Chapter 85: Reason and Heart
Toan Phuong threw off the blanket and sat up, giving Kieu Ly room to get out of bed. He muttered under his breath:
"You really are a trap girl."
"What, feeling salty?" Kieu Ly smiled teasingly.
Toan Phuong had originally planned to stay a few days, but now he was being sent back early. His parents would definitely tease him to no end. Plus, they were here to rekindle their romance, and now he'd be an awkward third wheel. But what else could he do?
After washing up and getting dressed, Kieu Ly slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked Toan Phuong to the gate.
Standing at the entrance of the dormitory, Toan Phuong lingered, as if hoping for something more. Kieu Ly said:
"Go on, I need to get to class now."
Still unwilling to leave, Toan Phuong asked:
"Last time we parted, you kissed me. How about a goodbye kiss this time?"
Kieu Ly burst out laughing and shook her head:
"No way. I'm afraid you'll come collecting debts again."
Toan Phuong remembered how he had forcefully kissed her before and felt a pang of guilt. So this time, when Kieu Ly declined, he didn't press. Either way, this trip had been worth it. He'd gotten a real, mutual kiss—and even spent the night with her.
Just then, a taxi pulled up. Toan Phuong climbed in and waved goodbye:
"See you at Foreign Trade University."
Kieu Ly nodded and waved back.
Watching the taxi disappear into the distance, Kieu Ly felt a little guilty. He had flown 9,000 km just to see her, and she didn't even spare him a day to go out and have fun. But every time she was near him, she felt swept up in emotion—like she couldn't control herself. After what had happened with Hoang Anh, she was afraid of things that moved too fast, afraid of uncertain choices.
When someone gets hurt, there are usually two paths: one, they become reckless and careless; two, they shut themselves off.
Kieu Ly had clearly taken the second path.
Besides, she felt someone like Dang Bang Anh was much more suited to her. Their values and life circumstances matched better. Reason told her that—but her heart… her heart kept getting shaken to the core by that pesky kid.
She chuckled to herself. She really was acting like a trap girl—avoiding commitment, yet stringing him along with vague affection.
Kieu Ly stood there watching until the taxi was completely out of sight, then hurried to class. That afternoon, she still needed to go to the library—to return Dang Bang Anh's coat.
