering the magnetic field, which changes the electrical charges allowing me to fly—I'm relying on external forces."

This is only the foundation. If I can make full use of my Magnet Release kekkei genkai, I'll be able to achieve many things that were once impossible. Never mind, I won't bother explaining it to you anymore. From the dumbfounded looks on your faces, I can tell you wouldn't understand a thing anyway.

I'm going to find Orochimaru-sama. He's the only one who might actually understand me. And I'll need Orochimaru-sama's backing to get the lab equipment too. This is the first time I've really realized how amazing my Magnet Release kekkei genkai is.

Shindai told Pakura, "Pakura, I won't be having lunch or dinner today. I'll come home tonight."

Pakura reminded him, "Okay, don't stay out too late."

Shindai then stepped out the door and left home.

Obito, Kakashi, and Rin Nohara looked at each other helplessly.

They didn't understand any of what Shindai had just said, but they definitely got the insult about how stupid he thought they were.

Obito and the other two followed Shindai.

"Shindai, look quickly!"

Obito excitedly pointed toward an announcement board ahead.

Shindai walked over and read the notice.

[As of today, the current Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, has resigned from his post. The Fourth Hokage shall now be Minato Namikaze. The inauguration ceremony will be held three days from now! — Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi]

After reading it, Shindai asked, "So does that mean Minato is officially the new Hokage now? Where is Minato? Come to think of it, I haven't seen him all day. He wasn't around for breakfast either."

Kakashi replied matter-of-factly, "Of course he's at the Hokage Building. There must be tons of things to handle with the transfer of power."

Shindai nodded, "That makes sense. Well then, I'm heading to see Orochimaru-sama. Want to come along?"

"You go ahead. We'll pass."

Orochimaru gave off an unsettling aura, like someone hiding dark intentions behind a calm exterior. Because of that, Obito and the others still felt somewhat uneasy around him.

"Alright then, I'll go alone."

Shindai arrived at Orochimaru's research base.

This research facility had originally been prepared by Danzo for Orochimaru. Although Orochimaru had since parted ways with Danzo, the base remained under Orochimaru's control.

"Orochimaru-sama! Orochimaru-sama! Where are you?"

Once inside the underground lab, Shindai began shouting.

When he entered, there wasn't a soul in sight—utterly deserted.

"Huh? Isn't he here?"

As Shindai was about to leave, Orochimaru appeared suddenly behind him like a ghost, scaring Shindai half to death.

Shindai patted his chest nervously. "Orochimaru-sama, please stop appearing suddenly like that! You scared me!"

Orochimaru ignored Shindai and simply stared at him silently.

In Orochimaru's gaze, Shindai sensed… hostility?

Shindai let out a forced laugh. "Orochimaru-sama… why are you staring at me like that?"

Finally, Orochimaru spoke. "Come with me."

Shindai followed Orochimaru into a lab.

The lab was a mess, and a live wire was still sparking.

Shindai blurted out, "Whoa, what happened here? Your experiment didn't go well and you flipped the table?"

Orochimaru was usually expressionless, but now a bulging vein pulsed visibly on his forehead.

"Go clean this place up."

"Huh? Why me?"

"If someone hadn't started yelling the second they walked in, this place wouldn't be such a wreck."

Orochimaru glared at Shindai with obvious hostility.

Shindai instantly understood. No wonder Orochimaru had given him a death glare from the start. He must've ruined the experiment, which was why the whole lab ended up looking like this.

Shindai instantly stood straight and promised, "It's totally no problem helping Orochimaru-sama with something little!"

He got started cleaning—though honestly, it wasn't really his thing.

Back home, ever since Pakura came around, whenever there was housework to do, he'd pull a fast one on Obito or Rin Nohara to get them to do it. Or if Kushina Uzumaki couldn't stand the mess anymore, she'd jump in and clean instead.

As for Kakashi...he never fell for any of his tricks—not even once.

Even back in Sunagakure, Shindai used to just gather all the trash into a pile and sneak it out to dump.

Now, being terrible at cleaning, Shindai was basically causing more damage than before.

Orochimaru watched as the experimental materials on the shelves crashed to the ground one after another thanks to Shindai—and his eye was already twitching nonstop.
