"A surfboard!" Ash couldn't help but say. He hadn't tried it yet and wasn't sure if it would work, but there shouldn't be any major problems. Pikachu didn't need a large one, so he made a smaller one first.
"A surfboard? Ash, aren't you supposed to be training Pokémon? Why do you suddenly want to practice surfing for no reason?" Misty asked, somewhat confused by Ash's words. Ash usually took his training very seriously.
"This is our next training project!" Ash didn't look up, continuing to shave the surfboard. Hearing Ash's response, Misty became even more bewildered. She looked at Brock, but Brock merely shook his head slightly, not knowing what Ash meant by "training" having anything to do with a surfboard.
"Alright, Pikachu, let's go!" A moment later, after finishing the surfboard, Ash immediately called out to Pikachu.
Pika!! Pikachu responded, then followed Ash, bringing the surfboard to the beach. Ash found a spot to change into his swim trunks, then he and Pikachu entered the water. Although the weather wasn't cold, the seawater was still a bit chilly, and Pikachu shivered all over when it first got in.
"To learn to surf, you must first learn how to ride the waves." Since Ash himself didn't have much experience, he actually wasn't sure about the principle. The Surf move, besides allowing Pokémon to ride waves, could also summon waves on land.
Although it wouldn't have the same power on land as in water, it did summon waves. Water-type Pokémon could understand this, but he didn't know how Pikachu should do it. Actually, this wasn't an exaggeration. Not just Pikachu, even Ground-type Rhydon could learn the Surf move.
Ash could only figure out the trick by himself. Perhaps this was an innate power within Pokémon, that even if the attributes didn't match, as long as the conditions were met, they could still learn unexpected moves.
He figured that learning to summon waves on land for surfing would be more difficult, so Ash decided to start with the basics, first teaching Pikachu how to surf like a normal human, letting it understand how to ride the waves first.
Pika Pika!! Pikachu responded seriously to Ash's words, full of fighting spirit and enthusiasm.
"Good, let's go!" Ash, seeing Pikachu's determined expression, immediately responded and then led Pikachu towards deeper waters.
"Teaching Pikachu to surf? Did I hear that right?" Misty, standing on the beach, couldn't help but say. To Misty, this was as novel as teaching a Water-type Pokémon an Electric-type move. But in fact, many Water-type Pokémon could also learn Electric-type moves.
"He probably heard correctly." Brock shook his head slightly. He certainly hadn't misheard. Although he wasn't sure, and despite being a Pokémon breeder who understood Pokémon fairly well, he had never heard of Pikachu being able to learn Surf. But he might argue with others, but if it was Ash, he decided to temporarily reserve his opinion and thoughts.
Boom boom splash splash!!! While the two were still wondering, waves were already rising on the shore. Ash quickly taught Pikachu some basic surfing techniques.
After coming to this world, Ash knew he would face many unexpected situations in the future, so he basically learned skills like swimming, surfing, and even skiing. In fact, Pallet Town itself was near the sea, so learning this skill was relatively easy.
Rising with the waves, Ash and Pikachu lay on the surfboard, using their hands to paddle the seawater. Pikachu tried paddling with its hands quickly for the first time, but its movements were a bit too wild, causing it to lose balance directly when a wave came.
"No, no, your movements just now were too fast and too tense. You should start gradually and slowly speed up, relaxing your body to maintain balance!" Pikachu hadn't gotten up yet, so Ash naturally stopped too. He and Pikachu were directly hit by the wave. Ash emerged from the seawater, shook his hair off his head, then spoke sternly to the nearby Pikachu.
Pika Pika!! Pikachu listened to Ash's words and nodded seriously.
"Good, try again!!" Seeing Pikachu's response, Ash spoke again, trying once more. But it still wasn't easy. They made mistakes several times in a row. After about half an hour, Pikachu had somewhat learned to start. But each time it stood up, it would still lose its balance and fall into the water.
Each time, Ash would dive into the water to bring it up. This was a test not only for Pikachu but also for Ash's own stamina. However, each time Ash would still point out Pikachu's flaws and start over.
With continuous attempts, neither side complained. Unconsciously, an entire morning passed. Pikachu had no problem from paddling to standing up. But each time a wave came, it struggled a bit to control its body.
Pikachu's feet were relatively short. When controlling the surfboard, it couldn't be as flexible as human feet. This was very normal. Pikachu's body structure was inherently suited for forward dashes, so it would take some time to get used to such movements.
"Ash! It's almost lunchtime." Just as he was about to start again with Pikachu, he suddenly heard a voice from the shore. Misty was waving towards them. Brock must have gone back to cook already. Ash then realized it was already noon.
Looking at the shore, Charmander and the others looked very tired. They had barely stopped all morning. Even Pokémon were a bit exhausted, and Pikachu was the same.
And his own hands and feet were all wrinkled from being in the water. He glanced at the Pokémon. Although it was a rush, Ash didn't train them to the point of risking their lives. That wouldn't be good for the Pokémon either.
"Let's rest first!" Ash said to Pikachu. He then put away the surfboard and took Pikachu to the shore, drying himself and Pikachu.
"Everyone, let's go back and rest first! We'll continue this afternoon." He said to the Pokémon. The Pokémon, though tired, responded happily. Although training was indeed exhausting, the Pokémon saw that Ash was also training with them, so they were all tireless.
