The grand plaza of Orario was packed with citizens, their faces turned upward toward the raised platform where Damien stood. Banners of the Eternal Hearth Alliance fluttered in the breeze, and the afternoon sun cast a golden glow over the assembled masses. The air was thick with anticipation, with hope, with the promise of something new.
Before Damien stood the six heroes who had returned from their battles against the Monarchs. Their forms were battered, their clothes still bearing the marks of combat, but their eyes burned with triumph. Alcy's massive sword rested against her shoulder. Igris stood silent and still, his crimson cape billowing. Finn's spear gleamed with residual golden light. Ais's wind wings had yet to fully fade. Ottar's massive frame was covered in fresh scars. And Vritra's golden eyes held the ancient wisdom of ages.
Damien stepped forward, his voice carrying across the plaza, amplified by magic and the sheer force of his presence.
"I am proud of you all." His gaze swept across the six. "You did well. You proved to everyone that Orario is not a city that relies only on its gods and king. Rather, it is its own people...born and bred here....who become legends."
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle.
"That is why today, I am naming all six of you as the leaders of my armies. My own personal Generals."
A murmur rippled through the crowd. The six heroes straightened, their expressions shifting from exhaustion to something else...pride, determination, a sense of purpose renewed.
Damien continued, his voice warm with genuine appreciation. "Each of you here has your own specialty and area of expertise. I wish to exploit all of that. You are unique, charismatic, powerful, and loyal. To me, no one is more worthy than you."
He turned to Alcy first.
The demigoddess stood tall, her wild red hair framing her face, her massive sword planted beside her. Damien approached her, a golden pin in his hand....a lion's head, its mane spreading like flames.
"Alcy," he said, his voice carrying across the silent plaza. "You will be the Leader of the Lion Squad. As General Heracles of Orario, the Demi-goddess of War."
He placed the pin on her chest, its golden surface gleaming in the sunlight.
"You have made me proud."
Alcy's cheeks flushed, a rare moment of vulnerability crossing her fierce features. She nodded, her voice thick with emotion. "Thank you. It is an honor. I was a mere guest, and now here I am...a part of the God King's Generals." She met his eyes. "Thank you, my Lord."
Damien moved to Igris next.
The shadow knight stood motionless, his greatsword planted before him, his helmet revealing nothing of his thoughts. Damien held a pin in his hand...a black wolf, its jaws open in a silent howl.
"My loyal shadow, Igris," Damien said. "You will be the Leader of the Shadow Wolves Squad. As General Igris of Orario, Marshal of Shadows."
He placed the pin on Igris's chest, and the shadow knight knelt without hesitation. His voice, when it came, was deep and resonant.
"It is an honor, my Liege."
He spoke no more than necessary. His loyalty was proven by actions, not words.
Damien turned to Finn.
The Pallum general stood with his spear planted beside him, his golden-white eyes gleaming with quiet pride. He had grown in stature and in spirit, his transformation into the Knight of Fianna evident in every line of his form.
"Finn," Damien said, his voice warm with affection. "My good friend. You have proven that race means nothing in war. You will be the Leader of the Knight Squad. As General Finn of Orario, Knight of Fianna."
He placed a white pin on Finn's chest...the image of a Pallum holding a spear, its tip raised toward the sky.
Finn's voice was steady, but his eyes betrayed the depth of his emotion. "It is a great honor, my King. To be known as a Knight of Fianna and your general."
Damien moved to Ais.
His heart swelled as he looked at her...her golden hair, her soft smile, the quiet strength that radiated from her very being. He stepped close, leaning in to kiss her forehead. The crowd murmured with approval.
"My love. My Ais," he said, his voice softer now, meant only for her. "You will be the Leader of the Tempest Squad. As General Ais of Orario, The Fairy War Princess."
He placed a green pin on her chest....the image of a tempest, with fairy wings spreading from its back.
Ais's smile was small but genuine. "Thank you, Damien.... I love you."
Damien turned to Ottar.
The massive boaz towered over him, his grey eyes steady, his scarred body bearing the marks of the battle he had won. Damien looked up at him, a brown pin in his hand....a massive bear, its claws extended.
"Ottar," Damien said. "You monster. What you have pulled off is legendary. For that, you will be the Leader of the Bear Squad. As General Ottar of Orario, the Black Fang of Freya."
He placed the pin on Ottar's chest, adding Freya's name deliberately. He knew how much it would mean to the boaz.
Ottar knelt instantly, his voice rumbling with genuine gratitude. "I thank you for giving me more opportunities to serve Freya's Odr. I will be your warrior for life."
Finally, Damien turned to Vritra.
The ancient dragon stood apart from the others, her golden eyes gleaming with quiet wisdom. Damien approached her, a pin in his hand...a multiheaded black dragon, its forms twisting together in a symbol of ancient power.
"And Vritra," Damien said. "My new friend. You came to me in hard times, chose to serve me regardless of what others thought, and rebelled against your own race for peace. You will be the Leader of the Dragon Squad. As General Vritra of Orario, the World Devouring Dragon."
He placed the pin on her chest, its dark surface gleaming in the sunlight.
Vritra's voice was steady, but her eyes held a flicker of something ancient and deep. "I chose to serve the God King because you are more worthy than anyone else. I thank you for your trust."
Damien stepped back, his gaze sweeping across the six generals. The crowd erupted into cheers, their voices rising like a wave of sound.
"Orario is an adventuring city," Damien declared, his voice carrying across the plaza. "It will always be. But it will also be a city of peace...one that will achieve equality among races, gods, people, and genders. We will make the world a truly better place, and we will start with us!"
He raised his hand, and the crowd fell silent.
"I hereby declare that each of the six generals is allowed to pick fifty personal soldiers from any god's Familia. These fifty will be personally trained by each general, made stronger. This will not hinder your activities as adventurers." His voice grew firm. "But when the City of Orario calls... you will answer it. Will you not?"
The crowd roared in unison. Happy. Joyful. Seeing their city truly growing, showing unity. A general of each race, demonstrating how united they were.
Damien smiled, his eyes gleaming with the fire of a new era.
"People of Orario, celebrate today! And prepare to celebrate more! This is not the only time. I will appoint the greatest people in each area of expertise." His voice echoed across the plaza. "Your God King does not recognize any race or gender. I recognize merits! Only I am more superior....the rest of you are truly equal and will only be appointed if you truly believe to be the best of the best!"
He spread his arms wide.
"So I declare it here today: celebrate! And tomorrow, place your files and achievements at the King's Office. We will look into each of your claims and appoint everyone to an appropriate job. No one in my city will stay jobless, poor, or helpless. You are all useful."
The crowd grew wilder, their cheers reaching a fever pitch. This was something they all desired...a city that supported everyone, not just adventurers. Damien would change that for them.
And they believed in him.
