"Boom!"
An explosion sounded as countless massive Stone Edges erupted from the ground, rapidly spreading toward Ace and his team.
"Here they come! Be careful!"
Seeing Groudon's Stone Edge attack, Wallace immediately shouted to Ace. Intelligence from Wattson and the others confirmed that the two ancient Pokémon had officially entered battle mode.
"Roar!"
Tyranitar charged forward, standing in front of the Stone Edge attack. It violently raised a hand, and as a sandstorm swirled, an identical Stone Edge attack of its own surged forward to clash with Groudon's.
However, the size difference was incomparable. Tyranitar's Stone Edge was instantly crushed, only managing to slow the attack for a few seconds.
"Genesect!"
Ace roared toward Genesect. A Drive was slotted into Genesect's body. The next moment, intense heat spread as a Techno Blast roared out. The immense force caused Genesect to drag two deep gouges in the ground until Blissey reached out and braced Genesect, finally stopping its recoil.
"Boom!"
The Techno Blast and the Stone Edge attack collided. The scorching heat instantly melted the sharp stones. Dripping, viscous lava fell into the water, instantly kicking up a massive amount of steam.
In a flash, white fog spread, instantly obscuring the vision of Wallace and the others.
When the steam cleared, Wallace and Winona saw that Ace, standing on the head of the Tao Dragon, had already charged between the two behemoths, Groudon and Kyogre.
The Tao Dragon raised its arms. Fusion Flare and Fusion Bolt struck Groudon and Kyogre respectively, forcing both Pokémon to retreat.
"You damned bastard! How dare you interrupt a sacred duel!"
The tattooed lines on the bodies of the corrupted Maxie and Archie erupted with bright light. Massive accumulated power rapidly surged into the bodies of Groudon and Kyogre. The men's vitality and mental state began to slowly wane.
Conversely, Groudon and Kyogre became more vigorous. The negative effects caused by their prolonged slumber were being shed little by little, and the two Pokémon were slowly returning to their peak.
"We can't let them keep this up! We must force those two people away first!"
Wallace roared at Ace: "Attack those two people first!"
"That's easy for you to say! Why don't you try it yourself?"
Ace snapped back at Wallace during a momentary pause: "It's easy to talk when you're not the one fighting!"
"..."
Wallace was helpless. He looked back at Winona.
Winona's expression was resolute. She looked at Wallace and said, "I'll lend you my Altaria. Go."
"Thank you."
Wallace felt a surge of elation when Winona finally put aside her prejudices.
The next moment, Wallace leaped onto Winona's Altaria. Altaria immediately took off with Wallace, rapidly charging toward Ace's position.
Upon reaching the airspace, Wallace suddenly raised his hand. A Luvdisc shot out and immediately fired a Water Gun at Groudon.
Groudon saw Wallace interfering. It abruptly opened its mouth, and a blast of flame instantly shot toward Wallace.
The Water Gun was instantly evaporated the moment it collided with the flame, which then continued its trajectory toward Wallace unabated.
"Don't get in the way!"
Seeing the danger, Ace yelled. The Tao Dragon suddenly blocked in front of Wallace, crossing its arms to defend against Groudon's Flamethrower.
As the flame dissipated, Wallace clearly saw that the Tao Dragon' arms were scorched black. He frowned and said, "The power is getting stronger! They are continuously gaining power!"
Ace's expression was grim, but he inwardly sneered.
They are using the moments when I'm dealing with Groudon and Kyogre to absorb as much power as possible, helping them return to their peak.
This is exactly why I intervened now—to stop them.
If the plot had developed normally, Ruby and Sapphire would have exploded with power. By using a small fragment of the Grand Meteorite Sapphire obtained from Mt. Chimney to amplify their attack, they would have instantly destroyed the collected energy of Maxie and Archie, thereby weakening Groudon and Kyogre.
"Your Pokémon aren't strong enough to withstand these attacks. Leave this to me."
Ace told Wallace. Simultaneously, Blissey, standing on the shore, fired a Heal Pulse. The scorching on the Tao Dragon' arms flaked off, revealing their original color.
"Don't underestimate me."
Wallace laughed upon hearing Ace's words: "Don't forget where this is. I was the one who was once the Champion! Come on out!"
Accompanied by Wallace's roar, a Milotic was the first to leap out of the water.
Following closely were a host of Water-type Pokémon—easily over twenty of them!
"Hydro Pump!"
The multitude of Water-type Pokémon opened their mouths simultaneously. Numerous Hydro Pumps merged in mid-air, forming a single colossal water cannon that violently slammed into Groudon, driving it back several steps.
"Keep attacking! Don't stop!"
Wallace yelled. The Water-type Pokémon immediately began to attack again.
"You've got some skills."
Ace said to Wallace, but he inwardly frowned. This unexpected variable was annoying him.
However, Ace quickly found a countermeasure.
As the Hydro Pump attacked Groudon again, Kyogre swung its tail, broke free from the Tao Dragon' restraint, and charged forward, taking the full brunt of the Hydro Pump attack in Groudon's place.
Wallace was momentarily stunned by this sight.
But the next moment, Groudon and Kyogre were battling each other again, and the slight doubt in Wallace's mind quickly vanished.
"Ace, hold back Kyogre! I'll focus my fire on suppressing Groudon first!"
Wallace told Ace, hoping Ace and the Tao Dragon would restrain Kyogre and separate the battlefields.
"Alright, but watch out for yourself."
Ace did not refuse. He commanded the Tao Dragon to once again separate Groudon and Kyogre, putting all its effort into restraining Kyogre and leaving Groudon to Wallace.
Seeing this, Wallace immediately took Ace's place, leading the multitude of Water-type Pokémon to block Groudon.
"Groudon, fall back! This is no place for you to run wild!"
Wallace shouted at Groudon, then violently waved his hand. The massive, combined Hydro Pump charged violently toward Groudon.
The Hydro Pump successfully struck Groudon, forcing it to stagger back repeatedly.
Groudon instantly closed its eyes, using Rest to immediately recover the damage it had sustained.
Seeing this, Wallace immediately yelled: "Now! Focus fire!"
The multitude of Water-type Pokémon began to attack again, but the moment they attacked, Groudon opened its eyes.
No one noticed the faint spark of intelligence that flashed within Groudon's eyes at that very moment!
