Clark's sudden interjection caught Coulson off guard—he hadn't even gotten to that part yet. How did Clark know what he was about to say?
But Coulson didn't press it. He simply nodded and confirmed, "Yes, a creature did escape. We found a cracked monster egg at the site—and the break was from the inside out."
Hearing that, Clark became increasingly certain: his Godzilla might really be the same one from the 2014 movie.
"Then I think I might know where that creature is."
"Uh... where?" Coulson asked.
"Japan. Based on what you just told me, I think I understand now," Clark replied. "From my observation, Godzilla has what you might call a natural nuclear fusion reactor inside his body. That's where he gets his energy. As long as that reactor isn't extinguished, no matter how badly he's injured, he just needs rest to recover.
And if, as you say, a monster killed Godzilla and laid eggs inside his body, then that creature's goal was probably the nuclear reactor itself. But at the time, Godzilla might not have been entirely dead yet. Because if the reactor shuts down at death, the creature laying the egg wouldn't get any energy.
So I suspect... Godzilla realized he was dying, and used his remaining energy to give birth to an heir. That heir... is most likely the Godzilla I captured."
"Why Japan, though?" asked Ward, who hadn't known about the escaped creature until now.
"Because my Godzilla was registered in Japan," Clark explained. "There must be a reason. Something in Japan is drawing these monsters. And if I had to guess, the creature that emerged from inside Godzilla is the one that's now active there."
As Clark spoke, he felt a twinge of doubt—after all, everything he was saying was based on a movie from his past life, not real evidence. But since they'd asked, he had to answer.
Coulson nodded. "You're right. That's exactly what the director told me. After Godzilla died, the creature that killed it left his body. But because Godzilla had spent much of his energy on his offspring, the parasite didn't absorb enough radiation to grow properly. So now it's seeking more energy."
"And Japan, being near the Philippines, became the most convenient option."
"So... the monster is still absorbing radiation in Japan?" May asked, her brow furrowed.
Coulson nodded. "Yes. It's currently in Janjira City."
"If the higher-ups know the creature is in Janjira, why not just eliminate it?" asked Fitz.
"Because it's been feeding off nuclear plants," Coulson replied. "If they kill it, the radiation stored in its body might be unleashed all at once, creating a catastrophic fallout."
"At the very least, Japan won't agree to an attack on its soil."
Clark frowned. "Then what exactly do you people want to do?"
To him, this was all absurd. Monsters this dangerous… and they were just watching? He remembered how, in the movie, the military dropped a nuclear bomb on Godzilla—and even that didn't kill him. Yet now they were worried about hurting one of these creatures?
No—Clark guessed that some governments weren't afraid of the consequences. They just wanted to study the monsters, to harness them. And that scared him more.
The world was evolving too fast. Back in World War II, someone like Captain America could dominate the battlefield. But now, any random villain might be physically stronger than Steve Rogers—like Tony's future enemies, or this radiation-consuming beast from Japan.
"We need your help," Coulson said. "We want to relocate the creature to an uninhabited region. The Director believes we can't wait any longer—our calculations suggest the creature's hatch date is within the next two years. If it keeps growing... the consequences could be devastating."
Coulson hadn't wanted to ask Clark, but S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't control the creature—Monarch (Emperor Program) did. Director Nick Fury, after observing Clark's Godzilla's rapid evolution, realized these monsters grow too fast. If another one appeared, not even Clark might be able to stop it.
And after the Chitauri invasion, Fury didn't want to risk any more unknown threats on Earth.
"Alright. When do we leave?" Clark asked without hesitation. He owed Coulson a few favors anyway.
"If you're available, we'd like to go now. The mission begins tonight, and I'll request backup from HQ," Coulson said, relieved and grateful.
"I'll call Diana."
Meanwhile, deep beneath Lake Centri, the sleeping Godzilla opened its eyes as if sensing something. It frowned, confused about why it had awakened... then closed its eyes again and returned to sleep.
Elsewhere, at Tripod Base, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Deputy Director approached Nick Fury, who was reviewing the construction of several massive space carriers.
"Director, if you let Coulson work with Clark to bring down the dome, the Emperor Program will never acknowledge it officially."
Fury didn't even look up. "Doesn't matter. They've been comfortable for too long. They've forgotten just how dangerous these monsters are. Godzilla isn't even afraid of our strongest weapons anymore. What kind of creature do you think could kill Godzilla?"
"All they care about is what they can extract from these monsters. But no one is asking the real question: If they break free... is this world still ours?"
