Chapter 84 - Chapter 82

Marie's POV

The drive to Don Mateo's house felt longer than it really was. Mancini didn't say much, and I didn't dare to. I was uncomfortable in the dress. It was a little too tight, and I didn't like that it was Mancini who picked it out.

When we finally reached the gates, I understood why people called it the palace of the Genovese. The mansion looked like it could swallow ten of Mancini's estates. The gates were tall, made of dark iron. Armed guards stood on each side, more than Mancini had in front of his own house. 

Even Mancini whistled. "Now that's a house," he muttered. "No wonder the old man thinks he runs the city."

We had come in two cars. Lionel and two of Mancini's men had taken the first car and took the lead. I didn't see any reason Mancini would bring his own men because even if he brought all his men, they wouldn't stand against Mateo's men. But of course, Mancini liked to feel important.
