Chapter 158 - Chapter 150: Join the Tactical Theology Department — The Supreme Divinity: Stag!

The Mobile Task Force agents finally found Leon Lake in Death Valley.

He stood quietly under the drizzle—calm, silent, and unchanged.

Across from him stood the last remaining Overseer, O5-10.

"You succeeded."

Those were her first words upon seeing him.

Rain splashed on the rocks between them. Wisps of mist curled into the air.

Leon walked toward her slowly, each step steady and deliberate.

His eyes—dark and fathomless, like an abyss that could swallow the light—were as calm as ever.

No one could sense any fluctuation from him. No triumph, no pride, not even exhaustion.

"Your heroism will never be made public," O5-10 said, her expression unreadable.

Yet something in her tone suggested that she saw something… different about him now.

Still, according to the Foundation's readings—his baseline value and Hume index—Leon was as normal as any human could be.

"I didn't do this for fame or recognition," Leon replied quietly.

O5-10 nodded slightly. "I know. But even so, we'll have to keep you under observation for several years. During that time, your work with SCP-999 will continue, but…"

She hesitated for a brief moment. "You'll be given a new assignment."

Though she said the word sorry, there was no trace of remorse in her eyes.

The Overseers—the highest decision-makers of the Foundation—had long lost the capacity for guilt.

---

The audience in the Marvel livestream erupted in disbelief.

> "WTF?! He saves the world, and they're gonna monitor him?"

"God, the Foundation really has no conscience!"

"No wonder Dr. Kondraki warned Leon not to lose his humanity—these Overseers are proof of why!"

"At least he still gets to keep SCP-999."

"Wait, what's the new assignment then?"

Their questions were answered almost immediately.

O5-10's voice was calm but sharp.

"You will be transferred to the Tactical Theology Department."

Leon frowned slightly.

"The staff of that department are all theologians, priests, or religious scholars… I'm an atheist."

A faint smile curved O5-10's lips. She looked at Leon as though she were examining a rare, unpolished gem.

"That's exactly why we need you," she said. "The Tactical Theology Department requires your assistance—to capture, contain, and neutralize theological anomalies."

S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters

The agents nearly fell out of their chairs.

> "Tactical… Theology Department?"

"Wait, they can capture and neutralize gods?"

Natasha Romanoff's eyes widened.

> "You're kidding me—gods can be contained?"

Nick Fury crossed his arms, frowning.

> "SCP-343 is literally 'God,' and he's still contained by the Foundation. So, yes."

Natasha rolled her eyes.

> "343 voluntarily contained himself. And what about SCP-2317—the one chained beneath the world? That wasn't exactly captured, it was inherited."

Fury opened his mouth but said nothing.

He'd wanted to bring up others—the Crimson King, the Cosmic Starfish, the Three Brothers of Death.

But he stopped himself.

Because the Foundation's stance on those entities was simple:

Not containing them is the best way to contain them.

The truth was clear—while the Foundation had methods for dealing with divine beings, their success rate was extremely limited.

So why assign Leon Lake to this department?

Fury was sure of one thing: something happened during the SCP-3396 incident—something that made the Overseers choose him.

Then, a young SHIELD agent muttered under her breath,

> "They're not… planning to train him like Dr. Clef, are they?"

Fury's eyes widened.

> "What did you just say?"

The girl froze.

> "I—I mean, isn't Dr. Clef the guy they trained to terminate Keter-class SCPs…?"

Lightning flashed across Fury's mind.

That was it.

Just like the terrified man they once found in a storm decades ago—the man who became the Foundation's most infamous executioner—Dr. Clef.

Now, they were doing it again.

Training Leon Lake not to terminate anomalies…

…but to terminate gods.

Fury exhaled slowly.

He looked back at the screen.

> Will you accept it, Leon?

---

O5-10 continued in a steady tone.

"To be clear, your position as Senior Researcher and Chief of SCP-999's research will remain intact. Your security clearance will be upgraded to Level 5."

Leon said nothing.

"You'll still be stationed at Site-17," she added. "The Tactical Theology Department will only call on you for specific missions. Your administrative authority will be raised to that of a Site Director."

Leon remained expressionless.

O5-10's eyes narrowed. "You'll have more freedom than Dr. Clef… and greater authority than Dr. Kondraki."

The Marvel audience exploded again.

> "They're desperate to keep him!"

"She's basically bribing him with unlimited clearance and power!"

"Leon Lake, the Godslayer—coming soon!"

Finally, Leon spoke.

"I want access to all containment files."

The world fell silent.

Even O5-10 froze for a moment before shaking her head firmly.

"Impossible," she said. "Not unless you join the O5 Council itself."

Leon's eyes didn't waver.

He simply looked at her—calm, unwavering, unreadable.

Under that gaze, even O5-10 felt a flicker of unease.

After a long silence, she exhaled softly and said,

"Fine. Any request you submit for containment access will go directly to my inbox. I'll grant you as much freedom as I can."

The rain continued to fall.

In that quiet moment, Leon Lake—the man who rejected godhood—took his first step toward hunting gods.
