Chapter 125 - Chapter 127 Morning

"Clark, I want to take the Tesseract with me."After returning to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, Thor approached Clark with his request.

Perhaps it was because he knew that Nick Fury intended to use the Tesseract to develop weapons, Thor felt that leaving the cube on Earth might no longer be appropriate.

Thor didn't know what could happen if people on Earth succeeded in developing space-penetrating technology like the portal device. After all, Earth was still too weak. If it connected to any powerful and aggressive civilization, Earth could face an even more dangerous situation than now.

In addition, Thor also knew that there were people eyeing the Tesseract greedily. He believed that if the cube was left on Earth again, the one who had previously spied on it would definitely not give up. Thor believed only Asgard could safeguard the Tesseract properly.

"I have no objection. In fact, I think it's better if you take the Tesseract with you. But I think you should still negotiate with that bald egghead first. Officially, the Tesseract belongs to him now."Clark fully supported Thor's decision. After all, if Thor didn't take the Tesseract away, there would now be an Infinity Stone left on Earth.

Though Clark felt that as long as Odin was still alive, Thanos wouldn't invade Earth anytime soon, it was always best to be cautious. He wasn't ready to face Thanos so soon.

Clark had previously wielded the Tesseract's energy himself, so now, to him, it was just a prettier cube.

"If you agree, that's great."Thor truly valued Clark's opinion—partly because they were friends, and partly because he wasn't sure if he could beat Clark in a fight. If Clark had objected, things might've gotten tricky.

"Welcome back, heroes!"As Clark and the others entered the conference room, they were greeted by Nick Fury, who stood at the head of a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in formation.

"How's Loki?"Thor asked immediately upon seeing Nick Fury.

Because he had gone with Thor to eat Turkish kebab earlier, Clark and the others hadn't returned with Coulson. So once they got back, Thor quickly inquired about Loki's condition.

"He's fine. Maybe he couldn't get out of the handcuffs, so right now, he's doing just fine."Fury said as he pressed a button. A nearby screen flickered on, displaying live footage of Loki.

Even though Loki had previously escaped the specialized prison cell, an organization as large as S.H.I.E.L.D. obviously wouldn't rely on just one containment unit. While the current cell lacked the features of the original, Fury believed that with vibranium handcuffs, Loki shouldn't be a problem… right?

Truthfully, Fury wasn't so sure about that either. So this time, he assigned a team to monitor Loki 24/7, making sure that at least two pairs of eyes were watching his every move at all times.

He didn't want to win a war just to lose because of a careless mistake—like Loki escaping and opening another portal in the sky.

As for his command over S.H.I.E.L.D., that had been restored automatically after Clark had stopped two nuclear warheads. In the eyes of the top brass, Clark was now clearly aligned with Fury.

"That's good to know. I won't be staying on this Helicarrier tonight—I'm heading home. If anything comes up, call me."Clark knew that after defeating the Chitauri, the story arc of Avengers 1 had basically concluded.

No more surprises tonight. So why not go home? It was far more comfortable than staying here.

After saying this to Fury, Clark turned to Diana."Diana, are you coming with me or staying here?"

"I'll go back too. I need a shower and a good rest."

"Then let's head out."After saying goodbye to everyone, Clark and Diana made their way to the deck. Diana reached out with both hands, and Clark simply smiled before wrapping his arms around her slender waist. With a slight bend of his knees, he leapt into the air.

"Clark, do you really think it's okay to hand the Tesseract over to Thor?"Diana suddenly asked mid-flight.

It was Diana's first time dealing with Thor, so she didn't know him well.

But Thor was still Loki's brother—and considering Loki had just orchestrated an alien invasion of Earth, Diana naturally had concerns.

"Well, technically, the Tesseract was originally placed on Earth by Thor's father. So returning it to Thor is really just giving it back to its rightful owner.

Thor didn't take the cube for power. His real intention was to protect Earth. Though the Chitauri were strong, they were just pawns of a larger force behind the scenes.

Even if we've defeated these alien soldiers, as long as the cube remains on Earth, their master will keep coming.

So handing it over to Thor is actually a good thing…"

As they spoke, Clark carried Diana back to the suburban house in New York that Tony had given him.

The Next Morning

Clark and Diana were having breakfast when Clark suddenly heard someone coming in. Moments later, he saw his parents hurrying through the door.

"Clark, thank goodness you're okay!"

Mary hugged Clark tightly as soon as she saw him.

Truth be told, she had been worried ever since seeing the news about the alien invasion in New York. Though the reports never mentioned the Avengers or Superman by name, Mary still feared Clark might be involved or hurt.

Their calls hadn't gone through—likely due to the damage in New York. So the couple canceled their vacation plans and came rushing back.

They had been vacationing in Hawaii, and despite their urgency, they couldn't reach New York until this morning.

Along the way, they saw that Manhattan was still under lockdown. If they'd been ordinary civilians, they probably wouldn't have gotten through.

Thankfully, Jonathan Kent's position as police commissioner gave them access. Though honestly, they hadn't planned to go home at first. After getting some intel from fellow officers, they made their way straight to Clark.

Seeing their son safe and sound, both parents finally breathed a sigh of relief. The news had mentioned an alien invasion, but not Clark's involvement, so they had rushed back in the dark.

"Clark, who is she?"

After letting go of Clark, Mary finally noticed Diana sitting at the table eating breakfast. Her elegant appearance, calm demeanor, and the fact that she was here this early in the morning told Mary all she needed to know.

Clearly, Diana had spent the night.

Mary's eyes lit up with a confident and motherly smile.
