Chapter 148 - Chapter 142: Humans Become Gods? The Existence of Mass-Producing Gods!

Twenty-five meters tall and weighing five tons?

If that isn't Godzilla, then what is?

Every agent stared in stunned silence.

Even Nick Fury frowned as the image played through his mind.

It was at that moment he finally understood—

just how terrifying SCP-3396 truly was.

No wonder so many organizations were willing to defy the Foundation just to fight over it.

This thing wasn't a parasite… it was a monster-making engine.

A few drops of that blue-green liquid had turned a tiny lizard into a kaiju.

So what would happen if someone injected it directly?

What about larger animals?

What if predators—lions, tigers—were infected?

The thought drained the color from Fury's face.

---

Site-17, Containment Laboratory

Leon Lake's brows furrowed slightly as the Overseer continued.

"The second trial used a male golden retriever," she said. "Four cubic centimeters of SCP-3396's liquid were injected intravenously."

Her tone remained calm, but the entire Marvel world watching the live broadcast tensed up.

"Over approximately two hours, the subject's fur fell out, replaced by irregular horn-like growths across its body."

She paused before continuing, voice level but grim.

"Vivisection revealed SCP-3396-derived tissue spread throughout the body. Dissection did not result in death. All wounds healed rapidly.

No behavioral changes were observed."

---

Stark Industries Tower

Tony Stark shot up from his chair. "Wait—what? Not bigger… but self-healing?"

Colonel Rhodes frowned. "No change in behavior? Then that dog just got super-regeneration and a tougher body."

The two men exchanged a long look, their expressions filled with disbelief.

---

S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters

The agents were speechless.

Nick Fury, however, was deep in thought.

A lizard turns into Godzilla…

A dog grows armor and heals instantly…

Then realization hit him.

"If you think about it," Fury said slowly, "the lizard gained a massive body and strength.

The dog gained defense and regeneration. Doesn't that mean this liquid might not just be harmful—"

He leaned forward, voice low but trembling with awe.

"—it might be evolutionary?"

The room fell silent.

Assistant Hill spoke first, quietly:

"And the evolutionary path seems… different for every organism."

Fury's eyes darkened.

A chilling question formed in his mind.

> "What happens if a human evolves?"

---

Leon Lake leaned back in his chair, tapping the table lightly as the Overseer continued.

She finally answered his unspoken question.

"We conducted human trials."

The livestream went dead silent.

"The subject was a twenty-eight-year-old female. We applied a small amount of SCP-3396 liquid to the skin of her forearm…"

The Overseer paused, her tone grave.

"The liquid was absorbed instantly. There were no immediate physical changes.

When asked if she felt anything unusual, the subject simply said—'I understand firepower.'"

Leon frowned.

"Firepower?"

The Overseer nodded.

"Moments later, large rotary cannons manifested from her arms. She opened fire on Foundation personnel, then breached containment."

The entire audience erupted.

> "WHAT? She summoned guns out of thin air?"

"Did she just turn into a walking weapons platform?"

"So SCP-3396 gives you superpowers?!"

The Overseer's voice remained steady as she read from the report.

"When Foundation security retaliated, her body shattered and exploded.

However, the subject herself was unharmed—she regenerated immediately.

Her shattered fragments became high-energy projectiles orbiting her body.

Thirty-seven casualties were recorded before containment could be re-established."

Her tone faded into silence.

Across the Marvel world, no one spoke for several long seconds.

Then the chat exploded again.

> "She turned into a living arsenal!"

"So SCP-3396 can give anyone powers!"

"Mass-produced superhumans?! Count me in!"

---

S.H.I.E.L.D.

The agents stared at the screen, their expressions flickering between shock and greed.

Who wouldn't want power like that?

But Nick Fury's face was thunderous.

To him, SCP-3396 reeked of one thing—chaos.

S.H.I.E.L.D. existed to maintain control, to keep balance between heroes and threats.

If this anomaly could create limitless super-powered beings…

it would end civilization as they knew it.

If it couldn't be contained, it had to be destroyed.

Now he understood why so many factions had risked everything to seize it.

---

Kamar-Taj

The Ancient One watched the footage in disbelief.

Her mastery over the mystic arts had taken centuries of discipline, sacrifice, and compromise.

She had even drawn from the Dark Dimension to maintain her power.

And yet this anomaly could hand out godlike strength in an instant.

She felt… conflicted.

Envy. Disgust. Fear.

Could humanity really handle such power?

---

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters

Professor X stared silently at the glowing screen.

SCP-3396's infection reminded him of mutants—humans born with genetic gifts.

Some considered them blessings, others curses.

He thought of Magneto, who had lost everything because of his own powers.

To think that a single anomaly could reproduce mutation so easily—it shook him to his core.

---

Stark Industries Tower

Stark folded his arms, scowling.

"Great. More mutation talk. Nothing new under the sun. Doesn't anyone believe in technology anymore?"

Rhodes chuckled. "Hey, not everyone has your wallet, Tony. You know the saying—'The poor rely on mutation; the rich rely on tech.'"

"Exactly," Tony said with mock pride. "Money is an ability, too."

But even he couldn't hide a flicker of envy.

"Still," he muttered, "I wonder if the powers it grants humans are… stable."

As if on cue, the Overseer's next words answered him.

"For our second human test," she said, "we selected a forty-two-year-old male. He was instructed to inhale vapors derived from SCP-3396."

Her tone chilled.

"At first, there were no visible effects. But after three hours…"

She hesitated, then continued slowly.

"Four identical replicas of the subject appeared in the chamber.

All five spoke simultaneously: 'Only fools mistake the blessing of magic for a curse.'

They joined hands and merged—forming a colossal humanoid entity with ten mismatched arms, a single pulsating core of flesh, and dozens of floating disembodied hands, each with an eye in its palm."

She exhaled heavily.

"Moments later, water manifested in the chamber, swirling violently around the creature.

When the containment team entered, only ordinary seawater remained.

The entity vanished. Its current whereabouts are unknown."

---

The broadcast fell silent again.

Then chaos erupted.

> "Magic? Did she just say magic?"

"How did we go from science fiction to dark fantasy in two paragraphs?!"

"Wait—so it can give people mystical powers too?"

"This is insane!"

Even the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were shaken.

One muttered, "First it's biology, now it's sorcery… What is this thing?"

Fury glared at the screen. "No. You're missing the point."

He turned to his team.

"Humans infected by SCP-3396 show physiological changes, yes—but their personalities and memories remain intact.

Some even experience enhanced cognition. That means the magic came from him—his beliefs."

Natasha frowned. "You're saying his powers reflected what he believed in?"

"Exactly," Fury said darkly. "Whatever he worshipped… shaped what he became."

He looked back at the screen.

The Overseer was already closing the folder.

"No discernible pattern has been found," she said coolly.

"The mutations induced by SCP-3396 vary wildly, but they consistently result in anomalous powers—most of them destructive."

She tapped the report against her palm.

"Because of this, containment breaches involving SCP-3396-01 instances have occurred repeatedly, despite all reinforcement efforts."
