Honestly, Lugia going berserk wasn't anything new—it had happened in the anime too.
According to the movie's plot, some obsessed collector with a flying fortress tried to capture the Guardian of the Seas, Lugia, to add it to his "private collection." Naturally, that set off a chain of world-ending events.
To Haru, the guy was basically a more unhinged, high-tech version of Goh—both of them saw Pokémon as shiny trophies to hoard, not living beings. The only difference was that Goh just threw Poké Balls, while this collector used cutting-edge machines to forcefully capture his targets. Different methods, same deranged mindset.
But unlike Goh, the collector wasn't after just one Pokémon. Goh's ultimate goal was catching Mew, while the collector wanted everything. He went after the Gods of Thunder, Fire, and Ice—Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno—and finally, Lugia itself.
According to that movie, if those Legendary Birds went wild, the world would be doomed. Though, Haru figured that was probably just cinematic exaggeration.
In the grand scheme of things, Lugia wasn't exactly the strongest among the legendaries. Destroying the world would be a little out of her league. There were at least a handful of other first-tier Legendaries who could clean up that mess—starting with the omnipotent Arceus, of course.
As for the three Legendary Birds… Haru doubted they could even take on the Tapu quartet from Alola.
Still, Lugia had appeared in the main series too. That one was, predictably, Team Rocket's fault again.
The one trying to capture Lugia was a scientist named Dr. Namba, one of Team Rocket's more eccentric members. He set his sights on a mother Lugia and her child. The baby was called Silver, though the mother's name was never revealed.
At first, Namba was after the little one—but through a series of misfires, he ended up capturing the adult Lugia instead. Nobody ever figured out where the father went, but the whole episode at least proved that even some "gods" have families—or at least species relations.
Only a few Legendaries are truly one-of-a-kind. Dialga and Palkia, for example—the gods of Time and Space—were said to be directly created by Arceus himself. No family trees there.
Unfortunately, even beings that powerful couldn't escape human greed. From Lugia, to the time-space duo, all the way to Terapagos from Generation IX, every one of them had, at some point, been manipulated or hunted by humans.
Granted, Terapagos got off easy compared to its predecessors. Still, there were always idiots who thought they could just chuck a Master Ball and call it a day...
Even now, Haru still couldn't figure out which version of Lugia this was.
If it came from the Power of One incident, the location didn't really match. But if this was the mother Lugia from the anime—searching for her lost child—then…
Could Dr. Namba still be lurking somewhere on this island, hiding among the wreckage of all those Team Rocket grunts Haru had flattened earlier?
Experience had already taught him that the anime could only be a loose guide; reality didn't always follow the same script. So if Namba actually showed up here, it wouldn't even surprise him anymore.
Either way, the priority right now was to calm the enraged Lugia down.
Sure, her power over the sea wasn't on Kyogre's level, but her tsunamis could still wipe out an entire island. Legendary power wasn't something to take lightly—it wasn't like that time in the anime when a Suicune got caught in a net.
And by now, plenty of people had noticed what was happening. Hard not to, given the commotion.
A lot of folks in Alto Mare recognized the Pokémon instantly—Lugia, the divine counterpart to Ho-Oh. And when they saw her thrashing, eyes blazing with fury, a cold shiver ran down their spines.
In the presence of a god like that, everyone could feel it—the raw, suffocating weight of death in the air.
"It's Lugia—we're doomed!"
"Wasn't Alto Mare supposed to be protected by the Soul Dew and the Eon Pokémon? Why is this happening?"
"Why the hell is Lugia attacking us?! Who ticked it off?!"
The sight of a Legendary had half the crowd frozen in despair. The earlier tsunami hadn't directly hit the island, but what if Lugia unleashed another one? Or two? How long could Alto Mare possibly hold out?
The more they thought about it, the deeper that dread sank in. Their only hope now lay in the city's ancient legend—the Soul Dew and the Pokémon said to guard it.
If the Soul Dew truly kept Alto Mare from sinking beneath the waves, then now was the time for that miracle to appear.
And it wasn't just the civilians. Up in the grand cathedral, Kanon and her grandfather had immediately thought of the same thing.
With the Soul Dew and Alto Mare's defensive systems, maybe—just maybe—they could have stopped that tidal wave.
But the problem was… the Soul Dew had been stolen. And it still hadn't been recovered.
Without it, they couldn't activate the defenses. All they could do now was brace for the end and watch destruction close in.
This—this was true despair.
For the first time, the citizens' grief turned to hatred. They cursed the thief who had stolen the Soul Dew, the one responsible for bringing Alto Mare to ruin.
Yet in the middle of that hopeless scene, people could see one man still standing against Lugia.
That man was Haru.
Facing the raging white guardian of the sea, he issued his first command.
"Mewtwo—fire off Shadow Ball, rapid succession!"
Sure, Mewtwo's specialty was Psychic attacks, but there was no time for that now. Lugia's dual Psychic/Flying typing made her resistant to psychic energy, but Ghost-type moves could still pack a punch.
Besides, Mewtwo had to leave the Psychic Terrain-enhanced ground to meet Lugia midair, which meant losing that power boost anyway.
That's the weakness of terrain effects—they only help Pokémon touching the ground. The moment you take flight, it's gone. Weather effects, though? They hit everything.
Whether you fly or swim, weather rules the field. And among those effects, nothing surpasses Desolate Land, Primordial Sea, or Delta Stream—the holy trinity of T0-tier abilities.
Even as Mewtwo closed the distance, firing Shadow Balls at point-blank range, Lugia dodged with impossible grace—her Extreme Speed slicing through the air like lightning. Then came the counterattack: a burst of violent cyclones, ripping through the sky toward Mewtwo.
A bird in its element—against a human creation—was an unfair fight. Lugia ruled the air over the ocean; Mewtwo could only adapt.
If she wanted to land a hit, Mewtwo would need a marksman's precision—like a Hawkeye-level sniper—or the firepower of a railgun.
Unfortunately, she had neither.
This Mewtwo's style was "hit hard, hit fast, hit everything." Her raw strength could flatten most Pokémon—or even some lesser legendaries—but fine-tuned control? Not her forte.
Maybe Haru could help her with that… after some "one-on-one power training," perhaps.
"Gyaaaah!"
Sensing the threat hidden in those Shadow Balls, Lugia shrieked—a piercing cry that rattled the sky.
Even knowing how dangerous Mewtwo was, she didn't back down. If anything, it enraged her further.
This creature—this thing—dared to side with humans? Worse, it had taken on a human shape to please them?
That wasn't just betrayal. That was sacrilege.
Lugia's fury spiked. With a sweep of her massive wings, the ocean heaved—two colossal walls of water, each over fifty meters high, rose from the sea like liquid mountains. The very air thickened under the force, pressing down on everything around.
Lugia's plan was clear: force Mewtwo to break formation and save the city. Once distracted, Lugia could strike directly.
A ruthless but clever strategy.
Though, honestly, "God of the Sea" didn't quite fit her—"God of Storms" was closer to the truth. Her signature move, Aeroblast, wasn't about the ocean but about manipulating the winds themselves. The tsunamis she caused came from sheer atmospheric violence.
The moment she appeared, Haru could feel that swirling vortex closing in.
But was he really going to let those walls of water hit Alto Mare?
Of course not.
Just as the storm peaked, a brilliant beam of light lanced through the air—cutting the water walls clean through, like a sniper's bullet straight to the heart.
The "God of the Sea's" offensive was neutralized in an instant.
After all, Haru didn't just have Mewtwo on his side. While Mewtwo kept Lugia busy, Haru had already called in back-up—Diantha's Eternatus, hiding within an Ultra Wormhole, waiting for his signal.
When Lugia made her move, Haru made his.
"Laser Beam, now!"
Eternatus's energy lance tore the waves apart, vaporizing the threat before it could reach the shore.
The crowd erupted in collective relief. The city wasn't safe yet, but at least their death sentence had been postponed.
They just wanted to live.
Mewtwo didn't waste the opportunity. The moment Lugia turned her focus toward the island, Mewtwo unleashed another Shadow Ball—this time perfectly timed, landing square on target.
Mega Evolution had pushed her power to absurd levels. Even a non-STAB Shadow Ball hit like a meteor.
But to her surprise, the impact only made Lugia stagger in midair—no crash, no serious damage.
Haru wasn't shocked.
From the feel of it, this Lugia had her Hidden Ability: Multiscale. As long as her health was full, all incoming damage was reduced. That explained a lot.
Still, her next move caught him off guard.
Lugia was diving—straight for him.
She'd realized who was calling the shots.
"Dad, watch out!" Mew No. 2—cried out, panic flashing across her face. For all her earlier sass, the moment Haru was in danger, her composure shattered.
She tried to intercept, but Lugia was too fast—boosted by tailwinds and the storm she commanded. There was no stopping her charge in time.
"No! Damn it, Lugia—I'll kill you!"
In desperation, Mew No. 2 flung her arms forward in a pose straight out of a melodrama, pure panic in her voice.
But she was worrying for nothing.
Lugia might have been a powerhouse, but harming Haru was easier said than done.
And besides…
Was she charging at him? Or… offering herself as a ride?
If it's the latter—hell yes, he's taking that ride.
As the massive white form closed in, that thought flashed through Haru's mind—and before anyone could blink, he pulled a vine-crafted bridle seemingly from nowhere.
Then, with help from Mew No. 2 and Eternatus, he leapt—landing perfectly on Lugia's back as she shot skyward.
"What the—WHAT?!"
Everyone below froze in disbelief.
Was he riding a Legendary?
You don't just hop on a god's back like you're taming a wild Rapidash!
Even Cynthia, who'd seen her fair share of miracles, could only gape.
As for Goh—still nursing his bruises—his eyes burned with jealous fury. He silently prayed for gravity to do its job and send Haru plummeting.
But Haru rode with perfect balance, laughing into the sea wind as Lugia twisted and dove, trying to throw him off.
Infuriating. Absolutely infuriating.
The Sea Guardian's patience snapped. She'd had enough.
Fine, she'd drag him down to the depths and let him drown. Humans couldn't breathe underwater. Once she dove, he was finished.
Except… he wasn't.
The deeper she went, the more Haru laughed—utterly unfazed by pressure or lack of oxygen, moving as freely as ever.
This wasn't a man anymore. This was a damn Ultra Beast.
Even Lugia, proud and divine as she was, couldn't help thinking that.
But what truly broke her composure was what Haru said the moment they resurfaced—shivering slightly from the cold.
"Damn, this water's freezing… kinda makes me wanna pee."
"?!"
Lugia's mind went blank.
Wait—did he mean he was about to pee on her back?!
