Lucien didn't miss the tightness in Rin's jaw, the way his eyes didn't hold even a hint of playfulness. The moment he saw that expression, all the teasing that had been sitting on his tongue died.
"Sure, let's head in."
He nodded silently and placed a hand on the small of Rin's back, guiding him into the room and shutting the door behind them.
Still in his armour, Lucien opened his arms with a half-smile.
"Alright," he said lightly. "What made my sweetheart look like this? You look like you're about to tell me the world is ending."
He was joking, completely unaware that Rin was about to tell him something close to that.
Rin pressed his back against the door, fingers curling around the edge of his cloak. His breathing felt too loud in the quiet room. He swallowed hard.
"...Lucien," he said quietly.
Lucien tilted his head. "Hm?"
"The demons are advancing."
Lucien didn't react at first. He simply crossed one arm over his chest and nodded, almost casually.
