"Move!" Dr. Serizawa looked at both Clark and the MUTO before issuing a retreat order. Even though he was reluctant to abandon the MUTO, he knew that if a battle broke out between Clark and the creature, they were standing far too close to the crossfire.
"Yes, Doctor."
With Serizawa's command, the staff began packing up to evacuate. But in truth, there wasn't much to pack—most of the data had already been backed up, and they only needed to grab personal belongings and a few portable instruments.
Amid the chaos in the base, Ward, who had just parked the Quinjet nearby, looked at Coulson and asked:
"Are we really still heading in there?"
From their position, they could clearly see the creature wreaking havoc—a fifty-meter-tall giant that looked like a monstrous cockroach.
"We're going to the command room," Coulson replied. "The Director believes the Emperor Project has more than one monster under wraps, but this one's the most visible. Oh, and try using this."
Coulson handed Ward a high-tech-looking pistol.
"A freeze gun? Are you kidding me? We're going into the heart of monster territory and you're handing me a glorified tranquilizer?" Ward protested.
"Doesn't matter," Coulson said with a shrug. "Your bullets wouldn't pierce its skin either way."
Coulson shoved the freeze gun into Ward's hands.
"Let's go."
Ward sighed as he holstered the freeze gun.
"Fine. You're probably right."
The two of them headed off toward the Emperor Project's command center.
Meanwhile, in the crater—
"Damn, that thing is tough!"
Clark frowned. His punch had done little damage. He recalled scenes from the movie—he knew MUTOs had high durability. They had withstood prolonged combat with Godzilla without sustaining serious injuries.
In fact, one of them had only been taken down after Godzilla blasted atomic breath straight into its mouth, frying its internal organs.
But even so, Clark didn't expect that a not-yet-fully-grown MUTO could already withstand his power. It wasn't invincible, but its tough hide made it a tough nut to crack.
While Clark was still thinking, the MUTO sensed something was off.
These monsters might be huge, but that didn't mean they were stupid—they were highly intelligent. The MUTO quickly assessed the situation and realized it couldn't win against the "flying bug" in front of it.
With a roar of frustration, the MUTO turned and attempted to fly away.
But just as it tried to take off, it felt something tug at its legs—as if something was anchoring it to the ground.
That strange sensation was short-lived—a massive force suddenly yanked it back, slamming it straight into the ground.
BOOM!
The impact was devastating. Clark had used over 20 tons of strength, and the MUTO weighed more than five tons. The collision's force was akin to a 7.0 magnitude earthquake.
The sudden tremor knocked over many civilians who were in the process of evacuating. Nearby structures already weakened by Clark's aerial assault collapsed completely from the shock.
Having slammed the MUTO into the ground, Clark quickly flew over to its head.
His eyes glowed red—and twin beams of intense heat vision shot out toward one of the MUTO's eyes.
With no bone shielding, the creature's eye was instantly scorched—its cornea burned away, and moments later, the entire eyeball was seared through.
"SKREEEEE!"
The MUTO let out a high-pitched, synthesized screech of pain. It instinctively turned its head, causing Clark's heat vision to sear into the top of its skull instead.
But compared to the vulnerable eye, the thick skull was much harder to damage. Clark's heat vision only managed to carve a shallow scorch mark, no more than ten centimeters deep—insignificant for a creature whose head was ten meters thick.
Still, the destruction of one of its eyes had enraged the MUTO.
The pain triggered a violent response—it lost all control.
And now, with only one working eye, it had completely lost vision on its left side. Clark could effectively become invisible just by staying on the creature's blind side.
The partially blind, berserk MUTO began rampaging, attacking everything around it in a blind fury.
"Sigh…"
Clark sighed as he hovered overhead.
He hadn't wanted to use his solar flare mode, not this early. He remembered that there were two MUTOs—one large, one small. This one was clearly the smaller of the two.
He had been saving his trump card, just in case the larger one appeared later. But now that this MUTO was out of control and threatening innocent lives, he had no choice.
Besides, Clark had just spotted Coulson and Grant Ward sneaking into the base in the chaos.
"Fine. I'll kill you in one second."
Clark made up his mind. He began charging his energy, pushing it to the maximum output his body could currently handle—1x amplification.
Then, with a sudden flare of golden light, he activated his solar flare mode.
In that instant, the base was illuminated as if the sun had risen inside it.
A radiant, blinding miniature sun hovered in the sky, signaling the start of Clark's most powerful attack.
