The medical droid went quiet. Its green-lit eyes stared at BD-4 with a hollow glow that made BD-4's metal "scalp" tingle.
⊙﹏⊙ Am I… leaking electricity or something…?
"Unregistered personnel detected. Initiating alarm system," the medical droid said. It turned out that while it had been standing there motionless, it was actually scanning BD-4.
BD-4 panicked.
No—no alarms! If it triggered an alarm, the whole plan would be ruined!
Its tiny brain spun at maximum speed. BD-4 popped a discharge electrode out from the side of its head, turned away like it couldn't bear to watch, and jabbed forward.
A bright flash exploded.
The medical droid convulsed and dropped from the air, crashing into a nearby counter. Rows of glass containers shattered with a rapid clatter, the chaotic noise making BD-4 feel like it had caused a disaster. It immediately fled toward the corner of the room.
Then it spotted a large machine set in the corner. Lines of data kept scrolling across its display. One column had frozen, no longer changing, as if an unknown error had occurred.
BD-4 brightened instantly.
So this is what I'm looking for!
This machine might be connected to the main network. BD-4 hurriedly sent a signal down to Amir.
"BD-4 sent a message," Amir said, looking at the signal on his bracer. He moved below, tracking BD-4's position until it matched a room directly overhead.
"It's so high—how do we cut through?" Pax frowned at the ceiling.
"Easy," Amir said with a grin. "Did you forget we're Jedi?"
He lifted his lightsaber with the Force and had it cut steadily through the ceiling. He placed the cut slightly offset from BD-4's signal so he wouldn't accidentally slice BD-4.
He traced the circle slowly. The round section of ceiling then dropped out on its own.
Pax's eyes went wide.
You can do that?
Amir jumped up first. Obi-Wan followed right after. Four or five meters of height was nothing for them.
But the others below could only stare. They couldn't jump that high.
"How do we get up?" Pax said, suddenly feeling helpless again.
No. 32 glanced at the two beside him, walked under the opening, loosened his legs, and performed a standing jump—springing up into the hole as well.
Pax and Din Djarin were left below in stunned silence.
Amir smiled faintly. "Just jump. I'll pull you up."
Pax facepalmed. Right. Forgot again.
Din Djarin and Pax jumped together. Obi-Wan and Amir used the Force to pull them up onto the upper level.
"This machine?" Amir saw BD-4 standing on a softly glowing unit, linked into a port and working hard at slicing. When BD-4 saw Amir, it stepped aside and beeped twice.
"Why is it so dark?" Obi-Wan activated his lightsaber again, lighting the room. He scanned the rows of cabinets lined with containers and noticed a shelf had been knocked over.
Ignoring the surroundings for the moment, Amir plugged the connector on his bracer into the port. He'd prepared a program in advance that could quickly breach most Imperial firewalls and automatically extract data.
Amir was extremely confident in this kind of work—especially against the Empire. Back at the Imperial academy, he'd used exactly this to compromise the security system and sneak into an armory.
A progress bar popped up on his bracer almost immediately. Amir smiled.
Everyone took up positions and watched the perimeter. Obi-Wan quietly cracked the door and looked outside. The corridor was empty—no anomalies.
"Once we confirm the kids' locations, we can't stay hidden," Pax said, watching the progress bar as he took the blaster rifle off his back. "The moment we start pulling them out, combat becomes inevitable. So before that happens, we need the frontal assault to draw all security forces up top."
"Ahsoka's side has some preparations this time," Pax said through clenched teeth. "We're going to give this filthy base a full purge. At minimum, we'll rip off a whole layer of it so it can't keep running experiments!"
Amir patted the huge pack behind him. "Be confident. We're not just crippling it—we're taking it off the board."
As he spoke, Amir tossed a few more puck-shaped charges around the room.
"You're right," Pax said, getting a little heated. "With this much explosive, we can wipe it out." Explosives were scarce, and this kind of compact timed charge was something the entire Resistance barely had any of. He hadn't expected Amir to have so many.
Pax reached into Amir's pack, grabbed a few, and started placing them around. He also knew how to identify load-bearing points in structures.
Not long after, Amir spoke up. "Data transfer complete!"
He saw the bracer display hit one hundred percent and unplugged.
Pax hurried back, pulled out a computer, linked it to Amir's bracer, received the data, and began reviewing it.
After transferring the files, Amir plugged back into the machine and started operating again. Stealing the data wasn't enough.
Pax worked quickly and pulled up a new interface—the lab's daily logs.
"Levels increase as you go up," Pax said after skimming the readout, looking up at the group. "We're on Level 2. There's one child on Level 19 for blood extraction tests. Level 10 has six undergoing routine intensity testing. The remaining eleven children are in the Level 5 storage zone, in a dormant state."
"This structure has 202 levels total," Pax continued as he shut the computer and slung it on his back. "Everything above Level 50 is clone experimentation—mass subjects, gene implantation, accelerated growth, results validation. After use, they're discarded."
He emphasized it coldly. "Those clones have no consciousness. They're just test material. They've never awakened. Ahsoka will give them peace. We do our job."
Amir nodded. "Three locations. To save time, we split into three teams. Once we get them out, we move straight back to the bottom-level sewer and fall back to the Traveler. When everyone's in position, we leave."
Everyone nodded.
"Level 19 has only one test subject," Amir said, scanning the group. Din Djarin stepped forward and nodded—he'd take it.
"Alright," Amir said. "Then Level 10 is Pax and me. No. 32, you and Obi-Wan go to Level 5 first—wake the kids from the pods. Pax and I will link up with you there afterward."
Everyone agreed.
"Then I'll notify Ahsoka," Pax said. He opened the comm and transmitted the order to begin the assault.
Far across the planet, Ahsoka and the Resistance fleet had already finished preparing. The moment Pax's signal arrived, more than a dozen ships lifted off from the plain and surged toward the target.
Veronica sat in Ahsoka's co-pilot seat, checking the status of her mechanical arm.
"Ready?" Ahsoka asked. "The effective radius is only two hundred meters. We need to push down at least fifty levels."
"Of course," Veronica said, smiling with confidence as she adjusted the pack strapped across her chest.
