He sat alone on the throne, like a statue forged in eternity. But now, the cold expression that had remained unchanged for millennia finally flickered.
His eyes—once calm and deep like the stars—now shimmered with a brilliance that couldn't be described. Countless stories seemed to ripple behind them, like waves in a cosmic sea.
And at the corners of his eyes… a faint glimmer. Was it sorrow? Longing? Or hope?
His gaze pierced through the layers of mist surrounding the citadel and landed upon Odin's family.
In that instant, his vision blurred. He thought he saw fragments of his past—a younger version of himself, and the family he had loved and lost.
Odin, Frigga, Thor—all of them saw him too.
Loki, the God of Stories.
Sitting upon the throne of destiny, burdened with cosmic responsibility. And bound by the very timelines he protected.
Their hearts clenched with pain and awe.
"…Child," Queen Frigga was the first to speak, her voice trembling with emotion. She took a tentative step forward, her eyes locked on Loki like a mother reunited with her long-lost child.
She approached, expression aching, and reached out to touch the glowing threads of timeline that wrapped around him like ethereal chains.
But Loki shook his head gently.
"Don't… Mother. I'm fine. This is my duty—my burden."
His voice was weak, yet resolute.
He was the God of Stories now. Guardian of the multiverse. He could not run. He could not rest.
Frigga's heart ached, but she understood. She lowered her hand and instead embraced him, carefully avoiding the threads. Her tears flowed silently, soaking into his robes.
Thor stood behind her, fists clenched, his expression burning with anger and helplessness.
"These damn things—how do we get rid of them?" he roared, stepping forward, determination blazing.
But Odin stopped him with a quiet shake of the head.
They all knew. These weren't chains that could be broken with brute force. These were the sacred bonds of narrative, responsibility, consequence.
Loki, the God of Stories, bore them so others didn't have to.
And then—Loki met Loki.
His gaze turned to the other version of himself. The one who had not yet ascended. The one still grappling with confusion and uncertainty.
"Long time no see, Mother… Father… Thor."
"No matter which universe you're in, you're always this reckless," he said, eyes flicking to Thor with a trace of fond amusement.
Then he fixed his gaze on his other self.
"And you… you seem lost."
His words were quiet, but his eyes radiated galaxies. As if they could see through time itself.
"As for the solution… I don't know. I only know that something terrible is coming."
"That's why I asked Alex Ray to protect the multiverse."
There was a weight in his tone. Even a god had limits.
"You've become a god, haven't you?" Thor snapped, unable to believe it. "Isn't this your job?"
"If you can't handle it, I'll do it. I'll kill whoever it is."
He raised Mjolnir.
Loki didn't flinch.
He just smiled.
"If only it were that simple."
"Who's the threat, child?" Frigga asked, her voice thick with concern.
"Kang," Loki replied grimly. "And the other variants he leads. Evil, powerful versions from across timelines."
"Technically, the Kang I'm referring to is from my original universe. But if he wins—your multiverse will vanish. Erased and folded into one… Sacred Timeline."
"If that happens, your world will be the first to go. And time itself will become their playground."
His voice was firm. Every word carried the weight of countless dying realities.
"I gave up my freedom so the multiverse could have its own."
"Kang…" Thor snarled. "Tell me where he is. I'll go kill him right now."
"You can't," Loki said bluntly. "You're no match for him."
"Don't worry. I've entrusted this mission to Alex Ray."
"I believe he's capable."
"I need you, Thor, to help him."
Loki's tone was not one of command—but of desperate hope.
Because Alex wasn't ordinary.
He had done what few could—stepped halfway into the demigod realm in mere days.
Thor said nothing. Deep down, he knew it was true.
Alex Ray was stronger.
But that truth stung.
The younger Loki clenched his fists. Why?
Why could Alex do what they could not?
Why wasn't he the one being trusted?
Was he really so weak, even in the eyes of a divine version of himself?
Odin observed Alex quietly. He'd known from the beginning that Alex was no ordinary mortal. But for Loki, the God of Stories, to trust him so deeply?
There had to be more to him. Secrets that not even Odin could see.
And then, suddenly—a realization sparked in Odin's mind.
A choice.
A decision with cosmic consequences.
He took a deep breath and stepped forward, voice ringing with divine authority.
"Asgard will fully support Alex Ray."
"We thank him for all he's done. For us, and for the multiverse."
Everyone turned to him—Thor, Frigga, both Lokis.
And Odin's next words left them stunned.
"I have an announcement to make," he said, turning to Loki the god. "I hope, Lord Loki, you will serve as witness."
Loki nodded, his expression unreadable.
Frigga and Thor exchanged glances, tension rippling between them.
Alex, standing silently off to the side, narrowed his eyes.
What the hell is this old king planning now?
But Odin wasn't done.
He walked to Alex slowly, his every step echoing like thunder across the timeless void.
Then he stopped, squared his shoulders, and declared:
"Under the witness of Loki, the God of Stories, and in recognition of the immense contributions and sacrifice made by Lord Alex Ray, I hereby appoint him—Regent of Asgard."
The words hit like lightning.
Even Thor took a step back, eyes wide in disbelief.
Alex blinked, momentarily stunned.
A title like that…
Regent of Asgard.
In Asgardian tradition, the regent ruled with full kingly authority in the absence—or incapacity—of the true monarch.
But Odin wasn't finished.
"If, in the future, Thor fails in his duties, Lord Alex shall have the right to remove him from power."
"And from this moment onward, all of Asgard shall offer him unconditional assistance. Whenever he calls, we shall answer."
Odin looked Alex dead in the eyes.
"Well, Lord Ray? Do you accept?"
