Lady Mirielle stormed across the garden with quick, irritated steps, her gown sweeping angrily behind her like a flame. Evan hadn't even turned fully when she wrapped her hands around his arm, clinging tight.
"Why didn't you teach me how to throw?" she demanded, her voice rising higher than usual. "And now you've taken all the slaves away because of that boy... because of Rin!"
Evan's face didn't shift much, but the hint of annoyance flickered in his eyes. He gently removed her hands from his arm as if peeling off wet fabric.
"Don't you have a tea party to attend?" he asked calmly.
Mirielle stiffened. "Are you sending me away so you can spend more time with him? Is that it?"
Evan's smile came slowly, relaxed.
"My son is the one who is going to marry Rin. Not me."
Her mouth fell open. "Then why do you keep looking at him that way?"
Evan gave a small grin that made her chest tighten with irritation.
"What's wrong with looking at my future son-in-law?"
