Because this was a covert operation, Coulson brought Clark back to Tri-Wing Base and switched to a Quinjet. After all, tonight's mission wasn't officially sanctioned—it was more of a private initiative. Compared to Coulson's Airbus, the stealth-capable Quinjet was far better suited for this kind of mission.
After the 1999 nuclear incident, the Japanese government evacuated Janjira Town, later surrounding it with containment fences. Officially, it was to keep people out of the radiation zone. In reality, it was to prevent anyone from discovering the secrets buried in that abandoned town.
"We're here," Coulson said as the Quinjet arrived over Janjira around 9 PM.
Thanks to its cloaking tech, none of the ground-based surveillance at the nearby military base around the nuclear plant could detect the jet.
Gazing down at the deserted cityscape, Coulson turned and said, "Everyone, suit up. We're landing soon."
He handed Clark a radiation suit, but Clark waved it off.
There was no need. Unless something went horribly wrong, not even a nuclear bomb could harm him, let alone background radiation. Besides, Clark had a theory: if he remembered correctly, the 1999 reactor meltdown wasn't due to a failure, but rather because of a creature—MUTO—that absorbed all the radiation.
"Let's measure the radiation levels first," Clark suggested. "I doubt it's above the human safety threshold."
Coulson looked at Fitz, who nodded and grabbed a scanner before stepping out of the Quinjet.
"Whew…" Fitz exhaled as he exited the jet. The moment he did, the readings on his handheld device dropped from 0006 to 0000.
He hesitated for a second, then removed his face shield. His exposed skin felt no irritation whatsoever. In fact, the air outside felt fresh—like a forest.
"Coulson, there's no radiation out here," Fitz confirmed.
Hearing that, Coulson immediately took off his own helmet. Ward followed suit.
"Fitz, head back. Stay with Simmons and May on the plane," Coulson instructed.
Fitz and Simmons weren't combatants. Coulson never intended for them to take part in the fight, especially since intel from the Emperor Project indicated the creature—though appearing dormant in an egg—was extremely dangerous. In 1999, it had destroyed a nuclear plant and faked a meltdown.
Even with Clark here, Coulson wasn't confident he could protect everyone if the situation went south.
"No need to overcomplicate things," Clark said. "Just get ready to evacuate the base personnel. I'll try to lure the creature away to somewhere isolated and finish it there."
"Clark, be careful," Coulson warned. "This thing's been absorbing nuclear energy for over a decade."
"I know." Clark nodded, then looked toward the giant, hook-shaped cocoon in the distance.
He didn't know for sure if MUTO was stronger than his own Godzilla. Sure, Godzilla was growing rapidly, but MUTO had a head start. Still, Clark had a trump card—his solar flare transformation.
After giving Coulson one last look, Clark launched into the air, flying straight toward the cocoon.
BOOM!
Not long after Clark left, Coulson and the others saw a golden beam of light descend over the military base, followed by a massive explosion.
"Whoa!" the team flinched as the ground shook.
Then came a strange, insect-like screech—not loud, but filled with rage and pain.
Clark had reached the cocoon and decided to test whether he could kill the creature before it hatched.
He channeled 80% of his energy into a single downward punch, slamming into the cocoon from above.
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to kill the MUTO inside—just enough to dent its skull.
Compared to the creature's massive body, a one-meter dent was basically a light bruise.
Still, the impact did injure the creature—it began staggering, clearly disoriented.
Meanwhile, inside the control room, Dr. Serizawa and his team were stunned. No one could process what was happening. Just moments ago, the egg had been intact. Now, it was ruptured—and a monster was trying to emerge.
BANG!
The door burst open, and a squad of guards rushed in.
"Doctor, it's time to evacuate!" they shouted.
The sound snapped Serizawa out of his daze.
"Can someone please explain to me how Superman is here?!" Serizawa yelled, looking from the wounded MUTO to Clark flying in the sky.
Even if he didn't want to believe it, the scene was too surreal to ignore—their base had just been attacked by Superman.
"Is it because of Godzilla?" Dr. Graham, standing nearby, suddenly remembered the Godzilla Clark had taken months ago.
She speculated that this attack might be revenge—or preemptive defense—for that Godzilla.
