"So what do we have?" Damien asked, settling into his chair as Loki and Freya took their seats across from him. The office was cluttered with stacks of papers.....applications, requests, proposals from every corner of Orario.
Loki gestured at the mountain of documents with a tired wave. "We have... a LOT of applications. You practically promised all of Orario work. This is going to be a lot of work."
"It is, yes." Damien nodded, his expression thoughtful. "But we can work on it together. We'll first establish our ministries and use the Hearth Alliance for that."
Loki leaned forward. "Yes, I thought of that too. How are we appointing them?"
Damien straightened, his voice taking on the tone of a man who had already thought this through. "Well, here is my plan. Let's start with you two."
He turned to Loki first. "Loki, I suggest you become the Minister of Adventurers & Dungeon Affairs. Your work will be related to adventurers, expeditions, dungeon research, and exploration. You're basically the leader of Old Orario."
Loki nodded, a grin spreading across her face. "Familiar territory. I can do that."
"Hey, don't forget you're also my Prime Minister. I don't have one yet, so you'll be doing both." Damien smiled apologetically. "Sorry for the workload, but you're just that good."
Loki's grin softened into something genuine. "I'm okay with it. I'm the one who guided you to this king stuff, so I'll take responsibility."
Damien turned to Freya. "Sorry, Freya, but I'm thinking you too will end up with a lot of work. I'm assigning you as the Minister of Intelligence & Internal Security. Your Familia is just powerful enough to do that. You'll be our city's police and also our intelligence networks....espionage, investigations, special operations." He paused. "I'd advise you even hire Ganesha or use him somehow. They are the best at this stuff too....But that's not it."
Freya's golden eyes gleamed with interest. "More work, eh? What else?"
Damien leaned back. "I'll take responsibility for War & Defense. After all, the generals already report to me. But I'll still take your help in this, Freya. Hate to admit it, but I'm not experienced in large warfare like you are. So whenever the need for military, generals, city defense, or strategic planning arises, I'll refer to you as well."
Freya inclined her head. "I understand. I can help with that. I don't mind. If anything, this feels like less work than what Loki has gotten."
Loki scoffed. "Okay, what about the others? What do you have in mind?"
Damien counted on his fingers. "Let's see. Hestia will be the Minister of Public Welfare & Social Affairs. She'll be good for things like poverty relief, housing, orphanages, and basic welfare."
He continued. "Hephaestus is kind of obvious. She'll be our Minister of Industry & Engineering. She's the best choice for smithing, weapons, armor, machinery, and infrastructure."
"Next up, I'm thinking of Demeter as our Minister of Agriculture & Food. She already has experience in this, and she'll handle our kingdom's farming, livestock, food supply, and agricultural development much better than anyone else."
"Next up, the Minister of Commerce & Finance..." He paused, considering. "I think Miach will do good here. I mean, he's not exactly the best, but you've been teaching him for a while, right, Loki? I think he can handle trade, medicine-related commerce, markets, and economic administration quite well."
Loki nodded. "Yeah, he'll be good. He's also the most trustworthy to handle treasury and things like that. The man doesn't even spend on himself." She chuckled.
"Good." Damien moved on. "Aphrodite will be good as the Minister of Culture & Diplomacy. I think she can handle arts, entertainment, diplomacy, public culture, and social relations."
He paused, thinking of the next name. "Then there's Takemikazuchi. I think he can team up with the School District and be our Minister of Education & Martial Arts. He'll handle work with schools, combat academies, physical education, and martial training."
Finally, he looked at the two goddesses. "And of course, Ouranos. I want him out of his bubble. I want people to know he's working with us. So I'm assigning him as the Minister of Religion, Law & Civic Order, giving him responsibility over law, justice, temples, civic ethics, and dungeon-related religious institutions."
Loki laughed. "Ouranos... working. That will be nice to see."
Freya raised an eyebrow. "You sure he'll agree?"
"Oh, he will." Damien's grin was confident. "That old man must be bored doing nothing all the time. He doesn't even manage the Guild. Let him do something for once."
Loki shook her head, a note of awe in her voice. "Hearing you speak about Ouranos like that... is crazy."
Damien's shrugged, then his expression grew serious. "Okay, what about the other thing? The so-called deserters."
Loki's smile faded. "Oh, them... well, they aren't much. They're about twenty to thirty gods, led by Dian Cecht. They disapprove of making a mortal a God King and have chosen to desert Orario and defect."
"Obviously we allowed them, just like you asked." Freya's voice was cold. "If it were up to me, I'd kill them then and there."
"And that's why it's not up to you." Damien's voice was firm. "People are free to do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't harm my kingdom."
Loki frowned. "Not that these guys are going to be doing any good. If anything, I bet they'll join Antares."
Damien nodded slowly. "Oh? Doesn't he hate all gods?"
"Yes, but what do we know about gods, Loki?" Damien's voice carried a note of bitter wisdom. "Arrogant and full of themselves. They'll probably go join him and think to themselves that he'll spare them. Or even that they'll turn on him and betray him. Both scenarios will end with their demise."
Loki's expression shifted to something more contemplative. "What about the rumors? Do you think those are true?"
"I don't think—I know they're true. Zeus and Hera are that cunning," Loki said.
Damien leaned forward. "You're talking about the Alliance of Gods being formed outside Orario?"
"Yeah, that. When Zeus and Hera left Orario, they were not happy, and they vowed to come back." Loki's voice was grim. "I bet it's true. We've also all seen Alcy—she's powerful and great. Thankfully, she isn't influenced by her father. But what if Zeus has an army of Alcy's that are loyal to him?"
Damien considered this. "Hmm. That would be troublesome. But I wouldn't worry about that too much. Zeus, Hera... and even Odin and the others know what sort of threat is in the dungeon. They won't hinder our progress there. They also fear and know Antares's power." He paused. "I think they'll bide their time and strike while we're weak."
He rose from his chair, his presence filling the room. "But I won't allow it. I'll start my expedition to the dungeon soon and end these power feuds."
Freya's eyes widened. "Oh? Who are you taking? The generals?"
"No." Damien shook his head. "This one will be different. It will be just me. Alone."
Loki shot to her feet. "Wait, what? You've just been instated as our God King. You can't just go on a dangerous expedition solo."
"I won't. This expedition will be special." Damien's smile was calm, reassuring. "I'll be teleporting back and forth. I can't teleport others, but myself? It will be like I've never left. Morning conquering the dungeon, night ruling and sorting papers with my favorite girls."
Loki hesitated, then slowly sat back down. "I see... well, still, you need to be careful. I know you've been working on trying to get Orario to stand on its own feet without you. But if something happens to you, morale will plummet to zero." Her voice grew soft. "No matter what, you are the lynchpin between Heaven and Earth."
Damien nodded, his expression softening. "I know. I'm working with that in mind."
He looked down at the stacks of papers, then back up at the two goddesses.
"Well... let's get to sorting these out, shall we?"
